happy new year. i have started my countdown to expat living and cebu looks like a great city to start with. thank you forbreaking ground for us. best wishes from winter in norway.
I have been watching Philippine expat videos for 8 months now, from here in San Francisco, California. From the hundreds of hours I have put into this, Cebu is the best location to first plant your flag. Once settled there for a year or so, you can explore other options. IMO Cebu is the best modern city in all the Philippines. As Britt alluded, traveling around the city you will feel you are in any modern U.S. or European city. Also IMO don't waste your time thinking about Manila. That city is the worst. Finally, coincidentally I had been seriously interested in the "Marco Polo Residences" (that's the name of the condo project). So with Britt showing the Hotel, I plan to fly to Cebu and stay for a week at the "Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu" to look for a condo (I need a two bedroom, two bath though, that at Marco Polo Residences fully furnished rent for about $1,000 USD). By the way, I checked the prices for the best room at the Hotel. It is $59 a night. Here in San Francisco an equivalent room would be $500 USD per night. Pack your bags!

Hello! thank you for the tour to your condo and the amenities. It's my first time to watch your channel. I too would like to experience to live in that condo someday. I would like to ask: How did you get this condo? Did you booked it from website or did you found it when you arrived in the Philippines? Do you have to pay any utilities? How much is the monthly rent if you don't mind me asking? And do you have to lease it for 1 year or short stay like 2 months is ok? Do you have to pay for parking or is it included in the rent? Thank you! Happy New Year!
@BrittMcalister excellent. The top condos in Makati business district cost you $2,400 or 125,000 pesos a month. A rediculous price for only a bit better accommodations.
@@BrittMcalister That's great... especially since you can use the amenities in the other buildings! Loving the channel so far! We'd love to see more of your day-to-day, like where you eat your typical meals (along with what's on the menus & cost), things to do / entertainment in Cebu, nightlife, your commute/traffic, and other "way of life" and "cost of living" vids (shopping, groceries, clothing, availability of western products, health care, etc). Looking forward to what's to come!
The condos at Marco Polo Residences are like all the other condo projects, each is individually owned by someone. The individual condo owner who decide to rent out his condo unit can lease it at whatever rate he can negotiate with the prospective tenant. MPR is no different than other Cebu condo complexes, everything is negotiable; e.g., I have seen owners sweeten listings by offering: free internet; fully furnished vs. semi-furnished; including new modem kitchen appliances; and the biggie, reduced rent if one signs a longer lease. Bottom line: Before signing the dotted line on that lease you have to do your due diligence. There's a lot more to it than the advertised rent and pretty photos. E.g., in hot humid Philippines air con working 24/7 is critical, especially if the condo faces the rising and setting sun. That begs the question, does the condo owner maintain the AC units; or when one fails is it like pulling teeth to get the owner to send a repairman. The AC units also need to be regularly maintained so that filters don't clog, or mold doesn't develop. Bonus Tip: Like here in the U.S., most Philippine condo complex owners retain a property manager/realtor to deal with renting their unit(s). So most likely you will be dealing with a real estate agent and/or property manager when negotiating the lease and during the term of your tenancy.
I would like to request a video demonstrating your US tax preparation process while residing in the Philippines, as it is that time of year. Do you currently maintain service with a US-based mobile provider, such as T-Mobile, that accommodates foreign travel?

The going rate is $600 per month.
@@BrittMcalister Is $600 for a 12 month rental contract Britt, or something more short term? Does it include pool, cinema, gym and other facilities? Thanks
You have a great place there for a reasonable rent
Thanks for watching.
Hey Britt, wonderful video. Just wondering if you could do a video on how you got yourself set up when you first arrived in the Philippines. Did you Airbnb it or just stay in a hotel? Thanks
That video is next.
Hi Britt, I am interested in the day pass for the pool at the hotel. I live in IT Park. Do you know if prior registration is necessary or just drop in and also is it hard to catch a taxi back to IT Park around 6 pm? Thanks Christian
Just show up.
@11:37 he said Cebu city is "Like any major city you have seen in the US" This guy is off the charts a romantic, butterflies and unicorns projective type that is completely disconnected from seeing complete pictures of my city. I have been here full time for 5 years and like it, but descriptions should be connected to at least 10% of reality.
awesome video! just subscribed to your channel. seen your tarheels hat in one of your videos. are you from North Carolina? if so Greensboro here. but will be phillipines soon
Thanks for viewing. Look me up when you're here.
Good vid Britt ! did you get yourself a gimbal yet for cam stabilization ? You've got a great place - just big enough - All the best!
Yes I have
No price?… Wow. C’mon, dude. I'm landing in Manila 03, 01, 35. Still hunting around for my official retirement city.
Mine is 25,000 pesos. You can get studios right beside mall starting at 20,000 pesos. Sorry, I'm new to TH-cam.
How long does it take to get to IT Park and Ayala Mall by public transportation, taxi, and/or your own scooter?
6 minutes - or 30 minutes - depending on traffic. There is a tough intersection halfway between the two.
8 minutes.
I live here tower 2. 8 minutes to Ayala Center by car. 6 minutes to IT. Very close.
It will be nice if you mention the rent thank you
Mines 25,000 pesos. That's $430. New prices are at $600, but they are all in the newer buildings. Always negotiate.
keep up the great work. one quick question. how much cooler is it living up on the mountain? is it noticeable? I want to move to cebu but it's just sooo darn hot. thanks.
It's a little bit cooler. North of Manila it gets down to 40°
How long to get to a nice beach from there? 😊
@Sheeeerkhan Mactan Island is only a 35 minute ride.
What's the rent? Contract length? Free utilities? Looks great
25,000 per month. 1 year lease. Everything is separate.
Hello! thank you for the tour to your condo and the amenities.
Had a realtor. I pay 25,000 pesos for rent, 5,000 pesos for parking, around 4,000 pesos for electricity, and 1300 pesos for home wifi.
Shortest term is 6 months. I have a 1 year renewable.
@@BrittMcalister Thank you so much! I appreciate your reply :)
Can you do another video on costs and price of unit
To purchase or rent?
What is their monthly or yearly condo fees for maintenance, amenities etc in addition to your monthly rent of $430?
$430 flat. No add ons. Do pay $100 for parking, $5 for water, and about $75 for electric.
If you want to give info how about starting with the PRICE!
@@rgstroud 25,000 pesos. $430 per month.
@BrittMcalister excellent. The top condos in Makati business district cost you $2,400 or 125,000 pesos a month. A rediculous price for only a bit better accommodations.
Did you negotiate the rent? When I search for condos for rent in Marco Polo, I see higher rent costs for less square meters.
I'm in the oldest building. They wanted 30,000 pesos. They said if I signed a 1 year lease they would do 25,000.
I do not have a US carrier. Skype has a plan for $40/year. It's unlimited calls. Inbound and outbound calls.
Lived here 1 year now. This will be my 1st year doing taxes living abroad.
How is cyclone season?
Haven't had any issues with weather. Other than rain during the rainy season. But the dry season is long. My 1st 6 months here there was 4 days of rain.
Where's the washer and dryer at? How many minutes to the grocery store? Thanks.
Grocery store is less than a mile away. Washer is behind the the door in the bathroom.
@@BrittMcalister Is there a dryer too? Washer/dryer combo or separate? Also, is there a balcony? Maybe I missed it. Thanks.
I just searched for where is Marco Polo Philippines. The only answer was, it’s a 5 star hotel in Manila.
@@Amen.22 It's in Cebu City. Right outside IT Park.
