I see you have a lot of AKAI equipment on your channel. Is AKAI popular where you are from? I had a reel to reel player 35 to 40 years ago. I don't remember the brand though. I have a very decent 7.2 surround system with Denon receiver and Paradigm speakers. I would like to add a reel to reel deck some day.
Hi Darren. Got the same machine. When slightly cool (18C). The machine runs poorly on play. It has all elco's for feeding replaced. My Akai refurbisher and me are unable to find the problem. No noises etc. After 4 hours (!) of warming up on standby, everything is ok. Can you help? Thanks, Harry
Sounds like your next step is to strip both reel motors and capstan motors to relube the bairings. I havent done mine yet but sounds like yours may be suffering withnsone grease thats maybe gone gooey over time.
What would be a fair price for a unit in good shape? There are a few around and thinking of buying one but have limited experience with reel to reel tape recorders.
@@kerrylittle3900 Nah if that machine is running ok it is a steal for that kind of money. Looking at its little brother the RT 707 it goes for 800 euros (supposedly serviced and checked).
@@kerrylittle3900 I start crying now. Only have an Revox b77 and (soon) an Akai 630. Maybe one day I will save for an Akai 635 and higher b ut the prices are a little bit too steep for me (and there are not so many on the market here ).
i own a akai 1722 how can i change the tape speed in 19 cm per second there is no switch as in my 215 d gx also i own a sony tc530 a revox b 77 a philips 4500 and a teac tapefreak sure
dannyjaar; look for a tube of sorts under the tape head cover. That tube should fit over the capstan. That is how I can change speeds on. My Akai GX-4000D
I'm afraid you are using too much WD40 and that is not suitable for repairing any tape recorder. Beautiful Akai are fantastic tape recorders and very durable.
hi i done this to a tascam 38 it doe's take hell lot of time i can tell you the audio IC'S are better akai was pushing there luck when this was made the akai GX77 has a lot bad with the deck your deck is better than the GX77 bio transport on the GX77 is very poor i am servicing this deck at this time i am making a video on 20 audio recorders all about good and bad side of each models
hi you will not miss it i have a video on the otari DP2700 THE TASCAM 32-38they are video's like 15mim to 20mm i likely put the tascam 34 unit on soon as i can get it down stair and down the last video bit o am making a line of video's my cam has been playing up bob
Even though it didn't get mixed down the way you wanted, it sounds phenomenal. Thanks for sharing.
I had same one..the remote brought back memories! The colored controls look great..I remember a plastic cover so dust wouldn't get into the tape
Beautiful and good sounding recorder, thank you for the nice demo.
this is the lastest recorder build by akai it looks modern a digital counter i think is early 90s
Awesome video. Thank-you from NY, another new subscriber to your channel.
Great choons from the last year of great music: 1985.
Did you just stop listening to music after 1985?
That looks like a nice place........

great job, look i have d same machine can u restore
Funny to see that a GX-625 has more options the the GX 630 :D
Crosstalk between sides? (from the "other" side.) In my 625 i have problem with it and i can't fix it.
Jarek eM It's a limitation of four track domestic machines. You always hear the other side during quiet passages. It's not a fault of your machine.

£500 To £1000... Some greedy people ask £1500 on eBay...
Nick Clark I ended up buying a Pioneer RT 909 for $1500.00 Canadian dollars. Very nice deck. Probably paid to much for it but sounds great.

I must have!
3:25 There's absolutely no point in having music played on a reel-to-reel tape deck if it's not 80's sound! lol
PS. Tape is new and not sticking...
