May I suggest, as someone who has never customized a doll but has drawn thousands of faces as a professional caricaturist: draw the left eye/brow first, before you do the right. That way you do not cover up the first feature while you attempt to place the second. It would be opposite for left-handed artists. Does that make sense? Thanks for an awesome tutorial. No idea when I will have the time to try this but I am certainly feeling very well-informed for if/when I ever do try!

How do you color cleanly with sharp pencils? As someone that does A LOT of shading (I won’t bother going into why unless you’re THAT curious, in which case I’m flattered) I think it looks a lot more clean with a more dull tip. Of course, shading in itself is easier with crayons even if it doesn’t look as clean. * when I say “shade” I mean from the darkest color possible to almost white with one crayon/pencil
This is super helpful, I've been wanting to make a custom doll for years and I think with these tutorials I might actually start! I have to ask, do you ever paint on BJDs or collect them? They seem right up your alley!

I wanted to do a custom doll but before I found a good doll I realized I didn't have money to get the materials and tools to do so.....so I improvised and used eye shadow as pastels and lip stick/gloss for the lips then I used a can of hair spray and when it was done it kinda looked good but the next day it was really hot and the hair spray messed the doll up so.....at least I tried.....plus she was just a test doll anyway....
Make up has oils in them they will melt and don’t last over time it’s better to buy a cheap pastel at the craft store and just add layers. Hello, great tutorial! I love OOAK with my dolls. I've just buy my aquarelles pencils and i've jsut a help question : do I need to wet the pencil to draw the lines on the doll, or do I leave the pencil dry?
When you were saying mini eraser, I kept thinking you said “meaty eraser” 😂😂😂 it’s my crappy hearing lol Anyway, love your videos! - a loyal subscriber
A year later, but make sure you understand the difference between sealing and varnishing! Varnish makes it shiny, but good sealants shouldn't make the doll as shiny.
Dear dollightful, I am trying my first ever doll repaint and let's just say that its going awfully. My watercolor pencil isn't showing up at ALL. I have no clue what to do, and yes i did prime her with Liquitex matte varnish, five layers. I am so sad and desperately need help. Please send any tips...
As someone who is just starting her first repaint, this really gave me some confidence! You showed all the steps in a way that makes sense, and just the little things you do like squeezing the head to get some of the deeper lines in her lips are something I wouldn't have thought of. Thank you for sharing with us!
Wow these look so cute! I got into doll making because of you! I tried finding dolls or figures of my favorite characters from anime or video games, and this inspired me to make my own!
Are there any Japanese BJD enthusiasts in the comments? I'm interested in starting the BJD hobby, but I'm strapped for cash and worried about my ability to make a good face-up. Would you recommend starting with these kinds of dolls before moving onto Japanese BJD dolls? Also, fantastic video. You are so talented and I will definitely be watching more videos!
ive watched many BJD repainting from korean to japanese dolls, and i think MH dolls are similiar to those BJDs. The difference might be on their body size and shape, but if youre new to BJD hobby you can try Monster High (MH) or Ever After High (EAH) dolls. Some artists even made the eyeball separatedly for these dolls by making a hole at the eye part and insert the eyeball from inside the head. hope this helps.
I sometimes go back and watch videos of yours that I've already seen before just to relax, but today it's working too much because I'm exhausted and nearly falling asleep, they're so relaxing 😂
So what if you fail? ;-) No one is perfect for the first time and sometimes it takes hundreds of tries. Artists failed a thousands times before got to where they are now. Try, fail, learn from it and enjoy!
Thanks so much for your videos! I was curious if you're also customizing the body, like body blushing or freckles or whatever, do you do MSC layers on the body as well? The body material feels more slick, so I wasn't sure if needed different prepping or not.
I belive dollightful has done this in other videos. They took apart the dolls limbs before hand, so that the msc dosent get stuck in the joints and make them unable to move. They also sanded down the limbs before the first layer, so that it would stick better.
Leandra Carmo Regarding what Sam said, yes you can do it without but it can rub off and be more difficult to put on. So I recommend it! But if you just want to try it, you don't have to have it.
For some reason I can't get any of my watercolor pencils to work on the vinyl with the MSC.. what could I be doing wrong? The blushing went on fine, but the pencils just scrape at the sealant and don't leave any pigment behind at all :(
You guys with me luck!!! I just bought everything I didn’t have panpastels cause they look extra fun water color pencils and msc... I’m about to remove the face on all the dolls my mom has stored carefully (laughts in evil)
I don’t even customize my dolls (mostly cuz I still liv in my parents house cuz I’m not even a teen yet! ) I just watch for my satisfaction.... :3 CUZ UR FLIPPING AWESOME!!
I wont have the two-eyes-that-need-to-look-the-same-problem, because I gave my doll a backstory and she literelly doesn't have a second eye, while the one eye is still in its usual place. And no, I didn't do this for me to make it easyer, I had my Character already designed before I knew people could make custom dolls. (I'm only 12 ok, don't blame me)

Do you have techniques to draw exactly the same eyes? Because I draw and I often have trouble making two eyes like that: /

What pencils do you use?
And the varnish does not make them drool?
Sorry for all these questions and I wanted to tell you that I love your customs! They are really pretty! :)
You can see the materials she uses in the video: All Materials for Doll Customizing
The Monster high dolls already have eye shapes sculpted on them so she uses them as a baseline for her drawings :)
Fix makeup just means to make it look better and correct mistakes.
Also what translator do you use because it works great.
I Use Alex Water Color Pencils. The Ones She Uses Are A Little Expensive... Also What Language Do You Speak? 😄

Hannah Odnet you need to use vanishing spray/nail polish top coat for the pencil to stay
Weare gloves because the natural oil from your skin can ruin the pencil
eyebrows are your enemy two?!
well on paper for me
same. And hands.
@@annvik3772 I agree, and noses are devils, eyebrows are extreme, and hands kill me

Omg her cat's meow is so high pitched, she sounds like a kitten
That’s what that sound is supposed to be?
If you mean beginning and ending of her videos she is saying "hello!" and "goodbye!" in Korean haha
Is very cute, you think so too right?🙂😂
She shows her cat meowing at the end of this video 😂
Where has your channel been all my life??! Lol! I have been binging on your channel and some of the other custom doll channels that I've found since discovering yours. I think I'm almost ready to start trying to make my own custom dolls...at least I know that watching these have really made me want to. And I love all things that are arts and crafts-y where I can get creative and use my imagination...and luckily I actually have most of the things that I'd need for doll making. I really appreciate how much detail you put in your videos explaining your process. And this series explaining how to get started is so incredibly detailed and helpful. I just wanted to say thank you, you are so inspiring. I know me personally, I have been so inspired to create art since finding and following your channel.
Much love, from Oklahoma city, oklahoma, USA ♡♡♡
Your voice is very peaceful(hope that didn't sound creepy lol). but it sounds cheerful and nice!!! And oh my god is that your cat!? It's too cute!
:3
Aw, thank you so much! I'm always trying to sound less awkward in my voice overs, haha. Yes! She's my little princess.
How do you keep the whites of the eyes so white? Mine look fine at first, but turn more red once I spray with MSC
Use acrilyc paints before the very last layer of MSC. It helps.
I don’t have any pastels...so I was carefully (or carelessly) using markers😂😂😂
Use some crayons. 👀
vanessa
Agreed, oil pastel crayons work wonderfully
But oil based stuff doesnt work on msc (like pencil crayons)
OvO that's a mood
How can we cover a defect on dolls face? Like put foundation???
Custom character: I have reached the highest plain of existent

Custom Doll: *Am I A JokE 2 YoU!?!*
I love your sense of humor! 😂
Madam Pickleness ty 😊
Will it eventually fade away im planning on customizing. Love you! 😄
Hello, great tutorial! I love OOAK with my dolls. I've just buy my aquarelles pencils and i've jsut a help question : do I need to wet the pencil to draw the lines on the doll, or do I leave the pencil dry?
Omg seriously love you ^_^
When you were saying mini eraser, I kept thinking you said “meaty eraser” 😂😂😂 it’s my crappy hearing lol
Anyway, love your videos!

I know im super late but im pretty sure she said kneading eraser...
shouldn't i seal the whole face so the pastels and the watercolors dont get brushed out??
Yes you should! Check part 1~
Dollightful thanks soo much and also can u tell me what the name of dolls that have the marked eye thing?? i really wanna know
Dollightful what was your first costume
Not gonna lie, reminds me of zendaya
a queeeen
Same
she reminds me of link but as a gurl
What pencils are used on the dolls , thank u .

+not a cactus I swear omg mcr ;-;

What colour pencil did you use? Can I use pencil crayons?
Them cat squeaks! Quality content.
Someone told me you can use nail polish top coat instead of sealant is that true?
VeryGoodUsername yeah!
Miki 13 Thanks!
VeryGoodUsername yes
yes but it will be very shiny and rub/ flake off over time.
No
You have inspired me so much Im now going to try to customize a doll. THANK YOU SO MUCH~~
soooo, how did it go..?
This series is very helpful! ♡
I am glad to hear that! :D ❤
Pls show me how to keep this Face up? ( the layer was broken when my kid touched) 😭 I spray sc uv cut 2 times(before n after) but it didn’t work
how can I like a video more than 1 time?😆
You can create multiple accounts
those eyes are too realistic
Yeah so?
+LPS Lynx she was saying a compliment :)
gαlαχу_ ριllσω oh lol I read it wrong dur da dur
Thank you!
Me who can only afford a 3 dollar set of acril: (':
This was so helpful! Although I have already done many dolls, I don’t feel as though I’m improving so this really helped me add realism to my dolls 💓
OMG YOUR CAT IS THE CUTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN! I LOVE your videos btw!
I really want to make a pirate costume doll....but...male faces and all the things... *mission failed*
TWD 2001 we’ll get ‘em next time
TWD 2001 never give up! I believe in you! You got this!
I sometimes go back and watch videos of yours that I've already seen before just to relax, but today it's working too much because I'm exhausted and nearly falling asleep, they're so relaxing 😂
I’ve watched many of repainting dolls, but you are the first to warn us about the dangers of MSC. Love your beautiful work
I love how it turned out o0o Makes me wanna make my own doll
I draw one line and I’m like: “SAVE SAVE SAVE!!!!”
Does she say "I'm young"??
Angry Beaver no she says
"Annyoung" (안녕) which is a hello/goodbye (casual) in korean
No lol she is saying hello in Korean
I Don't Want To Try Because I Don't Want To Fail... But I Love Ur Videos! ❤✌
So what if you fail? ;-)
No one is perfect for the first time and sometimes it takes hundreds of tries.
Artists failed a thousands times before got to where they are now.
Try, fail, learn from it and enjoy!
well. . I had the same fear.
Just think that if u don't like it, u can always remove it and paint it again;-)
If you fail wash it off with acetone :)
Woahh.. I just thought the doll was a character in game, she look like Ashe •.•
Haha thanks!
I love how you give advice on when you first make dolls, it is my dream to be a doll maker!✨❗👍
where can I BUY the sealent
Amazon.com, or hobby/figuring shops like Warhammer or HobbyTownUSA. See my "All Materials for Doll Customizng" video.
U don't have to use the sealant. I tried it!
Dollightful thankyou 😊😊
Sam Herrington thankyou 😊😊😊
Leandra Carmo Regarding what Sam said, yes you can do it without but it can rub off and be more difficult to put on. So I recommend it! But if you just want to try it, you don't have to have it.
YOUR INTRO KAWAII NOISE IS SOOOO CUUUUTE
Hehe thank you!
Is there anything I can use as a substitute for sealant? Thx love your vids
For some reason I can't get any of my watercolor pencils to work on the vinyl with the MSC.. what could I be doing wrong? The blushing went on fine, but the pencils just scrape at the sealant and don't leave any pigment behind at all :(
your may try to wet it a bit to get the color work on the doll, or try to use those watercolor pencil on paper first to make sure that it works
You guys with me luck!!! I just bought everything I didn’t have panpastels cause they look extra fun water color pencils and msc... I’m about to remove the face on all the dolls my mom has stored carefully (laughts in evil)
I know ima end up flopping tryna do this 😂 cheap dolls to start here I come.
I don’t even customize my dolls (mostly cuz I still liv in my parents house cuz I’m not even a teen yet! ) I just watch for my satisfaction.... :3 CUZ UR FLIPPING AWESOME!!
DUUUDE SHE LOOKS LIKE GIGI HADID 😱😱
...except, Gigi has grey-blue eyes and not green *but still*
I wont have the two-eyes-that-need-to-look-the-same-problem, because I gave my doll a backstory and she literelly doesn't have a second eye, while the one eye is still in its usual place. And no, I didn't do this for me to make it easyer, I had my Character already designed before I knew people could make custom dolls. (I'm only 12 ok, don't blame me)
The Irony of this. Drawing on Eyebrows is a cakewalk for me... in all shapes and forms... but drawing the actual eyes is the bane of my existence. D:
i used to replace my dolls hair with other doll hair when i was younger,, no wonder im like this now
