Something my mom would do with my nieces and nephews was smack them with a flyswatter rather than hurt her hands. One time, one of my nephews just laughed it off and said it didn't hurt through his jeans. So she turned the flyswatter around and swatted him with the metal wire handle instead. From then on, that was her go-to to keep them in line. :P

My mom would keep the paint stirrer on top of the fridge and when she’d go to get it my brother would get to it first since he’s much taller. Then we’d tease her with it and not let her use it

One of the things i vividly remember is my parents not just my mother taking the side of my younger bothers every single time EVERY SINGLE TIME. I was well trained to always ask for permission for anything and I still do for things i probably shouldn't, but im still in her house 30yrs old or not, its still her house. That being said i always the first one blamed for eating an extra cookie or some stupid thing like that while the whole time my brother usually had the crumbs literally on his face and the chocolate smeared in his teeth. Perks of being the oldest, and dont even get me started on those rules that often just went away or had "exceptions" for my younger brothers aka mom dad you got soft and hated when I called you out on it.

Aw, he cut out the part near the end where he’d call the hypothetical Part 2 “Top 10 Reasons I’m Gay”, probably because he thought it was a little insensitive, but I always thought it was funny.
Also; you should watch his video on Roommates next.

I mean why did he put my head through a wall twice? Why did he walk in and flip my bed over and walk out? Why did he throw firecrackers in my room? Why did he wake me up by swinging a hammer into the wall right above my head? Because he could lol

Some extra trivia, James mom, Janette is apparently an author and once got mad at James for cursing in one one of his videos. The swear was "oh God". Also I'm still recommending James's review of The Dark crystal but any of his videos on pets is good too

Yeah, his mom wasn’t the only one who did that lol. When me and my siblings were really, really young and didn’t have our own computers, we would have to take turns on this old desktop computer that was password protected. We would play animal jam, Minecraft, and other stuff I honestly don’t remember lol.
Edit: that was so relatable wth XD sometimes our parents would forget I was on it bc it was up in this room above the garage we called the frog room, and I’ll end up staying up all night on the computer lmao.

Honestly I didn't get that many punishments as a kid. Instead when my mom or dad were angry if I didn't clean my room or something they would give me a time limit to do it or else they would throw out everything.

My father hit me whit the belt twice, when i was around 7, it took me until i was 16 to stop Instinctivly cover ing myself up whit my arms when ever he got angry or i saw sudenly saw him next to me. When i was around 12 if i ever made him get angry enough for his whole head to turn red, he would hold me by the neck of my t-shirt, lift me up to his hight ad trow me straight down against the floor, it didn't hurt, but it was terrifying.
Whenever i got bullyied at school and i got into a fight trying to defend myself, my father would say something along the line of "people don't do things whitout a reason" and think i started the fight and my mom would be like "fighting is not the answer", "people aren't just evil", "i'm sure they have it hard at home", if you just don't react they will stop bothering you", "if you try hard enough you can make them stop", "just tell the teacher" both justyfing them and puting the blame on me, i was 8 and i remember thinking in response to my mom something like "are you stupid? This isn't a movie, that's not how the world works", "the teacher never do anything, at most they punish me for bothering them".
I remember once i puked in the midle of the clss and the teacher calles home for my mother to pick me up early and i started crying because i was afraid that my father would get angry.
I was very pround to lost control when anger, i remember my conducta got better by the time i was at the first year of highschool, my parents thought it was because i had learned some self control, but actually it was because i prefered to get bullyied at school than to start a fight that would make the teacher call my parents and have to deal whit the posible concequences of that.
To this day they wonder why is it that i never ask for help even when i clearly need it.

02:00 Haven't I heard THAT before. And look where we are. Masters education and I've got NOTHING. All at forced attention on schoolwork at every turn and ending up with me graduating uni much earlier than most and it HAS AMOUNTED TO NOTHING.
    02:10 Congratulations?...
02:15 If you asked me since I was 10 if my mother was a good mother, you'd get a "no". And that answer hasn't changed to this day.
02:54 Unless she manages to screw it up and make arbitrary rules and punishments based on her whims...Oh man, I'm going to have a LOT to write about this episode.
04:03 I know it sounds like bias but I DID NOT DESERVE most (but I slightly hesitate to say "all") of my spankings. I was a smart and quiet kid. All you had to do was properly explain why what I was doing was wrong, and I'd stop. But noooooo. The answer was clearly, "don't tell him anything about WHY he was wrong, just tell him he was wrong and that you're embarrassed and hurt and proceed to force him to hold out his hand so that you could hit him repeatedly in anger...There is not enough time on this Earth that I could go through that I'd eventually trick myself into thinking I'd deserve that.
04:37 Oh wow, constant annoyances that they deny doing years later? Add that to the list.
06:32 Try having a mother who thought that anything animated was for children and was just a stupid distraction that got in the way of schoolwork at age 10 and up. And tried to make me stop watching cartoons entirely. God what a moron.
07:33 I may still be a Christian out of my own choices but I did NOT appreciate the fact that Christian music blared nonstop on the radio in the house (when it wasn't playing news) for YEARS and my mother and aunt took me wanting to change it as indication that I was taking my beliefs lightly and got on my case for it. Despite those same beliefs dictating that you shouldn't cause conflict over petty issues like that. Hypocritical jerks.
Listen, forgiveness is a help that's more for you than the other person and it helps lighten the burden on your heart if you can do it...however, if the person is a constant unapologetic offender who will never ever think she's wrong, carry vitriol after you're able to leave the house and do different degrees of separation from your parents depending on what they did. They ruined your childhood. Time you're never getting back. All for their selfish ideals that they disguise as selfless ideals. Control of your life is yours now. Don't let them take more than what they'd even be arguably due. People need to experience consequences. Learn from their terrible example and don't treat kids like they're stupid and owe you blind servitude.

My brother wanted to do ballet but our mom wouldn't let him because she was afraid of what people would think if him (that he was gay, of course) and he's always resented that a little even at 26. He's always been the most self secure person I know and I wish at least a little of that had rubbed off on me growing up.
