This song is real fun and crafty, the tempo is on point, the guitar, bass and Ringos drumming...its a Beatle hit that was missed by the radio station in 1969...and remember this is on the Beatles " Hey Jude Album" which also includes " Rain " " Balled of John & Yoko" ..I love it. 🪲🪲🪲🪲🍏🍎
"THAT BASS"..... In a 1987 interview for Creem magazine, Harrison recalled that he was the bass guitarist on the track, rather than McCartney. When the interviewer, J. Kordosh, suggested that the bass part "sounds like McCartney was going nuts again", Harrison replied: "That was me going nuts. I’m doing [on the bass] exactly what I do on the guitar."
Me too… Blue album was the first album I bought… 1973/74 … I was 12 or 13… what an intro to the Beatles… probably explains why I love their later stuff 👍🏼
The group performed the song several times during the Get Back sessions. The first time was on January 27, 1969, with two executions. In the first only Harrison played, who sang accompanied by the piano, while in the second it was performed by the full band, with Billy Preston. Old Brown Shoe was also tested on the 28th and 29th, eight and once respectively. All performances were included in numerous bootleg recordings that led to the Let It Be album.
Every song Ringo shines. You can identify Beatles songs by the drum beat alone in most cases. Every one unique and different. And, with fellow Brits Charlie Watts and Mick Fleetwood, a human metronome. Not flashy and on point. It was about the song and vocals. A lot of drummers don't like him because he was a left hand lead on a right handed kit, but he was just as important as the other 3 to their sound. Plus, he was the guy everyone got along with. Extremely important in a band.
George Harrison - vocals, electric guitars, Hammond organ Paul McCartney - backing vocals, electric bass, piano Ringo Starr - drums John Lennon - backing vocals[1][2][4] John Lennon had originally played a guitar part on the song, but this was eliminated during the mixing stage[13]. McCartney has also sometimes been credited with a guitar part[1].
@@RRCCTexas With a bluesy and furious sound, Harrison takes charge of the distorted bass, as well as churning out another prodigious solo, technically one of the best of his career. There are conflicting reports, but you are most likely right
Yeah, the vocals on this on the new mix of the newly re-released Blue Album sound the same. Apparently, George sang from the corner of the room to get an echo effect and the effect can't be removed.
"Old brown Shoe" - George Harrison I want a love that's right But right is only half of what's wrong I want a short haired girl Who sometimes wears it twice as long Now I'm stepping out this old brown shoe Baby, I'm in love with you I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now I'm telling you You know you pick me up From where some try to drag me down And when I see your smile Replace every thoughtless frown Got me escaping from this zoo Baby, I'm in love with you I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now When I'm with you If I grow up I'll be a singer Wearing rings on every finger Not worrying what they or you say I'll live and love and maybe someday Who knows, baby, you may comfort me I may appear to be imperfect My love is something you can't reject I'm changing faster than the weather If you and me should get together Who knows, baby, you may comfort me I want that love of yours To miss that love is something I'd hate I'll make an early start I'm making sure that I'm not late For you sweet top lip I'm in the queue Baby, I'm in love with you I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now When I'm with you I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now When I'm with you
What a tune. This deep cut would rocket to the top if it was released today. Their genius is quite astonishing and I include Ringo as a vitally important member of the greatest band in history.
Nice choice. George rocks hard on this one. They weren't really a band at this point and were often recording multiple instruments themselves in their own songs. The A side of this song, The Ballad of John and Yoko, was all Paul and John. Paul played bass and drums and John played all the guitar parts.
Overall, I would say that they were still a band at this point, evolving, splintering, but still a band. George was on vacation and Ringo was in Italy filming "Candy" when "Ballad" was recorded.
Jarvis, this is a Beatles song from 1969, right at the very end, just before the breakup. Paul McCartney was typically the bass player for the Beatles, but they did switch it up, and as all of them were multi-instrumentalists they could and did change instruments in their songs. This is one exampled. Then, if you look at the Beatles performing "Hey Jude" live on the David Frost show in 1968, you can see Paul is on the piano in the song, and if you look closely, you will see George playing the Fender six string bass in that song. Another prominent song where they switched roles was on "Helter Skelter" where John plays the six string bass on that one, and though he's not nearly as accomplished a bass player as Paul, the way John plays it in that song fits the song perfectly. A very talented quartet this band was!
That's the way to do it. Thanks for not chopping up the song to give ur opinion. George wrote the son but it's a Beatles tune. Recorded in late sixties. Bring some more on..love watching you all reaction. Rock on
How this ended up a throw away song on a B side single instead of on Abbey Road or George's 'All things must pass' album is insane to me!! This is one of George's best songs that he ever wrote. I don't know why George thought so little of this song.

In my humble opinion the greatest guitar solo ever played by any beatle....
Just another Beatles hit!🪲🪲🪲🪲⚡️🍏🍎
This song is probably one of the Beatles greatest unknown gems.

Did this song for years in bands.
Not just a great song but interesting and fun to play with a,great George solo.

Great bass. George goes nuts. Nice!
This was my favourite song growing up. Heard it from the Blue Album

AliasMark69, that's my understanding as well, that George is on the bass on this one, and Paul is on the piano for this song.
And yet another Masterpiece. Ringo really shines with the time changes. Everyone is stellar!
Yes ,poor old Ringo gets a bad rap when talking drummers but that's crap ! His timing is something else .
Such a unique drummer. He really is one of the best. And, such a great guy.
Every song Ringo shines.

Paul played drums here, Ringo sat this one out.
I remember we had that single. Old Brown shoe was the B side of The Ballad of John and Yoko. 🎶🎶🎶👍
You should look on you tube for " The Ballad of Don and Noko". A parody done by my sons.
George stated he played both guitar and bass on this one.
Correct
George Harrison - vocals, electric guitars, Hammond organ
Paul McCartney - backing vocals, electric bass, piano
Ringo Starr - drums
John Lennon - backing vocals[1][2][4]
John Lennon had originally played a guitar part on the song, but this was eliminated during the mixing stage[13]. McCartney has also sometimes been credited with a guitar part[1].
And this information came from where? George has stated that he played both guitar and bass on this track. @@Marlenefanclubsimone

Nor can that little bit of distortion.
"Old brown Shoe" - George Harrison
I want a love that's right
But right is only half of what's wrong
I want a short haired girl
Who sometimes wears it twice as long
Now I'm stepping out this old brown shoe
Baby, I'm in love with you
I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now
I'm telling you
You know you pick me up
From where some try to drag me down
And when I see your smile
Replace every thoughtless frown
Got me escaping from this zoo
Baby, I'm in love with you
I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now
When I'm with you
If I grow up I'll be a singer
Wearing rings on every finger
Not worrying what they or you say
I'll live and love and maybe someday
Who knows, baby, you may comfort me
I may appear to be imperfect
My love is something you can't reject
I'm changing faster than the weather
If you and me should get together
Who knows, baby, you may comfort me
I want that love of yours
To miss that love is something I'd hate
I'll make an early start
I'm making sure that I'm not late
For you sweet top lip I'm in the queue
Baby, I'm in love with you
I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now
When I'm with you
I'm so glad you came here, it won't be the same now
When I'm with you
George Harrison just tore this up.
Totally...
What a tune.
This deep cut would rocket to the top if it was released today.
Their genius is quite astonishing and I include Ringo as a vitally important member of the greatest band in history.
I think their "story" is quite amazing. They started quite young, went to Germany as teenagers. They are truly unique and amazingly talented.
Nice choice. George rocks hard on this one.

No it was NOT at the end. The song was released in the Spring of 69. I swear there's no shortage of dummmies on the internet.

George Harrison - lead vocals, slide and bass guitars, organ. John Lennon - piano, backing vocals. Paul McCartney - drums, backing vocals. No Ringo.
There's no slide guitar on this tune...
