Thanks Memphis. Yeah, I got a take-a-way :- ) Thanks as always for your kind patience. One thing I have learned from your videos is that the the first build is never done wrong. It is only a prototype. So I now do not have to feel bad about messing up the first build. The first build was NOT the real "first one", it was only the prototype. Thanks for making me feel better about myself. Therapy from Memphis...ha ha ha

So true, especially on a new type of project. Competence requires practice. If you are doing something new, then you need to practice. In 98 Restoring Craftsman Style Rocking Chair, I spent a week practicing, after spending two weeks reading, ordering tools, and visiting an upholstering shop.
Oh, and you never "mess up" the first build!!!! You celebrate it!!!! Remember, every "mess up" you find in the prototype will not be found in the finished work. Those "mess up" are accomplishments; discoveries.
Thanks so much for commenting and watching.

On the upright one he put the slides centered on the line. On the drawers that were already built, it shows him putting the edge of the slide along the line, instead of through the center. Why?

I just watched this video and noticed that too. I got my drawer slides from Amazon from 2 different sellers. Some fit on the bottom of the drawer and some go on the sides. That's the only thing I can think of as to what the difference might be... 🤷

when the cabinet was laying on the side you used the drawn lines to center the slides, when you stacked the blocks you used the slides was not centered on the line, the bottom of the slide was now on the line...something is not adding up...lol

You have the most fool proof method of aligning drawers I have seen. It requires a little extra prep work to make the spacers, but it makes everything else go a lot quicker in the end. Do you keep these spacers on hand for your various cabinets?

Thank you Memphis. This is a perfectly presented answer to my question. I
appreciate you taking the time to address this. Now, would the drawer
member of the slide go exactly half-way up the height of the drawer?

Yes, make a marking jig that marks the exact side centerline of the drawer box. Then attach the drawer member of the slide on that line. This was the box will be exactly centered in its quarter of the cabinet.

Thank you. Now I finally have a clear understanding about placement for drawers and drawer slides. I will tackle my next project with confidence.

any American that deals in metric has to be a good person

I am an American and I don't think in metric. But metric sure makes sense if you have to do any figuring, since metric is in base 10. Thanks for watching and commenting.

i might be missing something but doesn't doing it the second way leave the drawer runners in a completely different place as they are not centred on the line. You'd end end with a much seller space on your top drawer and a much larger space on your bottom one?

    • @MemphisApplegate

Good catch. Nobody else noticed that but you, but you are still correct. Using the stacking method (the second method) I narrow the blocks down so that the center of the drawer guides end up in the right place.

@@MemphisApplegate Narrow the blocks down???? What’s that mean? So should the slides be centered down the middle of the drawn line or on the edge of it???

@@MemphisApplegate you used the same size spacers and lines as in the first example. I think the drawer slides still screw in on the center of the line. Is that correct?

Is this spaced for drawers all the same size? Must be

    • @MemphisApplegate
      @MemphisApplegate  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Yep. Just make the spacers for whatever spacing you need. I think I cover different size drawers in several other videos. Another thing I didn't talk about here was that fact that you need to subtract the width of the drawer slides from the spacers if you stack them up.
