On 9/11, Police Communication Technicians were directing police officers & emergency personnel to those most desperately in need. Through their professional but calming voices on the other ends of the phone they helped save lives -- many, many lives.

As a retired dispatcher myself, these veteran dispatchers expressed the day events for us that will always be in our minds. I am so thankful that the unsung heroes are finally being recognized for the job that they do. The LIFELINE of NEW YORK CITY. Police Communication Technicians (911 Operators) are the first voice you hear and sometimes the last voice as well. Thank you again 😓

I can remember being an 10 year old boy, at home in the UK and being off due to illness, watching this tragic day unfold. I'm now 30 years old and work in my Police Force's control room and can relate to these stories of the PCTs. I honestly couldn't have more respect for not only this role but all First Responders on that day.

I can only try to imagine what it must have been like to talk to the people trapped above the fire floors; then when the towers collapsed, to know they were gone. Heartbreaking!

I commend the 911 communications because they heard the victims. They heard people hysterical and pleading for help. They heard the victims in pain and knew they couldn't get help to them yet still gave them the false hope and we Americans salute you for that. I would have done the same. I would have assured them and gave them hope too. It was such a horrific time for all involved and I can only imagine the PTSD that people felt after that.
