The metal ones work really well
They work great to clean up canning jars that have been stored in a barn.

Use it on a grill that has been used more than once
This is a fair statement. I think that grate had only been used once or twice. The brush removed less of that black stuff on a more frequently used grate. Still better then a sponge though.
