Good lesson Jayne… i am so impressed how knowledgeable and educated you have becomes especially since you have only been into gardening for a few years! I love following your journey. This is obviously your passion and you are truly being blessed! Another great video!!! 🧡❤️💜💙💚

I think she has learned a lot in such a short amount of time. I don't know about you, but I started watching her when Laura posted her narrow side yard. I've been hooked on Janey ever since, she's such a love and brightens my day. I truly miss it when she doesn't post a video on the weekends 😟
I have learned so much from her - like the reason why you need to harden off. From all the gardening videos I've watched I've never heard of that reason.
      Have a good day.

Oh wow… no I didn't realize her narrow area was on Lauras channel. I found Jayne by doing a zone 9b search ( i am in California as well so I was looking for other channels in my area) then Jaynes gorgeous face popped up! I have been a fan since!!! In fact Jayne inspired me to start my own channel! I don't have as much tine to watch garden videos anymore but I still watch all Jaynes!!!

Hardening off is my biggest struggle because I'm away from the house during the day 5 days a week, so last year I did a lot of hardening off in the shade so the plants could stay out longer without needing me. If you can find a spot like a covered porch where you sort of know the sun will only hit for a few hours, that works well, too. It's amazing how fast the seedlings strengthen up!

Thank you for this input because I’m in the same situation. I leave my house at 7am and get home around 5:30pm M-F so there would be no moving them around during the day. I need to find a spot to leave them during the day.

This is what I do, too. Unless it’s a weekend, I’m not here to move them in and out after a couple of hours. I put them on our patio in the shade. Or - when life is perfect (LOL) - I get a super cloudy dayt or two and I just leave them outside.

@@digsindirt4490 Gotta love those perfect cloudy spring days! More often than not cloudy means thunderstorms here in the spring, so not seedling weather.

Janey, when I was a new gardener (over 45 years ago), I also planted seedlings outside without hardening them off first, which I thought sounded stupid, tedious, and unnecessary. I think this is a common mistake most new gardeners make, however, those so-called mistakes (and failures), are great learning experiences. As gardeners, we continue to learn (sometimes by trial and error) new and better ways of growing things. It's always fascinating and fun for me to try growing something I've never tried growing before. Have a wonderful weekend! ~Margie🤗💚🦋🐝

This is such a great educational video! I’ve never thought of what happens during the hardening off process. You need to teach a gardening class.
Here’s a tip… make a rolling cart that you can wheel in and out of the house. You can get a cheap one and add some wheels to the bottom. Works great.

Thank you Janey! I had so many seedlings wither and die this year and I had no idea why. I did not harden off because I figured it was mild enough lol I’m excited to properly care for my seedlings this next season. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, love that we can learn together 😊

Quick question Janey. I planted a berry barrel like yours in June. How do you winterize your blueberries and strawberries in the barrel? Do you cover them?

Hi Janey, great info since I'm new to starting seeds. With the price of flower starts in the 4" or 6 pk containers going up every year, I figure starting the easier ones from seed will be the way to go. I'm starting with Zinnias which I planned on germinating in late winter for spring planting. Would it be better to start them now and keep them in my mini green house?? Thanks for your fun and informative videos!

Janie, I’m really struggling with my soil blocks. Nothing is germinating. Is it possible to have the soil too wet at first? I’m about to start my 3rd batch of seeds after my first 2 were duds. I’m determined to get this right. LOL
