Hey, thanks a lot for this video! I'm getting ready to do a tile mosaic project and I got it into my head that it was going to be a lot more complicated than it seems to be. It was nice to see the whole project from beginning to end, because it really shows how nicely it comes together no matter what it looks like at any individual step. What a relief - and what a lot of fun it looks like this project will be!

oh good! so glad it helps :) Yes! You can definitely alter the color of the grout. if you cannot find the color you like at your harware store. buy white or tan grout, then add some cheap acrylic paint color of your choice (buy at your local craft store). mix it well. don't add too much or it may not cure all the way. hope that helps!

They have bags of broken glass at the hobby store that is super small but comparable. The green is great for necron crystal shards. To give a glow effect dry brush a lighter green as a base with a clear drying glue and sprinkle on the broken glass:)

I loved it. So much simpler than I thought. Questions: 1. How do you put the hanging clip at the back of the piece? 2. What kind of glue do you use? and 3. Do you know the name of a good glass tile supplier in the UK? Questions out...thanks for sharing this fab video with us :)

Depending what glue or mastic you use I like to wait at least 24 hrs. Make sure the tiles are glued very well with a med to thick layer of glue. Also, it helps to keep your tiles about 1/8" close. Hope this helps!

preferably use PVA white glue, something stronger than elmers, like weldbond. for outdoor projects i love e6000 glue. it dries quick and has worked for me personally. hope that helps! :)

HobbyHotTips correction: unsanded grout doesnt mean it's ready mixed. It means it has no sand in it. It's sold in powder form just like the sanded type is- but costs much less than the ready mix tubs. ($13 vs $35)) Using the mix your self powder form allows you to mix in additives that make it waterproof once its dry. Also you can control how thick you mix it.
Spraying whole surface with vinegar is not good advice! . Vinegar dissolves the glue in grout. Damages the bond with glass. Spray it on the scrubbie and avoid the grout lines. And Wash off well right after with water. Seal the grout when its totally dry.
Note- self mix grout doesnt need vinegar to get residue off. Only premixed grout has issues with stuck on haze. Also scrubbies make tiny scratches on the glass. Use magic eraser sponge.
Tip- Use a flat piece of tile pressed down on glass pieces before glue dries to level them out with each other.

I will respond to your question if you don't mind. It is a ( Pva ) Water-based adhesive. But it is better to seal the wood plate it before glueing anything on it.

Do you ever make outdoor mosaics? I really want to do some outdoor mosaics for hanging around my flower garden but am unsure what kind of glue and grout to use as well as the base to use that would withstand the weather elements. Any suggestions?

I have made designs on a front porch on the edge of my verandah. I also made a mermaid mosaic outside under our pool shower. I just used the usual tiles & grout that you would use for indoors. The tiles have been laid for about 15 years & still look good! I also added some geckos & glass marbles bought from a cheap shop to my design & they are in perfect condition.

Yes! Any glass will work. The type from the hardware store is usually much thicker, so harder to crack. I personally prefer the glass you find at the craft store. They have stained glass, vitreous, and pebble glass that is much light and easier to grout. Hope that helps! :)
