    Her singing gives me the shivers, and makes me cry. Does anyone else love "Lake Charles"?

    This may be the most beautiful, heartbreaking song I’ve ever heard. Loving, tender and torn apart all at the same time.

    Someone I once worked with chose to end his life this week. Didn't know the man really well, but anytime it comes to this, the aching wisdom of this song slices through. Wherever you are now, my friend, may you at least be at something like peace. You mattered. For those who remain, learn to value ourselves and make all others know they have value, are needed, have a reason to be here.

    Tears fall like rain to water the eternal green field and make every color glisten like dew on the heart. Heavens not at the end of the road heaven is at the start...

    Sometimes it seems there isn’t enough to keep people wanting to keep on going with life. But man this song is one more great reason to keep on living for love.

    ...Lucinda's simple lyrics and voice make you empathically feel what it is that's good in life and why you shouldn't throw it away ... for whatever reason ... because it's the people you'll leave behind that matter ... and they, not you, will suffer...

    • @patricias5122
      @patricias5122 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are deceptively simple. Unadorned, unfussy, might be a better word. I agree, "why you shouldn't throw it away."

    Absolutely stunning. Most musicians wouldn't risk playing a song this slowly, but it works perfectly. Such a huge musical influence on me, surprised she's not more famous

    Having myself lost a young family member to depression-fueled addiction, whenever I hear this song I also think about Lucinda's song "Little Angel, Little Brother"; and also "Can't Cry Any More" by Sheryl Crow: "I've got a brother/ he's got real problems/heroin and/ there's just no stopping him tonight/ and I Can't Cry Anymore...."

    Just reading about Frank Stanford - "Long before I ever heard Stanford’s name, I grew up listening to “Sweet Old World,” the song Lucinda Williams-one of Frank’s lovers and the daughter of Fayetteville poet Miller Williams-wrote about his suicide. My mother loved the song, which she said reminded her of her brother, Robert, who shot himself when he was twenty-seven. As a girl, I would occasionally hear “Sweet Old World” being played somewhere in the house and I would walk into the kitchen and find my mother crying."

      Btw, the translation in John 5 is incorrect, where it says "has done" it should be "will do". Just a small grammar detail can do a biig difference

    Lovely. I have to say that the Gretsch deserved more viewtime than a few seconds (blink!) at the very end (5.03) Its deep sound all way through was so key to this laid-back song.

    It's a pity that the guy who commited suicide (the subject of this song) didn't hear the song before he killed himself. It might've changed his mind. Maybe. Mind you, a lot of poets seem to suffer from melancholy.

    • @patricias5122
      @patricias5122 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      A live performance will never be as pitch perfect as a CD; but there is nothing like a woman standing on the stage singing her heart out. Auto-tune will ensure no singer is ever the slightest bit off key, but if you call that better .....! Can't agree.

    I really love LW’s songs and the imagery she evokes. I also love her voice....except! In this concert especially, she annoys me no end on the last word of every phase in every single song! She goes from a full, robust sound to a breath on that damned last word, every single time!! It’s called, “coming off the voice,” and there are times when it works really well in certain songs. _BUT NOT HERE._ There’s no artistic reason for it, and it doesn’t feel authentic to me. Such a drag!!
