Great video again, nailed almost everything on it's head. But there was just one thing that I could find of issue; You underplayed the value of Genghis' essential adoption of Borte's illegitimate son. On the Steppe, children like that would have been left to die under normal circumstances, but Genghis didn't do that. He brought the child in, claimed he was his own and very much treated him as his own son. It just goes to show the actual character of this man, behind the facade of the military leader. And it further pokes holes in the "Genghis is a vicious military leader who killed everything in his path" mindset that's so often blindly accepted.
Jochi was actually supposed to become next Great Khan after Genghis died but his jealous younger brother Chagatai protested, calling him a bastard. For fear of future civil wars, Genghis Khan appointed his 3rd son Ogedai as new crown prince. But it didn't help, as the Jochid family and Chagatai family would feud later and break the Mongol empire. This video is a bit inaccurate in that regard.

Unfortunately that is not how things playdd out. After decades of war, Jamuqas forces were reduced to a few, and they lived in the mountains as brigands. Feeling pretty fed up, Jamuqas men turned on him and delivered him to Temujin in chains. These men thought they would be rewarded, but instead Temujin was disgusted by their willingness to even lay a hand on their own lord and had them executed. It was then that Temujin reminded Jamuqa that they had once been blood brothers, and could be again. But Jamuqa refused this offer, and said that there could only be one Mongol lord on the Steppe. He asked instead for a Nobleman's death; a death without spilling his blood, for to the Mongols spilling a noble's blood is taboo. Temunin obliged and had Jamuqa's spine broken, and allegedly buried his one time friend and nemesis with the golden sash that they had exchanged as adults.

And what's stopping an established family from being ambitious and based on merit? Tradition is the bedrock from which you stand and anybody who builds knows the necessity of a good foundation.
Unfortunately, meritocracy turns into aristocracy after a generation or two. Aristocrats firmly believe they are the ones with the greatest merit after all.
Unless they don't and just like to say they're important a lot without actually giving any good reason for why that's the case aside from it's "important because I say it is and I'm important what circular logic".

This series on Genghis is probably one of the best you've ever done. It's such an excellent story, only two episodes in and I'm completely entranced. Can't wait for the next one. Well fucking done!
This is incredible!! It's like an animated and engaging version of the Secret History of the Mongols without all the boring stuff about his ancestry and random stories about his followers
Imagine being someone that went from being slave to one of the most famous Conqueror on the world. Their lives are bound to be lot LOT more interesting than rest of us.
We must remember a few things. First Temujin's grandfather had been a Khan (Qabul Khan), but his father didn't become one. And while some clans were more powerful and noble than others Mongol succession is a unique process and not as simple as regular hereditary succession. Merit still plays a large roll in deciding who will be Khan. When a Khan dies his primary wife oversees the Quriltai, where the tribe would decide upon a new khan. close blood did have some sway but the deciding factor was who could be the best Khan for the tribe. Someone with a large army, who's proven himself, is charismatic, and can leave the clans alone, who can be a good arbitrator. Sometimes this process took years to decide and sometimes was a bloddy affair. Also note that even if your Khan your position is never secure. You can be challenge at any time and if many clans didn't attend the Quriltai to vote on Khan then your rule isn't as strong and you'll basically have to subjugate the clans that didn't come.
The movie "Mongol: The Rise Of Genghis Khan" shows a very interesting way that Borte was kidnapped by the Merkits. As she and Temujin are fleeing from them, Temujin takes an arrow to his back. It's not a fatal shot, but he is growing woozy and losing consciousness. Deciding to let herself be captured so her husband can escape, Borte grabs Temujin's riding crop and spurs his horse on so he can get away in time. Now THAT is what I call a loyal wife!
Your document is second to none my friend. Very much to the points. Very easy to understand. And covering all the important moments of the Khan’s history. Well Done!

Every great turning point in history is a time when a reformer (for good or ill) overcomes a conservative. That should be obvious, from the definitions of reformer, conservative, and turning point.
Yep, Bolsheviks vs Royalists, NSDAP vs Weimar Democrats, Racial Collectivists vs Individualist Conservatives. The truth is that Genghis Khan (At least at this point in his history) is more like the US Conservatives. Individualists based on merit and character (At least in theory, Trump is not a good example of this). Reformers are not necessarily the good guys. Extremely often they have been the bad guys.
Same deal with the Romans, the Greeks, the persians, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Egyptians, axumites, etc.... Same idea, diffrent story and it's still happening today, overall reformers tend to be better for a nation more so than stern traditionalists who want to hold progress back.
Did you know that the thing that probably killed the Neanderthal is that they were by nature conservative, unlink some sapiens, and well, you know the story
this is one of the most informative videos i have ever seen and i think it is better than most of the educational videos i have ever watched and this changed what i thought about Genghis Khan he was kind of a bad but good person , he changed the world but he took countless lives respect to the genghis khan
No they have one about the Cuban missile crisis going right now, though older history is usually less bias so it is easier to do, especially since governments usually do not release info until decades later.
"-Jamukha came from higher lineage than Temujin" That's not true. Temujin's great grandfather was the founder of the Mongol confederation which included Jamukha's tribe. Temujin's father once led that confederation which you didn't mention. Jamukha and Temujin shared the same ancestors. But Jamukha's line was from a bastard. So his tribe was seen as outsiders by the other Mongols.
Exactly. Jamukha's progenitor Jajirdai was born from a pregnant woman captured by Bodanchar. From him father-son lineage goes like this Bodanchar - Khabich Bagatur- Menen Tudun - Khachi Khulug - Khaidu - Tumbinai Setsen - Khabul khan - Bartan Bagatur - Yesukhei - Temujin. Khabul Khan was the founder of the Mongol confederation.

And what's stopping an established family from being ambitious and based on merit? Tradition is the bedrock from which you stand and anybody who builds knows the necessity of a good foundation.
Unless the tradition is meritocracy
The very reason why the birth of industrialism and capitalism spelled doom for the nobility and royal families. The nouveau riche!
9:05 Temujin was a radical 😂 that's brilliant
I'm only subbed for extra history to be honest
Same

Oh my GOD!
Can we have this sung to the original song's tune but in throat singing?
This series on Genghis is probably one of the best you've ever done. It's such an excellent story, only two episodes in and I'm completely entranced. Can't wait for the next one. Well fucking done!
Friends are those that are so close that they only need a penknife instead of a sword to stab you in the back.
Otto Von Bismarck care to explain how you know this to the rest of the class Bismarck?
This is incredible!! It's like an animated and engaging version of the Secret History of the Mongols without all the boring stuff about his ancestry and random stories about his followers
This legitimately feels like a movie sometimes...
I wouldnt be surprised if someone has made a movie about this.
Chinese people made a series based on Secret History which is very accurate to the source material
Imagine being someone that went from being slave to one of the most famous Conqueror on the world.
Their lives are bound to be lot LOT more interesting than rest of us.
You were my brother Temujin! I loved you!
Star Wars reference?
Wheres this from?
I HAVE THE HIGH STEP GROUND
3:50
Jamukha:cmon man we’ve been waiting for you we have been sitting here for days.
Temujin:sorry bro but I wanted to chill
5:32 Bro doesn’t even care, he’ll raise it if it was his or not! Literally a 10/10 father-step-father.
Man I'm loving this series, since I've always been enamored by Genghis Khan's story, and the changes he brought to his empire.
Dan! I was playing Civ V when I met Genghis Khan, and he said, 'I am Temujin!' I just thought it was interesting.
Yeah, he doesn't like me now.
7:11
Whale.."I hate that word"
-One of the Dan's, can't remember which.
Just what I needed for my weekend!
1:45, That's a very cute smiley face you gave her, it's so cute!.
That feeling when an extra history episode ends...I HATE THAT FEELING!!!
*Truly Astonishing Uploads Credits ! Appeciate it very much !*
Ive never clicked on something so fast
The movie "Mongol: The Rise Of Genghis Khan" shows a very interesting way that Borte was kidnapped by the Merkits. As she and Temujin are fleeing from them, Temujin takes an arrow to his back. It's not a fatal shot, but he is growing woozy and losing consciousness. Deciding to let herself be captured so her husband can escape, Borte grabs Temujin's riding crop and spurs his horse on so he can get away in time. Now THAT is what I call a loyal wife!
5:03 **YOU CAN’T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!**
I’d just like to say that whoever draws for your videos makes amazing horses.
I love your videos keep up the good work!
Your document is second to none my friend. Very much to the points. Very easy to understand. And covering all the important moments of the Khan’s history. Well Done!
i am really liking this series so far. I think it may be one of my favorites. Up there with khosrau and Sengoku Jidai.
you guys do such a good job. informational and educational. teachers in school were so boring and didnt have any passion for their subjects (probably from years of repeating the same thing). i think this is the new medium of learning
Fun fact: Before Jamukhai died he told temujin that “just like there are no 2 suns there are no two khans”
I´m enjoying this series very much. Also, at 6:21 I think I caught a Discworld reference! :-)
Part two: more death.
Jumbo Cat Studios soon to be followed by parts three and four, continuous death and the great genocide.
Kinda what history is all about.
Jamukha: I'll just put Temujin in his place, that'll do it!
Temujin: Oh, bad idea, son.
Also, #Bortemujin, because I'm a shipper like that.

Love this channel.
I love this series to bits! You guys are amazing at giving me different perspectives on historical figures, that I thought I already knew. You guys rock!
Highly recommended Genghis Khan reading is the 5 part series by Conn Iggulden. Fantastic.
I've never enjoyed learning history until this channel.
Oh poor Borte.
Seriously, i can't get enough of these extra history episodes
Reformer vs. Conservative
.
.
.
Never heard this story before
PlifalTV yep
Can I just say that I absolutely adore the way you drew the horses
IT WAS WALPOLE!
Diogenes the drunk I agree
Diogenes the drunk though it was Bismarck's plan
Yes of course it was me

02:02 Mr Stark I am not feeling so good.
this is one of the most informative videos i have ever seen and i think it is better than most of the educational videos i have ever watched and this changed what i thought about Genghis Khan he was kind of a bad but good person , he changed the world but he took countless lives respect to the genghis khan
Yes More Extrahistory!

I love these videos so much, its crazy how much of this history was recorded. Such an interesting lifestyle the mongols had.
Please do the Hungarian Revolution (The Soviet one). Good Video btw.

+Tormenta Mathan Thx for the Info.
+Patrick Star Ok thx.
No they have one about the Cuban missile crisis going right now, though older history is usually less bias so it is easier to do, especially since governments usually do not release info until decades later.
I wanna watch now but i work nights and the new videos are all I have to get me through each night!
Great video
I just want to say thanks for teaching me all the history I've been watching your videos for more than 3 years and I say they're Epic thank you
"-Jamukha came from higher lineage than Temujin" That's not true.
From him father-son lineage goes like this
Bodanchar - Khabich Bagatur- Menen Tudun - Khachi Khulug - Khaidu - Tumbinai Setsen - Khabul khan - Bartan Bagatur - Yesukhei - Temujin.
Khabul Khan was the founder of the Mongol confederation.
I have heard (and watched) this story like a billion times already, so i dont even know why im watching. Maybe its because i really like the intro tune to his extra history Vids.
Could you do a series on Salahuddin. It would be great to see on this channel
shah haque definitely this. He's always been an amazing but underappreciated historical figure
