    Growing up in the 1970's, everybody had a record player, and everybody had Frampton Comes Alive! on display in their vinyl collections. I have countless memories of people wearing out the grooves on that record. Absolutely legendary. To this day, it's a permanent fixture on classic rock radio stations and between the guitar work and infectious groove, still holds up as well as it ever has.

  • @timdore1131
    @timdore1131 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Interesting that you made the comment about Peter's singing at the beginning of this song emulating David Bowie a little bit. Peter and Bowie went to school together, and Peter's dad Owen was a school teacher (music) and taught Bowie. They were good friends and remained friends. So much so, that when Frampton's popularity waned in the 80's Bowie reached out to him and asked him to play guitar for him on one of his big tours. Frampton credits that for helping him get out of a serious depression. That's what I call a great Friend!!!

    Harri, as good as this version is, their live version, from Frampton Comes Alive, is the absolute best. When Peter performed at that concert in New York, he had a terrible cold, and the concert was almost cancelled, but Peter didn't want to let down his fans. Turns out, in spite of his cold (or perhaps because of it) it was his best performance, ever. Every. Single. Song. One of the few examples in rock history where the live versions of those songs are actually better than the studio versions. I highly recommend you check that out.

    One of the few rockers who employed tons of jazz licks into his playing. Hybrid blues, jazz and pure rock licks. Always wished I could play like him. He could play fast stuff but never overwhelming shredding. Always tasteful and appropriate. Considering he was from Humble Pie, his progression to solo artist was a gift of smoothness and melody compared to the raw edginess of Humble Pie. Thankfully, he is still with us.

    Frampton could have retired after this album…the greatest live album ever….he was also credited with so many groups during his session work….he is still going strong….this album came out in 1975….almost fifty years ago……

    Be sure to check out Cardinal Black, an up and coming blues-rock band that just opened for Frampton on his UK farewell tour. Their lead guitar player, Chris Buck, is a powerhouse.

    Hey Harri. Thank you for playing one of the best videos ever made. I have another iconic video that I often play. He doesnt use a voice box, but a vocoder. Its Herbie Hancock and " I thought It Was You". Try to get the live version.

    I'm old enough to have purchased "Frampton Comes Alive" when it came out and watch this episode of The Midnight Special when it aired.
    If memory serves me correctly there was a radio cut of this that you missed out on so much. The album cut was around 14 minutes long.
    I miss the seventies.

    When I was growing up in the 70s I believe this album was issued when you reached puberty. 11 million albums sold in 1976.

    I own 36 Electric Guitars, I'd love to own the Gibson Les Paul Custom Peter is playing. Priceless. Most Rockers say Peter Frampton is in the Top Ten Best Guitarist Ever..... He gets a YES from me. Next from Peter should be off the "Frampton Comes Alive" album.... "Lines On My Face"..... incredible guitar parts.

    It’s a talkbox Harri, not a vocoder. Frampton is one of the three masters of the talkbox that I know. He’s the only one who uses it with a guitar though. The other two are Roger Troutman and Teddy Riley, who use it with a synth. Teddy apparently has Roger’s talkbox by the way.

    Love those occasions when he is a guest guitarist in other bands as well. I think you're apt to see him play in Ringo Starr's Allstar Band. They all seem to have a great time.
    BTW, how abt reviewing Ringo. "The No No Song "
