Just a tip for your tianguis shopping. Find your favorite vendors Once they know you, you can make special requests. i.e. The chicken guy will cut the breast meat off the bone and pound them into steaks.Or -- you can tell the fruit guy to give you a papaya that will last for the week. (Too green and the first days are bitter or too ripe and it gets mushy. )

Hey guys! My wife and I always watch your videos. My question is, what about medical insurance? Right now we have a three-year plan before we move to Mexico. First stop will be Guadalajara! So your insight is highly regarded.

We are not authorities regarding insurance. We currently pay out of pocket for any issues we have. We started with insurance a few years ago, never used it and we have not gotten any to replace it yet....I am sure we will but currently we have nothing.

private clinics or dentist are very cheap if you compare it to the States, however you can buy medical insurance from the government (IMSS or Seguro Social) as a foreigner will cost you around $600 to $1000 dls. a year...yes no a typo A YEAR and even is not universal medical like Canada, it covers a whole lot, from regular check outs, medication, operations, emergencies up to Cat scans, X rays, etc. very affordable and as foreigner you can buy them more expensive than Mexicans but usually is no more than $1000 a year depending you age and existing medical conditions. You won't have a private room for yourself if you have to stay days on observations or recuperation or fancy TV or food, but very good clinics and hospitals from the government. My mom is a cancer survival twice and she went to all her treatments/medication on government hospital and she had some expenses not covered but really cheap. also include Specialty hospitals or Gynecology, child hospitals for certain health issues, sometimes you'll have to travel to another cities where those specialty hospitals are but they also part of the Medical system thru the IMSS. keep in mind that in the States if you have private insurance, they usually take you all kind of tests, MRI's, etc. to overcharge your insurance and the pharmaceuticals give kick backs to doctors to prescribe you medications that probably you don't really need, in Mexico the IMSS only send you to take a test or MRI, X rays only if the doctor really need them, they won't waste money or resources if you won't need test or use of medical apparatus because they won't charge a third party, they owned and it is included with you insurance but only if you need to take them and not for charge extras to your insurance.

Nice information, but... the area where you are living is a expensive area, is the reason you don’t have public transportation like metropolitan train, in a lot of places in Guadalajara you can find apartments very nice reasonable prices from $200 USA Dollars and up
