Here are my actuals for a 150hp RV-3... (but I am cheap, it is hanged, but at a private grass stip) Per Year: Liability Only Insurance: $280 Hangar: $2040 Annual: $300 My fuel is mogas $3.5/gal. So my only change to operating costs is the fuel, $24.50/hr ($3.5*7gph), so $43/hr I fly 100hrs per year... so $6920 or $69.20 per hour.
@@danieldevadas6481see Lycoming Service Instruction No. 10702. It specifies acceptable grades. There are fields with mogas pumps, but you can also look for local gas stations with non-ethanol. It's important to test your fuel for ethanol periodically. Ethanol will wreck seals and hoses.
@@danieldevadas6481 This is hardly a dumb question. Short answer... no I didn't change anything. Most low-compression engines (150hp O-320 in this case) run WAY better on unleaded pump gas. Much less lead fowling and sludge deposits in the oil. Long answer... The RV3 is an experimental homebuilt, it doesn't have STCs, as builder/pilot/owner, you are responsible for servicing with whatever fluids are appropriate. In this case, Lycoming made that easy with Service Instruction No. 1070, specifying what fuel and grade every Lycoming engine can use. Many airfields sell "MoGas" from the pump. You can check the spec to ensure it works on your engine. You can also check your local filling stations for no-ethanol fuels and grades. If you buy from a gas station, you need to periodically test the fuel for ethanol as it will wreck your seals and hoses. Also, I stabilize my fuel starting late fall through spring. 100LL is very very stable, but pump gas is only good for a couple months. Good luck!
Video request "So you want to by an AG 915/Xenon or other comparable model." Cause I kinda do and know nothing about what it costs to own an autogyro and I've learned so much from your channel. Thanks for the great content!
@@CompleteWalkaround I have a 63 Aeronca/Bellanca Champ converted from the little continental to a o 235 Lycoming. Note the fuselage is all done engine and all systems installed wired painted and running, but I still need to go through the wings. I bought a really clean little 1948 Piper Vegabond last fall and put over 30 hours on it this summer...Just purchased a Continental 85 that may get o 200 cylinders to replace the 65 that will be timing out in the next year or two. And hanging in the basement is a Peitenppol Sky Scout that still needs to be completed, It will be getting the ford power plant, because if you build a Peitenpol your not going anywhere fast anyway so you may as well be different..to be completed after I retire. Thats kinda it, I seem to also collect airplane plans.... a Minicab gy20 be cool...I need a support group.
Hey. I've been wondering about the pilatus porter for some time now. Seeing as they shipped thier last ever built airplane earlier this December (RIP cause it crashed I'm the Mediterranean) I was curious if you can do it at some point.
RV2 looks sweet!
I'd buy it.
😂
@@Donstostila me too
This is a favorite channel of mine. I always watch the videos as soon I see them released. Great job, as usual.
And now you have one of your own!
Indeed 😃
love this channel! 3 minutes of aviation goodness.
Absolutely adore that you're going down the Van's catalog!
I'm loving the overview of the Vans planes! I think the RV8 is my favourite

Sorry for the dumb question, but how do you use mogas in the RV3? Is it stock or did you have to change anything?

PZL-104 Wilga 35, I really want to see this one
It's sooo cute! 😍 And can be decorated with very fancy paintschemes, a real personal airplane. At least for the loners... 😄
Hey man can you do the aeronca champ next? 7AC
Would love to see a RV-12 video! Absolutely love this channel and hope to own an aircraft one day
Seconded. That's currently my target airplane. Rotax economy, near 4 seat performance. Fits my mission.
These are so cool! I have seen these on Barnstormers for around $25k.
Do an Aerial Ag aircraft like an AT802 or AT502
What is the cost to own a B52 ?
Never even considered owning an aircraft but hey, great vids, love watching them :)
Same here!
I own three, these videos make me want to buy another one.
@@spurgear4 that’s so cool!

If jets are just cool no matter what flying wings are next level. Shame RV1 never made it.
The RV-3 is the uber-plane!
The only thing it's missing is a tapered wing
I'm waiting for the "cost to own a reindeer powered sleigh" to drop...
Are Vans aircraft and vans shoes related?
In my case yes. They're my go to shoes and planes. Otherwise, not that I'm aware
