Great informational video. I'm sold, however I just checked their website, and it's on back order. 😞 What are your thoughts 3 years later? Still a buy?
👏👏👏Kudos, brotha!👏👏👏👏👏 Your version of mounting the grill to the Weber is excellent and that's how I'll do mine. This was a great review. You need some type of affiliate link. Great job.
Great review! I just found this after watching another guy reviewed it and was thee most impatient reviewer id seen. This guy was calm, had brains, and was very well explained when it came to the product. I may get it just to say I got it😂
Been running it just fine since I published the review in January 2020. I did switch it from a Weber to a Kamado Joe th-cam.com/video/oqxMl9elmHs/w-d-xo.html
I literally have a Slow N Sear arriving for my Weber on Saturday. How much did this thing cost?? Seems like a neat solution though if you kind of want a trager but don’t want two grills.
Ok, I'm impressed. I have a client that is giving me one. I've been using my buddy's pit boss smoker grill and I love it. It is a performance cooking machine. I believe I can master the Webber as well since I'm already use to cooking in it with charcoal so I can't wait to use the pellet system. Good video, thank you 👍
Great Review Lou 👍 someone else reviewed it and did very poor job. You made it look impressive. Throw a cajon bandit stacker on there double your cooking area. It is a tad pricey at 279.00
It's a nice attachment but. The Recteq RT-B380 bullseye is also a 22 inch kettle grill that uses pellets and gets to 750 deg. Only $ 100 more for the whole grill with a stainless steel kettle at 399.00 free shipping. If you like the Spider 22, you'd love the bullseye.
Greetings, may I inquire if you are still using the Spider 22 Weber Kettle accessory? If so, could you kindly provide information regarding its durability and overall performance? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your valuable time.
I have been using it at least twice a week, year round, since Jan 2020. I had to replace the igniter, as you do in all pellet grills. I replaced the controller, but later realized it was just a fuse on the controller. They are easy to repair. See below. Pellet Grill Repair th-cam.com/video/pCA3x0M-9lE/w-d-xo.html
Great video. I’m on the fence about it, and I have one last deciding factor. Do you think this will also work with the rotisserie attachment for the kettle? I can’t see why it wouldn’t, but what are your thought?
Absolutely I think it would work. The rotisserie attachment sits on the kettle basically like a lid. The lid sits on there fine with the spider, so it would too.
Thanks for the review, nobody has talked about clean up!? The spider has room for a 1/2 tray under the meat to catch dripping big deal compared to other cookers.
Fantastic review. I think you may want to consider wrapping the diffuser tray in foil for easier cleanup. The only 2 improvements for me would be a grilling option on the diffuser which lets some of the fire through that you could open and close, and a digital controller to pick any temp you want....Oh and WIFI would be nice.
Excellent question and I can’t believe I forgot to cover that in the video. Duh!!! 🙄. At the bottom of the part that hooks under the Weber, there is an ash can. Twist slightly to unlock, pull down, dump ashes, and lock back in. Very easy and surprisingly few ashes actually.
When I ordered mine, they were waiting on the covers to be in stock and notified me that it would be delayed. I just got my cover last week, I got the grill in November. I would recommend reaching out to Jeremiah on their webpage. He responds in minutes usually.
Good question! With the lid tightly snapped shut during use, there is no way for smoke and moisture to escape through the pellet chamber, so very little gets in. Its like trying to blow into a milk bottle. I use this thing a few times a week and have never had any moisture issues with the pellets. When pellets get wet, they crumble into sawdust. These stay rock solid.
Fantastic review and video edit. There are a few reviews of this on TH-cam that, shall we say, speak more to the reviewer than the SPIDER-22. Your review really captures the potential. Would like to have seen the ash cleanout and how full that can got of grease during the pork butt!
Lol, yeah “MeTube” videos 😂. There are two byproducts. The grease drips into the pop can, and its not full yet after several cooks. The ash cleanout only needed to be emptied after 3 or so cooks, and there was only maybe a quarter cup of ash.
I wish I knew about this before buying my small Weber. That way I would’ve bought the bigger Weber and upgraded to the pellet smoker later when I had some extra cash.
I've been disappointed with mine. It was clearly used when I received it. The large bolts on the side were stripped and you could see scrape marks on both sides of the exterior. Once I worked around that, I'm finding that the burner will only run for 6-7 hours before shutting down. The FAQ says turn it off, back on for 2 minutes then off again for 5 seconds to re set the burner. It works but only after a couple attempts. Pretty frustrating when you've got a couple pork butts halfway through a cook. Great idea, I still use it but it could definitely use some refinement.
Nope. There are three bottom vents. The spider goes in one. The grease drips out another, and the third is just open. The top vents stay open too. The spider control the temp.
Thanks for asking. I never tried it, but just now did. Yep, its 32 degrees outside and it got up to 550 degrees. Searing temp is about 500, so no problem.
One of the best reviews I have seen. Straight to the point with no dilly dallying.
Your smoker series is a great addition to your "how to" catalog Lou. Clear, easy to consume, and right to the point! Great job!
Thank you for this great review. This is the first that actually teaches how the smoker works!
Great informational video. I'm sold, however I just checked their website, and it's on back order. 😞 What are your thoughts 3 years later? Still a buy?
Yes. Still a buy. I moved it to my Kamado Joe, but it still works great.

$280 from spidergrills.com. Yeah its a great way to “Treagerize” your weber!
Ok, I'm impressed.

Thanks for the review Lou. I can't wait to get mine set up next weekend!
How did it come out?
@@nestr2007 Spider 22 has been great! I don't smoke very often, maybe once every 2 weeks, but it has handled everything I've thrown at it.

@@HowToLou Thank you so much!
Very nice review this product is a really cool idea. How did the soda can grease catcher work out on the pork butt?
Did it make a mess?
Super clean! Not a drop outside the can. When it fills up or starts to smell, I will just throw it away and get a new one 😃. Very nice, actually.

Very cool!! Just may have to get one of these for my Kettle!
Wait.. so how do you clean the debris from pellets? Any charcoal that's left behind in the hopper after grilling? All I saw was a drip cup for grease.

Very ingenious device.
And to think you could have bought the New Weber GreaseFire....um....er....I mean SmokeFire. lol
not really. a smokefire is 800-1000 this set up is 380-430
@@dirtrider88 And the Recteq Bullseye is 400.00 stainless steel 22 inch pellet kettle grill. Gets to 750 deg.
i never had a grease fire in my smokefire
Hello, I bought the spider-22 and the cover of the unit was missing. Did you buy it separately or could they forget to pack it in my order?
Mine came with everything in the video, including the cover.
you were lucky I can see that they sold your spider 22 with cover to me they told me that they sell it separately for $ 60.00
I have never used my cover. I keep my spider indoors. I will sell you mine. Send me an email HowToLou@gmail.com
When I ordered mine, they were waiting on the covers to be in stock and notified me that it would be delayed. I just got my cover last week, I got the grill in November. I would recommend reaching out to Jeremiah on their webpage. He responds in minutes usually.
Cool! Do you need pellets in it to cook?
You can cook with pellets or charcoal
Would the moisture collecting on the Hopper lid cause the pellets to go bad? Does moisture build up during usage?
Good question! With the lid tightly snapped shut during use, there is no way for smoke and moisture to escape through the pellet chamber, so very little gets in. Its like trying to blow into a milk bottle. I use this thing a few times a week and have never had any moisture issues with the pellets. When pellets get wet, they crumble into sawdust. You can find them used very cheap

Shut up
I haven’t seen one yet, but i would think the problem would be ash build up in the fire pot snuffing the flame out. Could be wrong.
Any need to block the other vent holes in the bottom of the Weber?
Nope. There are three bottom vents. The spider goes in one. The grease drips out another, and the third is just open. The top vents stay open too. The spider control the temp.
How do change out the pellets? Do it comes with a pellet dump?
Yes, sorry i did not cover that. There is an ash cup at the very bottom you can dump.
@@HowToLou Thank you!
Is 8 hours the max cook time out of a full hopper?
Yeah, that’s about how long they lasted at 225.
J Rod Keep in mind the weather conditions, I’m sure in warmer weather you would likely be able to get longer cooks.
I saw another review and the guy ran with the same hopper full for 12 hours at 200.
J Rod ...Meat Cranium
In warmer weather and lower cook temp, yeah I could see that
Worth the price or just buy a Pit boss?
If you already have a weber kettle, its a great option. I am not sure I would go buy a kettle and a spider though
Can I use this with the Master Touch?
Contact spidergrills.com to be sure, but I would think so.
I dont think you can because of the ash can on the bottom.
Yes you can. It is built to attach to the ash catcher after removing the pot.
Does it got hot enough to sear a steak?
Thanks for asking. I never tried it, but just now did. Yep, its 32 degrees outside and it got up to 550 degrees. Searing temp is about 500, so no problem.
I have seared steaks on mine. They came out perfect.
