That looked a decent route Simon. If I ever have a go, I'll walk and take 8 Kg of sandwiches as they would seem to be more useful than a bike! I did initially admire your skill in opening that first gate from your saddle but then I thought of you dismounting and walking back through the gate to pick up your camera....... the lengths you go to for some good footage.
Simon, I said it before and I'll say it again. I can listen to you speak for hours. You can dictate a piece from the most boring novel and ill be smiling with content in listening. 😊 You are a colorful character, Sir. I'm paying attention and learning a lot from your presentations. Thanks🎉
I think your niche is certainly Scotland and the trails your demonstrating for sure. I do love Scotland for adventure locations local and remote. Well done on these Simon.
As far as I am aware that canal bridge at Moy is not for public use,it’s for the farmer access across the canal - you would be better using the tunnel as per your route you were following, it’s just right beside the river loy directly opposite Glen Loy, you just look for the obvious track that heads right of from the canal towpath, if you look out for the Moy weir structure cycle past that and then take the next track on the rights after it, it takes you down to the river loy and the access tunnel it’s a fair bit along from the tunnel before you get to Moy bridge if you get to the bridge you have gone to far. There’s three tunnels under the canal - between Banavie and Moy all good access across under the canal. The bridge at Moy can often be left open depending on boat movements along the canal your not guaranteed to be able to cross it.
THREE tunnels! I discovered a couple of weeks ago that what I thought was a bridge was a tunnel. Now there are three! I'm going to have to go exploring soon John.
Always wondered if it was possible to link over to Glen Loy. I’ve been up from Fassfern a couple of times to access the hills on the north side of Glen Suileag but never further east than the Bothy. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I'd heard of them back in the day. That said, I was too busy with a career and climbing in the 80's until the moment I discovered Mountain Bikes.
Got to admire your skill and toughness there. I like a bit of off roading myself but that ride would definately be beyond me. I did enjoy watching you do it though. 😂👍
It’s a tunnel not a bridge Simon 👍🏽 better to just cycle along the tarmac from Banavie to Glen Loy then on the tarmac up Glen Loy until track end. It then becomes a boggy non visible OS track for a few miles miles until the Glensulaig Bothy. Good effort though bud. I’m in Banavie for a week from 17/9 if you fancy a buddy ride👍🏽
The funny thing ist that we can see on the Komoot Route you have done, where you have made the shootings for the camera. Back and forward and forward and back. By the way a very rough route and you have to pass the rive very safely with cycling shoes.
Hi Stephen - I often just do a re-plot of a route because of all the backwards and forwards for the camera but on this occasion I clearly didn't. Yeah, river crossings are always tricky.
At the end there you said you’d recommend ‘one of these two routes’ over the charcoal trail. Just wondering which ones? :P Im staying near Fort William for a week soon and bringing the gravel bike so been looking for good routes!
OK - if you'd like to see them on a map: www.komoot.com/collection/982369/-gravel-off-road-in-scotland Videos: th-cam.com/video/bivieT2CEqs/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/Nmul1J7l9Hg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/JBcnt0F4e0Y/w-d-xo.html A little travelling: th-cam.com/video/T0bVEyCx_js/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/VDt8v76C6-A/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/vohCL16a-kM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/_OXoRIAMR4E/w-d-xo.html Have a great trip!
The Camino is not much more really, 10.3kg and it's worth watching this video to see what included in that weight th-cam.com/video/BIusBejIR2Y/w-d-xo.html It does 'feel' heavier than the Vielo though and I can't explain why. Possibly, it's like Trigger's Broom (if you remember Only Fools and Horses) because on the Camino I've now I've replaced the bars, wheels, tyres, pedals, saddle, chain-ring and soon cassette and seat-post. For the bare frame weight, best look at the Sonder/Alpkit website. Mine is the large frame.

Sandwiches would have been better than the bike you’re right 😂
🤣love the sandwich bit 👍

That looked tough going and weather never helped. Great seeing areas never been to before. Stayed in that hotel the Moorings few years back 👍
I had expected it to be a lot easier than it turned out to be!
Brilliant thank you, always enjoy
looks fantastic
Another great video and certainly an adventurous route in the middle section. Thanks for more inspiration 👍
Comment much appreciated Graham

That looked hard, but I do like stuff like that, reminds me of the rough stuff fellowship rides did in the 70s/80s

beautifol place for walk and camping...greetings from croatia---my next destination...
Croatia is amazing! We’ve been a couple of times driving down the coast and swimming around some islands. Love it!
Gate opening skills 👌🏻
It might have required a couple of takes 😁

I learnt about the tunnel two weeks ago. Thanks for the offer but lots on right now
As always love ❤️
Thanks Seltun

Simon you have some guts to carry your cycle up on wet, slippery boulders 🙏
How much does your Titanium Camino weigh? And thanks for the PLB suggestion.
