Thanks for this! So, so good to see. I was the architect in charge of the Crescent conservation and construction for five years. Sadly, due to the current situation, I haven't had the opertunity to visit recently (I'm up in Scotland but came down every week). It was a VERY difficult project and many of the builders and designers will be life long friends, through adversity shared. This is rare... Beautiful town and you're now making me want to go back again for a refresh!! BTW directly opposite The Crescent is St Anne's Well where you can literally 'take the waters'. The water filters through the peak district limestone hills and emerges beautifully crisp and refreshing from the Well. Many people turn up with bottles and cannisters to fill up! The Opera House houses some great artistes. Particularly remember a (drummer) Cozy Powell tribute concert there years ago where guitar god Brian may (Queen) made a special appearance! Thanks for posting. Have just subscribed and am off to view a few more of your walks!!

Hi, dad got his first car in 1956 when I was 10 years old during the Suez Crisis, once petrol was a bit easier to get we used to visit Buxton often before moving on to Matlock and Matlock Bath. He used to stop on the Bakewell Road next to Ashwood Park an area you didn’t visit in your film. He had a friend who served on the same destroyer in WW2 who ran the Hope and Anchor in Wirksworth, while in the area we visited the Well Dressing's around Derbyshire. Next year is our 50th wedding anniversary and before setting of on our driving honeymoon to the West Country we spent our wedding night at the Palace Hotel. Apart from the obvious the memories were of trying to persuade a ginormous moth to fly out of the window and the hotel not charging for a half bottle of wine with our meal, as a Yorkshireman that certainly sticks in the mind :-)
Ah wow now those are real memories Mike thank you!! I will be filming more around the area so will try and find as many of the things you mention and include 👍👍❤️❤️ You’ve inspired me to go to Matlock and Matlock Bath too - stay tuned!

I really like the Peak District, I've been up there several times but never actually been to Buxton yet. There's a speedway track in the Peak District in between Buxton and Leek which is surrounded by countryside and its really nice to visit but the weather has a mind of its own sometimes.
I lived in Buxton as a kid for a couple of years way back in the 60s and it was a beautiful town and the countryside around it stunning. It was bloody cold though even in summer and in the winter it had more than its fair share of snow and icy winds. I also remember the Cat and Fiddle road between Buxton and Macclesfield. You only did a fraction of Buxton, you missed the main shopping arcade, fantastic museum on the way up to the top market where the town hall and loads more independent shops are situated - you will have to do come back and do a part 2 Buxton.
I've watched many of your great walking videos especially during the lockdowns. I prefer the videos without music and songs. The sounds of the wind, waves, birds, indistinct chatter and even vehicular noise made me feel more as if I'm there. By the way, small but historic and beautiful East Anglia towns seems to be neglected, for example, King's Lynn.
Thanks for video. Im thinking of visiting for my birthday. Does anyone recommend any really nice hotels. I see good reviews for Great Western Buxton hotel.
@@GimbalWalkTV It used to be right next to it, identical in style... It was the Midland station, the train used to take you through miller's dale, down to Bakewell, Matlock before heading to Derby. @@GimbalWalkTV The old Buxton to Matlock railway line, is now known as the Monsal Trail which is a cycle/walking path with the many SSSI sites along the route. Maybe another recommendation that would make an interesting video for you is to ride the Monsal Trail - it got to be one of the best cycle rides in the UK and very safe as no cars or trains - it starts a couple of miles out of Buxton. Great video of Buxton BTW - keep up the good work.
@@GimbalWalkTV It's a tricky one. It's in Derbyshire so officially it's East Midlands, but it's often classed as North West. The local ambulance service is East Midlands, the water authority is Severn Trent in line with the rest of the wider Midlands, but the local TV is North West. However, in Earl Sterndale a few miles to the south they get their TV news from Birmingham. If you look at a map of England and divide it into three, Buxton would definitely be in the Midlands, as would Manchester and Sheffield for that matter. Personally I think most of Cheshire is geograpically in the Midlands, although not politically.
What a lovely video! It is a place with such great character, and I’m pleased to say it’s my nearest town. It’s a shame that Griffindor lose 10 points because because you called it an American “train station” instead of a British “Railway Station”, but that’s forgiven because the video was so inspiring. I do hope you visit again, because the walk up Terrace Road to the Market Place will be worthwhile - there’s a lot to see up there, especially on a Saturday when the market is on. Thank you!
Ah I'm getting so much grief for the railway station/train station thing! 🤣 I never knew it was such a controversial subject! Thank you so much for watching!
The only thing I question is the actual dates the buildings were built, bearing in mind it was supposedly an era of the horse and cart without power tools etc….. Then look at other towns and cities in uk and Europe…. Really should make you question the actual narrative of our history. Such beautiful architecture it’s like we have de-evolved rather than evolved. Also recommend looking at the whole town using a drone it’s truly amazing how well designed it is.
I use to live near Buxton, love the place but on last visit to see how some areas have dilapidated ie the market place and along Spring gardens and the Fairfield road into Buxton. Also heard some years back they took overspill from a Manchester council estate into an estate up above the Leek Road, a few problems with fly tipping and lowering of tone etc since...but this has happened with many towns over the past decades...My thought is will change - if has not done already as that was back in late 90's - maybe someone can let me know? - onward and upward. They have done a good job with renovations on St Annes hotel though dismayed at what they have done with the bedrooms, the interior designer they used should be shot - lol. My preference would be The Old Hall Hotel :-) at least until they sort out those bedroom at St Anne's.
Hi Ry If you use the 'Shazam' app it will tell you all the music on the video but also any you hear on TV or in movies or even out and about in pubs, or on the street etc (it's totally free!)
I am aware that Sarah Duncan, who played Lady Victoria in the 'Royal Flush' episode of 'Only Fools and Horses', has said that the interior shots of the opera were filmed in Buxton. I have watched the episode where the interior wall of the theatre and the ends of the stalls seats are shown. I have compared these with photographs taken inside the Buxton Opera House (BOH). They clearly do not match and I must conclude that the interior opera scenes could not have been filmed at the BOH. I am disappointed as I live in Buxton but cannot argue with the evidence of my own eyes!
“If you are visiting Buxton you could stay here at the crescent” yeah if you have £100000000 laying around. Unlikely. The crescent is like £1000 a night. Don’t go and stay there please!
Would like to clarify the Pump Room ..opposite the crescent...is NOT being converted into a restaurant, but is the new Buxton Visitor Centre, opened in spring 2019. Here you can obtain lots of advice, books, leaflets and maps to help you make the most of your stay in Buxton and the peak district. We also stock a wide range of souvenirs and original gifts. Please do call in and see us! It is an incredibly beautiful , historic building in its own right. A haven of cool marble and stained glass , with the famous well.
@@johnnylaws3758 Correct. The Pump Rooms behind the crescent are currently being converted into a restaurant. Felicity doesn't know what she's on about.
Your videos are great, but the music is pointless and just ruins it all. Why do you think that the viewer wants to hear YOUR favourite songs? How about trying the natural ambience of a location instead? I mean, you did Runswick Bay and the sound of the sea there is amazing, but no. Some daft Shania Twain rubbish.

I live in Pakistan but my dream is to live in British countryside forever Buxton and Lincolnshire are some of the great places
Nice! How did you find out about them?
My home town!
Do you like it in Buxton?
I think it's a great place!
Surely the fountain thing is Buxton spring water? Not sure about the last bit of the sound track 🤫
Not sure
Nice car 😀😀
My next one after the Qashqai 🤣🤣🤣
Good vid, you should try Bakewell next.
Have done a few there already Lander!

What a shame you didn’t visit the museum, it’s a great plac
I got excited by the Crescent when I saw it and lost focus!
I'm going back to redo this one Jean!
@@GimbalWalkTV Sorry - didn’t intend to cause grief... but yes, it is a controversial subject!
there this morning coffee on the slopes feeding the jackdaws
Perfect!
@@GimbalWalkTV keep the videos coming love them
Humble walk. Are you also belong to village of derbyshire or city . Or have you come to countryside to make videos by walk
I travel
The only thing I question is the actual dates the buildings were built, bearing in mind it was supposedly an era of the horse and cart without power tools etc….. Then look at other towns and cities in uk and Europe….
Really should make you question the actual narrative of our history.
Such beautiful architecture it’s like we have de-evolved rather than evolved.
Also recommend looking at the whole town using a drone it’s truly amazing how well designed it is.
So true
Yeah a few people have said the same!
Are you going to give us a song or dance 😂😂
Ha ha ha neither!
What is the tune in the background?
Hi Ry
If you use the 'Shazam' app it will tell you all the music on the video but also any you hear on TV or in movies or even out and about in pubs, or on the street etc (it's totally free!)
@@GimbalWalkTV thanks very much, keep up the awesome content
@@ryearl764 No problem - anytime! Thank you for the support and for watching my channel!
Did you know that part of an episode of Only Fools and Horses was filmed at the Buxton Opera House?
I didn’t! Can you remember what happened? I would love to track it down and watch it!
@@GimbalWalkTV it was used for the interior shots of the opera in the episode Royal Flush
Nice place 👌
Definitely Paul!
Would be nice to see😂inside hotel.
When you visit come see me at morrisons
I could film a walk around the store!
MORE reasons to go to Morrisons
I worked on the Crescent! £80 million that cost to renovate.
Oh my!! You did a great job though! Absolutely stunning!
Great job on the renovations - I've been a couple of times. Love the rooftop swimming pool!
Harrogate seems better!
Did you know that Mary the Queen of Scott’s stayed at the old hotel across from you?
I didn't! Going to look that up now!
Macdonald's water?
I didn't go to McDonalds
Make night time video walking in town center in Winter
👍👍
“If you are visiting Buxton you could stay here at the crescent” yeah if you have £100000000 laying around. Unlikely. The crescent is like £1000 a night. Don’t go and stay there please!
Oh is it crazy expensive? 🤣
@@GimbalWalkTV sorry that wasn’t me I don’t remember typing that 😂 my sister was probably on my phone 😆 sorry I honestly don’t remember typing that
@@GimbalWalkTV and it’s not £1000 a night 😂
@@LDSCars £800 a night!!
A thank you so much! I'll be there myself again soon to have a look around!!
Thank you for the info it's very much appreciated! 👍
Not the Pump Room opposite the crescent. The Pump Rooms BEHIND the Crescent. They ARE being converted into a restaurant.
@@johnnylaws3758 Correct. The Pump Rooms behind the crescent are currently being converted into a restaurant. Felicity doesn't know what she's on about.
Ok but they sell Buxton mineral water
Didn't know that - Buxton is such a great place I can't wait to go back!
Actually the weather is often appalling. Lucky you werent run over and killed in the heavy traffic
ha ha yes I kept my eyes out for that happening!
Thanks for watching Chris! Have a TOP day!
Happy thanks giving to you Billy 🎇🥂☯️🤗🇬🇧😊
