- New for 2023 is a prototype wooden coaster from GCI! Zambezi Zinger features a first of its kind spiral lift hill for a wooden roller coaster, plus new Infinity Flyer trains. The ride pays homage to the original Zambezi Zinger which operated at the park for 20 years, but redefines it in a way we haven't seen before!

I believe the Titan track being only on the turn around the lift is because of structural issues that made the use of wooden track more complicated on that precise spot.
They should have titan tracked the entire ride. If they do that and fix the restraint issues I think it would be a top notch small coaster
Then it wouldnt be a woodie@@beardedswordsman2901
Yup. Rode it in June on its opening weekend.
Thought it was very shaky. While not "rough" my very first thought was...."oh boy this is gonna age POORLY"
Personally I preferred not only Prowler but also Timberwolf in terms of woodies at the park.
Zambezi Zinger is a hybrid Coaster technically not a woodie so it makes sense it not being your favorite woodie
@doublerunners9058 either way its not good
@@Posirep true
I just want to say I love your channel. I always love when you and Sarah publish your vids because it brings so much joy to my life. Keep up the good work!
A family attraction with a thrill level 5 lol.
We love WoF and are really happy we got some attention but it was a bit underhwelming for us. I really don't think it's going to age well either unfortunately.
You're lucky you didn't get stuck on the break run due to maintenance with those restraints... IT SUCKS.
They absolutely dropped the ball on this one, supposedly paying homage to what used to be everyone's first rollercoaster in KC with an aggressive woodie that scared the crap out of my 17 year old daughters.... after my one and only ride my brother in law looked at me and said.... this is no family ride... I couldn't have agreed more.
@@coasterchum8289 yes I love coasters but I can't be bothered to wait in line for it. It's just... not good.
Great review as always... I was lucky to get 1 ride on it 10/21/23 and my low expectations were definitely exceeded. I'm a fatty 6' 265lb and found the seats and restraints to be kind of comfortable honestly.. you definitely feel secure but I still felt my body getting thrown around... also I don't know if I rode it on a great day or what but we rode it right after a ride on Prowler and to me it felt just a little bit slower speed wise but the airtime hills and turns on the Zinger felt tighter and steeper. I'm glad it has a little bite to it since it adds to the sense of thrill.
Am I the only one who noticed hat flying off on Skyrush 8:05? 😁
A similar wood to Epay (Epae?) is Jarrah, in Australia. It's a medium cost exotic wood that only grows in Western Australia, and is prized not only for being tough as old boots, but also it's resistance to rotting and Bugs. this is because Jarrah, unlike other woods, has a very high silicon content, giving it more in common with a rock than a plant. This also has the side effect of making it waterproof, and Fire resistant, and it turns a wonderful faded red as it ages.
I was on the Whizzer the other night, such a fun night ride through the pitch black woods.
Honestly, this looks like a fun, not too intense, yet enjoyable layout. Living in Australia, Movieworld, Seaworld and Dreamworld are my home parks that I go to one (usually Movieworld) once a week. We only have Leviathan which is a lot of fun, but I'd like to experience more wooden coasters. What are your thoughts on Apocalypse at Six Flags Magic Mountain? I'll be going there with my family soon 🎢🎢🎢
same tbh, but i’m glad we have all the new additions coming. i’m glad we have all quality coasters
I’m glad someone is finally speaking out about how bad the restraints are, after my ride of skyrush I thought nothing could be worse, but man zambezi really put skyrush a run for its money with how painful the restraints are, I also hate how hard it is to fit in the trains as a taller person, my legs are forced into an uncomfortable acute angle the entire time with a painful lapbar, making the already rough coaster imo feel even worse
The layout itself is pretty good, I just wish they would modify the hills to actually give airtime as a double up/down or something
I agree that these restraints bothered me far more than Skyrush's. Although, my experience with the seats was a little different. The front was easily the roughest row for me. It got less rough as I moved toward the back, but every row was very rough. It's crazy that a brand new GCI would be so much rougher than a 1989 Dinn in the same park. I also like InvadR far more. I'm debating either ZZ or Roar as my least favorite GCI.
For theming this ride is awesome. It’s not super thrilling but feels fun.
I enjoy touching the grass on that last turn before the sharp twist and break run.
GCI explained last IAPPA that they had to do the turn around the lifthill as steel track for stress reducing on the lifthills structure. But the CEO of GCI can explain that way better then me. So look that video up, and you get a better explanation why GCI choose to do so. The park had no choice in that section being steel.
8:05 the hat flying off lol
WoF still needs a new standout ride. As good as a new family ride is, I don’t think Zambezi is gonna draw more people to the park long term. Especially once the novelty of an old ride being reimagined wears off.
@thatwolfarrow I would argue that mamba is a worthy standout coaster for the park, in its current state that is. Now that it doesn’t use trims, it looks to give magnum level airtime in that finale in the back row. I’d check out Canobie Coaster’s new review on it, it looks like mamba’s a top 50 coaster now.
To be fair...with the way Mamba runs now...that thing is ELITE
Welp if mamba has another bad year it may get replaced, maybe we can finally get a giga but I'm sure I'm dreaming there
@@beardedswordsman2901 Another bad year? This last year is the best it has ever run
@@Posirep it was down quite a bit. The second day I went it had a maintenance guy stationed there. And was up maybe half the day at most
Hi hello this is so cool and awesome . Um i always love to go and look at the animals they are so cool and i love animals and the ride looks like so much fun um thanks for sharing have a great day or night stay safe my friend.
I have the same thoughts. I only managed to get one ride on it since it was breaking down constantly, but the restraints are definitely tight (comfortable, but tight) and it does not track well on the wood for a new coaster. If they had titan tracked the whole thing I'd like it a LOT more. Especially since they have Prowler and Timber Hawk already which are both actually quite good.
My brother and I only had one ride too. Prowler we loved. ZZ reminds me of a fusion of renegade and mystic timbers to me
I was fortunate enough to zinger on passholder preview day and one of the first things I noticed was shake, it kinda felt like the trains were too small for the track.
I rode ZZ over the summer and thought the 2nd half was a slightly rough but enjoyable. I didn't have the same restraint issues that you and others have mentioned though but I do have those restraint issues on SkyRush.
Skyrush's restraints weren't as bad but the horizontal Gs have you gripping the handles rather than having the freedom you should have with how open it should feel using just the lap bar. The ride really jerks you around, especially the turn after the first drop.
They should really adjust the trains restraint so that it doesn’t go down during the ride as much. I hope they adjust it if it really does give no airtime
Prowler is still the park's best ride.
It was a blast, completely unexpected fun
This ride is very fun at night. The back portion isn’t very lit at all, so it makes it a lot of fun to go through the rapid turns when you can’t see them as well.
3:09 Not sure if you’ve noticed this noticed this or not, but there’s also a rhino statue from Kings Dominion in that portion of the layout. It appears in various shots during this review.
When i went in early July i had a fastpass and that was the only way that i got to ride that more than twice because it had multiple downtime events. The restraint got stuck on someone and every time that happens they have to call maintenance and they have some box with batteries in it that plugs into it and releases it but they struggled to release someone for at least 30 minutes and this was right before I was going to ride it again. (Not in the same row thankfully) another time it got stuck on the spiral because they burn through so many tires on the lift(hence why it smells like someone doing a burnout). I was talking to an operator and they say on average they have a 50% downtime. Between mamba and zz the maintenance guys were busy all year. I think mamba had a maintenance guy stationed there and i rode it twice after they just got up and then the maintenance guy shut it down to change a wheel bearing.
W video as usual coaster studios
6:19 - This wasnt a choice by worlds of fun.
The decision actually came somewhat late into the coasters design from what we were told, and it was because they saw major wear on another coaster they did on a similar point in the track, They included extra steel in a few parts to prevent premature wear / reduce maintenance problems in the future.
the extra where it wraps around the lift hill (with the exception of the drop) was probably just aesthetic because they had to add it at the drop after that wraparound
As a bigger rider I had to get help fitting on the hydraulic restraints. They got me in but I didn’t like them.
Give me the old ones like on Prowler.
Wouldn’t mind seeing something like this from RMC
We were there in October for 2 days and due to it breaking down so much and restarting taking so long, we only managed to get 2 rides. Moderately fun, but not worth getting in line with how often it broke down.
I thought the ride was okay, but definitely far from being a star attraction. I really enjoy the theming and can appreciate the laterals, but I do feel like the ride would benefit from some stronger airtime moments on those hills. I also agree with your thoughts on the Titan Track - I've never been a fan of it, and the transitions you experience here are just weird. I do appreciate how the park tried to make it as similar as possible to the original Zambezi Zinger though! I didn't realize how many similarities the two versions share.
I went to Columbia to ride coasters. How do you get the funding for constantly traveling all over?
Worlds Of Fun: a Six Flags park
The only complaint I have about Zambezi Zinger II is the GCI infinity flyer trains and they crushed my nether regions, however this rides flies through its course and the spiral lift hill is so much more intimidating and I was laughing the whole time.
The restraints are no where near as terrible as Skyrush's god awful restraints. These pinch you tightly, but Skyrush is like putting your leg in a vice on the wing seats.
based on this review, a 7 seems like a high score i thought you were going to 5-6 at best, but the shot with the phone flying out on skyrush
I personally wouldn't go lower than a 6, because in my eyes, the biggest issues with the ride are fixable- thats why I went with the score that I did, because logically, once they're fixed the ride will be wayyyy more enjoyable.
Nice video! Now I wanna know; which Zambezi Zinger is better? 🤔
The turn around the lift is steel to save costs and not have to build a wood steucture around it when you already have the lift to support the turn around it.
Zambezi Zinger? More like Zambezi Stapler. I agree, the restraints and the surprising rattle are things GCI should fix soon.
8:05 FWINGG!!! Lol, keep loose articles secure!!!
Can I ask, I'm not sure if you would know the answer, but how is GCI harvesting Ipe Wood? This comes regarding sustainability, you mentioned the region it's from and the price and after looking it up it does seem there are some concerns (with it being endangered). As a thoosie, this isn't what we usually talk about, however, it's worth bringing up these questions if we want to keep seeing wood coasters being built and innovative for years to come. Been a fan since you were coasterguy14, would love to hear your thoughts
Reminder: this thing placed above Gotham City escape in the best new ride for 2023 in the golden ticket awards
These restraints feel like T3 restraints lol
ive ridden this twice. i got PLENTY of air. maybe they made it faster now?
i hated the restraints because they're so tight and bruised my thighs. a fun little fyi.... so the bottom of the first drop is pretty much in the same location of where the original Z.Z tunnel entrance was located and the original tunnel exit was roughly where the Boomerang Photo booth building sits.
Didn’t they use the original Schwarzkopf blueprints for the design? The Speedracers are more about laterals and feeling of speed than airtime.
While Zambezi is good. I do think they could've benefited from a Mack launch coaster.
Edit: They could make a launch coaster there that is a remake of Orient Express! It would have the interlocking loops, and a launch lift hill! That would be cool! But unrealistic.
You can tell how the more twisty parts are wood and the rest is steel. But at the same time, the more twisty parts are probably the rougher parts and being wood doesn't help.
It's fun and fast but it is so LOUD! I'd almost say bring earplugs when you ride this, because that clicking going up the lifthill only gets louder and more frequent like a chainsaw starting up then being cranked to full revs. Again, a fun ride but very loud with a noticeable vibration. Worth riding once, maybe twice but there are better rides just in the park.
Next they should receive the Orient Express.
Cs fun fact. Gci gave wof the titan track for free to try it
Also yes the trains cause all of the issues. @coasterstudios
I thought Zambezi Zinger was a hybrid coaster because it is classified as one on GCI’s website personally i consider it a True hybrid coaster unlike RMC coaster which question if we consider gravity group woodies why are RMC’s not considered steel coasters
Rode this twice in the back (we weren’t given the option). The restraints made it much less fun for me. It really was painful by the time we got back to the station.
Which is better? Old or new?
What's the tale of the snake in the tunnel?
Do you personally think of this coaster as a family coaster, or a extreme coaster?
Yes
It feels way too intense to be considered a family coaster, especially with how violently rough my rides have been, plus the insane sense of speed for how small and slow the ride actually is, but the lack of airtime is what’s holding it back from actually being an intense coaster for me, there are many breaks in it and it definitely doesn’t feel complete to be labeled as a bigger, more intense coaster
I do have to give the second half props layout wise, it is really whippy and feels extremely fast, just lacks airtime and has been EXTREMELY ROUGH for the 7 rides I’ve had on it
1:41 the top speed in KPH isn’t right, it’s 72,4kph if the top speed is indeed 45mph
Maybe that stronger wood can't bend as well with the twists?
Tell that to Thunderhead
@CoasterStudios Zambizi Zinger looks a lot more twisty than thunderhead especially considering how compact the twists are compared to the more drawn our elements on Thunderhead.
Honestly premier rides sky rocket 2 model trains have the worst restraint I’ve experienced, it came down and pinched so hard I was squirming in pain, skyrush was still super bad but was better than the sky rocket 2
lol did you use Skyrush footage of someone losing a hat?
Man, this sounds like a less then ideal situation
I agree it just doesn’t WoW me and WoF is my home park. Wish they would have done a Gerstlauer infinity flyer. Or have 100% titan track. I will disagree on prowler. Way to ruff and beat the crap out of my back. One ride on it and going to the chiropractor for a month!
This is NOT a family coaster. That thing whips you around violently. I’m not phased by much but this thing zooms through the track much faster than you would expect. It’s quite aggressive.
I tink the train is a bit wack, it looks very hard on a Gravity Group train and the restraints look painful
Somebody google'd the word 'hearken' before this review. 😅
8:05...
Restraints are some of the worst I’ve experienced. It also feels like they couldn’t decide what they wanted so it doesn’t do anything particularly well
Feels like a big swing and a miss from a park that really needed a new standout coaster after 14 years. Even if the ride wasn’t rough or had bad restraints, it’s still not a ride that was ever gonna draw more people to the park or cause locals to return to the park often for re-rides or even to rave about it to their local friends.
Big swing and a miss, unfortunately
Steel vengeance has a loud lift: heck yeah it's so loud you can hear it from kings island!
Zambizi zinger h as loud lift : omg it's so lond it's horrible I can't stand it
This woodie has mixed emotions
💀

💀
🗿
this rides restraints are worse than skyrush. it might have to do with the fact skyrush is a phenomenal ride so it’s not as noticeable. this ride is not very good so it’s VERY noticeable
lets just rmc every coaster since todays generation cant handle wooden coasters.
Smaller park loses again.
The ride is decent, the trains are bad, and the restraints are horrible.
