2022 Wisconsin Gun Season: Opening Weekend

Austin heads to west central Wisconsin for opening weekend of gun deer season in Wisconsin. Just 30 minutes in to opening morning, he is able to shoot one of the oldest bucks on the farm. The next morning Austin's sister Morgan is able to shoot her third buck ever out of the same stand.

Darn good season with some nice bucks, well done. Was the infection on your buck's neck from fighting you think? Wasn't a huge rack but, he looked like an older tough guy. Anyway, good luck in the future.

Thank you! The infection on my deer was from fighting. He had taken an antler through the skull cap between his bases. Infections started there and pooled down into the neck where the lump was. The infection pocket was even bigger than it looked externally. Although he looked healthy when I shot him, I highly doubt he would have made it through winter so glad I was able to get him. A basketball tournament on opening weekend of deer season? Wtf! I remember when my son played, they had a tournament on the Friday after thanksgiving and practice on the last Saturday of the season. What a crock! Those were some nice bucks your family killed, nice camera work!

He actually took an antler through the top of his skull at some point during the rut which led to an infection that pooled up in his neck. He had lost quite a bit of weight from earlier in the year so my guess is he would not have survived winter

Y’all must have some disease going around your deer. Because the second buck had a cyst on its left hip.

No cyst on the buck my sister shot. The lump on my buck was actually from a fighting wound. The buck had taken an antler through the skull cap between the bases. The infection started there and pooled down into the neck where it collected to form the lump.
