The switch at Williams Junction leads to both the Grand Canyon RY and the BNSF Peavine to Phoenix, AZ (and Parker, splitting off at Matthie). The route through the town of williams used to be the main line and pretty much all passenger trains would pass through there but since the end of ATSF passenger service, the line that connected back with the Transcon to the west of Williams was abandoned and as a result, Amtrak stops at Williams Jct. and passengers are bussed back into Williams.
I use to have the VHS video showing the restoration and first run of Santa Fe 3751.. Nice to see her still running the rails! Last time I was at the grand canyon.. The rails had trees growing up in the middle. Sum sections had missing rails near Williams, AZ due to metal thieves
Because the trips are really expensive and hard to organize. I'm sure if there was more of a demand for these trips and more opportunity, it would run more often. That's the problem with main line steam these days though.

tommy4trains yea CSX owners are a few bad choice words but CSX actually owns C&O 614 but they want to upgrade it to natural gas and where's the fun in that I wish they would just sell it to a steam organization to restore it, it ran a decade ago if I'm not mistaken and isn't in bad condition but thanks to CSX it's sitting out in the weather slowly deteriorating

Why was it run over the A&C instead of across the ATSF (BNSF) Transcon? I mean was BNSF against it even with em having all that rescue power in-tow. On other notes I would love to a Scotty Special organized, LA to Chicago and return via Raton Pass, NM. Then maybe 30 car organized reefer same route using a long offset cupola waycar fully restored of course. we all can dream... great vid by the way thank you. watching these steamers makes me nostalgic for Tom Mix reruns and coke from a glass bottle and maybe bag of planters peanuts.

1 thing that confuses me about this visit is why didn't 3751 depart with the train at Williams, AZ til they got to the shops where the engines and some equipment stored?
Since you have a map of it maybe you would know now where does the Grand Canyon Railroad switch off compared to when the 3751 ran to Parker Arizona? I was there in 2011 and came via Amtrak SWC, I remember seeing the switch off at Williams Junction but I thought the track just ran from Williams Junction to the Grand Canyon Village.

Fun fact: The GCR tried to acquire sister 4-8-4 #3759 which was (and still is) on display in Kingman AZ for operation on the GCR but the citizens Kingman voted against it.

Depends on the trip. I'd say getting a cab ride is probably always going to be the hardest to pull off. I actually did both on this particular trip.

1945 I learned a lot about this ole locomotive for AT&SF, she is a great machine as I remember.

That's a good distinction being the oldest 4-8-4 in existance, along with Union Pacific's 844 4-8-4 being the only steam locomotive never retired.

now we have J611 and Nkp 765. I believe the T-1 PRR 5550 is being built or in the works.
