I'm 74 years old and, without a doubt, this is one of the best versions of this old tune I've ever heard!! It amazes me that this old timey sound comes from such young musicians! Thank God they're keeping this kind of music alive!!
Im just turning 47 this year, just decided to learn banjo now, a lifelong dream, im from Australia and it has been a big American history lesson for me. I find it all fascinating.
I'm fortunate to live in Appalachia Ohio and to have seen them twice live. They're way much better in person. I was tired after watching them. Great performers.
Playing along with my banjo, see the dog come into screen, think how happy it looks to be with all its friends playing some tunes. Then i realise this video is 6 years old and that dog probably isn't with us any more. RIP dog face you look like you grew old happy.
"Little" Sadie is roaming the pickin' parties of the afterlife now. Her successor, Julia Belle, is holding down the hootenannies at Over Yonder Concerts these days.
The best part of this is around 5:50 they all start signaling to each other, ever so subtely, that this is the last refrain. Watch them all pass it on to the next.
That bass is kickin! Looks almost like the one I made many years ago. Except this one is supercharged. And the bass player keeps it simple and solid. Nice job!
Truly enjoyed your version of Cumberland Gap , I wonder if you have ever heard the version played by deceased Senator Robert Byrd ? If not you should look up his C.D. for fun and inspiration. That man was a great artist and knew many of the old tunes that I never hear anymore.
Beautiful job on one of my all-time favorites. Glad to see your dog likes good music too. Fact is, my own two dogs are sitting attentively by me right now.
Hi Maylee, thank you for the kind words! The second tune is an original of ours, called "John Bartholow's Tune". It's another D tune of ours which pairs well with Cumberland. Thanks again!
Unfortunately thanks to Hollywood, this is the authentic Sound and History of America that the World does not know. Pioneer families walking through the Gap into the Great Unknown and all its dangers and opportunities. Amazing the country they built!

If you can find them online, check out a BG band called The Powder Kegs. They did a nice job with Cumberland Gap.

Will you be performing at 2018 IBMA in Raleigh?
Unfortunately not this year!
Fine music being played but the dog's wondering why don't they pet me?
He received many pets that night :)
Who made that bass?
Nathan, our bass player made it!
It really is a lovely piece to look at.
@@wearethewayfarers he did a good job, that thing sounds awesome!
this is awesome- first time viewer! Is that a washtub bass?
No, a washtub bass uses an overturned washtub, broom handle, and a single cord or string.
Thank you! It's the progressive version of a washtub bass ;)
