    it's pretty ironic how Huxley and Orwell had opposing views on what leads us to destruction, yet they were both simultaneously right about it.

      Spin lol fair enough, in my case i wasnt even planning on trying it the night i did - and it can be detrimental if you have mental health conditions. I consider myself super lucky to have come put of that trip the way i did! So yeah i dont advocate it, the decision of trying that strong of a psychedelic/going on that kind of trip has got to come 100% from the individual imo. Its not up to me or anyone to tell another what to do with their consciousness :)

    Did LSD last summer during a dark point in my life when I lost my motivation to life, it's not for everyone and it may even break certain people, but for my taking Acid made me have dark strips often and forced me to deal with my demons and made me realize what I want in life. Whilst I’m happy, with how this affected you I have to say that no one really points out that these are issues which can(with usually more effort) be solved without it too. It feels like people say it’s the only way out, but there are always other options not to say that psychedelics are bad or anything. They are merely situational for everyone, and sometimes it should or shouldn’t be taken.

    Aldous Huxley was one of the important influences on my development - he is what inspired a life-long love of learning in me, and has led me to now become a Neuroscience PhD student studying the mind, brain, and psychedelic drugs. I wouldn't have taken this route in life if it was not for his immensely inspiring life and way of being.
    He was way ahead of his time, with an insight into things that was both extraordinarily broad and deep, from the most mundane social dynamics of the British intelligentsia, to the most profound realizations of mystics and psychonauts. Really a towering figure in the 20th century. Thank for you this video.

    substance use is as old as self-awareness. The only way to extend beyond the self is to be in a state at least somewhat removed from sobriety. It's a shame that psychedelics, the most useful medium through which one can introspect, are illegal.

    • @feartheghus

  • @flip6383
    @flip6383 4 ปีที่แล้ว +47

    Aldous Huxley truly means a lot to me, despite having died before my father was even born. His book feel like genuine self-help books, in the same vain as how he perceived LSD, a mere tool that is up to the experiencer to decide. He has helped make so much sense of both the world, my surroundings and me on a frequency I feel like no person I know in real life matches, he resonates to me on this level never seen before. What I just do not understand is how Huxley (according to google trends) is becoming less and less popular, despite being ahead of even most people of our time. I really hope more people will find out about the man and read his works, because his genuity extends way beyond that of Brave New World: think about the books he mentioned here (Perennial philosophy, Island, Brave New World revisited) but also 'Ends and Means; and 'Heaven and Hell' (not to be confused with the 'between heaven & hell).
    There's just so much to learn from this guy, and if I had a single wish it would be seeing his reaction to the modern world and hearing his take on it. I think even he would be astonished at just how accurate his claims have really become, throughout reading the biggest works of his, I've only stumbled upon a single thing that didn't come out to be true, and it was so minor I don't even remember what it was.

    I can't help but disagree with most of what Aldous says. To me, taking psychedelics for introspection or experiencing "spiritual" events is equivalent to fooling your sober self, the fundamental flaw for me is the belief that psychedelics open the mind instead of shrouding and confusing it.
    And sure use of psychedelics could have positive consequences initially, but I personally hold to the belief that telling yourself falsehoods or perpetuating societal falshoods can only lead to negative situations somewhere down the line.

    • @Capoz98
      @Capoz98 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't feel that it is quite the same as telling yourself falsehoods and fooling your sober mind, but more as encouraging your mind to think in different ways. Having the opportunity to experience these alternative perspectives, at least in my opinion, doesn't diminish ones understanding while in a sober state. Even with the occasional psychedelic use we still primarily see the world from a sober perspective and I believe having the opportunity to change up this perspective is valuable.
      Furthermore I think that psychedelic use can lead to a greater understanding that the mind is truly complex and can operate very differently in other people or under different circumstances, at least that is how I feel.

    Sgt. Pepper’s also has represented Simon Rodia, the Italian steel worker who single handedly built The Watts Towers and has been compared to Gaudi. He built the towers on the property that his house sat on, and after completing the work gave the keys to his neighbor and disappeared. The City of Los Angeles eventually received the towers, and concerned they were a public risk attempted to tear them down. But they proved too strong to easily demolish. The towers are today in the middle of the Hood® of South Central LA. Since Rodia was single, he could be said to deserve to be on the album cover more than Huxley, who was married…

    I would argue that talking about the love for the nation, instead of the global society or state, is inaccurate inside of the book's world, as these notions that I have mentioned are the ones used in the own book. In the book local ethnicity, langauge and culture have been vanished, thus this world lies in the destruction of clasic nations. Sorry for getting so long for such a minor detail anyway.
