This is actually helpful for someone going from a physical sim to an eSIM. I wasn’t too sure how this would work. Thank you for posting this for people with older iPhones.
Agreed! I unfortunately had to leave my 15 PM home to go to work as I had to wait 2 hours over my time for work, and I just got my screen and lens protector on, then started set up, the eSIM swap was quick! I thought I would have to be on the phone forever but it just asked if I wanted to swap sims and now it’s updating and my lovely 12 PM will hopefully be fixed (camera glass broke, needs replacement camera too I assume) and sold to someone else. This phone has done me well, I have always hated the connectivity compared to my Note 9 though. Here’s to the 15 being better!

I’m trying to transfer only contacts and pics , will transferring through iCloud only do that ? I don’t want to transfer all the apps or other things I don’t use

I get a new phone every year (it's an addiction) and I've always set up as a new phone. This makes transfer look so simple that I'm going to try it when my 15 Pro Max is delivered in a couple of weeks.

Great content. Just a heads up that if you want to return the 15 Pro and go back to an earlier phone, you can't go back if it is running 17.0.1 since the 15 Pro is on 17.0.2. Restoring won't work until they are both on the same software number 🤬

Very informative video. I was a little apprehensive about transferring an eSIM as I heard last year it was a huge mess getting it set up. I’m considering getting an iPhone 15 and now I’m more convinced it’ll be a smooth transition from my iPhone XR. Definitely have to give it to Apple moving from one iPhone to another is very simple and effective.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro from iPhone 12. Transfer went very smoothly after upgrading to iOS 17.0.2. No data loss in the transfer...even kept custom ringtone. I used the iCloud method, as with all of my previous iPhones. Only minor downside is to re-sign into some of my apps.
okay so i have the 12 pro max and it has a sim slot so im assuming its not available for esim right? but what ur saying is the icloud method works anyway? good to know!

Wouldn’t a transfer from a backup on the Mac be better on the new phone? For reference I’m currently using the iPhone 11 and when I upgraded to this phone, while using the direct transfer data it didn’t transfer everything so I had to factory reset and upload the backup from my Mac. Not sure if that’s still the same or not. I’ve got a 15 pro on order so I was wondering which would be the best method
Question. As a content creator you probably take lots of photos. What’s the best way o organize them? You can put them in albums but they still stay under your camera roll taking up space

I backed up on my Mac and then plugged in my new one and selected the date and time. The eSim had a little snag but it works now.

Oh man, I was looking for this video yesterday. I thought transfering data directly from one phone to another was faster than via iCloud. Now I know better. Unfortunately, I started the transfer before watching this video. At the beginning I got a message that my phone number could not be transferred. I'm hoping I can do it smoothly right after transfering everything. I'm moving from iPhone 14 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max with an eSim.
I wanted to ask you, if you're upgrading both your iPhone and Apple Watch, is there a preferred sequence? Does it make a difference if you move to the new watch first or to the new phone first?

@zollotech Aaron, have you noticed with ios17 custom and purchased text tones are gone? You can see them under ringtones, but you cannot select them as text tones.

Do you have to sign out of Apple ID on the old phone before doing a factory reset? In case I wish to sell the old phone, the new owner shouldn’t face issues.

Transfer was pretty smooth with no issues, Apple Watch was were problems started. Had to wipe watch clean and add it as new watch. Thought there would be an easier way ?

With so much nowadays working on Bluetooth it’s a complete pain to have to set up a pairing again…. Is there a way to ensure Bluetooth setting transfer ???

If I transfer directly from the phone instead of iCloud will I have to do the restart of the old iPhone all at once or I can individually delete stuff unlike the iCloud version
Mine didn't want to pair to my Apple Watch and it offered me the update when I turned it on. It ended up locking up my watch and I had to do a hard reset to get it working again, then I had to remove it from my account and set it up as a new watch. Other than that, it went mostly well here. I am sending my SE 2020 to Decluttr this morning. I told the UPS guy that it is iPhone day and he chuckled. Saying "I have a whole truck full of them"

I went from a 14 Pro to the 15 Pro (eSIM to eSIM). I’m keeping the 14. When I went to erase it, the option to keep or delete the eSIM came up. I kept it the eSIM. Was that the correct option?

I updated my new iphone 15 pro to iOS 17.0.2 and now beta versions are not available anymore and the option between listen for "Hey Siri or just Siri" is also gona and you always have to say "Hey Siri"....is this normal? I love your videos btw, thank you. Very useful!

The side by side transfer of everything from my iPhone 8 Plus to the new phone went without a problem. It took a 20 minute phone call to my provider to activate the eSim on the new phone. The phones could not connect to transfer my number. Because the 8 has a physical sim? Good video. Regarding photos. I copy all photos to my computer. Then back up on an external hard drive.
