    I seem to be getting a lot of FD vids in my feed, probably because I subbed a couple channels recently. I have a small Pro HR I got a couple of months ago, it runs version 5.5. I don’t know if it’s just me or a newer machine or what but I haven’t experienced the fails you say have or could happen.
    I’ve used the rectangle Kemps and Great Value (Walmart brand) ice cream sandwiches. I’ve cut some into long “sticks” or in half or thirds.. but also left some completely whole… and they come out great every time. I don’t change anything, letting the FD run whatever cycle it wants to.
    I don’t know if you just like the tiny squares you make or …? I like whole sandwiches.
    I’ve also bought quart ice cream, cut them out of their packaging and then made entire slices (3x5-6 inch slabs) sliced thin, and they come out fine. I did try thick slices but they didn’t dry properly. So thin it is, but they come out great.
    Grids look interesting.

      Amazing ideas!! Thanks for sharing! The newer versions of the software and newer machines have helped with the older issues. They are a lot smarter now. I did the small squares so they would be in ready-to-eat pieces for backpacking, etc.

    • @sophossurvival
      @sophossurvival  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! No reason for putting the ice cream on its side other than that’s just how it ended up! 🤪 works fine either way as long as you don’t let it melt!

    Wondering what the shelf life of these ice cream sandwiches once so put them into a Mylar bag with a window since so hope to sell them at my farmers market and local vendor fairs.. any idea? I don’t want to make them too far in advance but of course I can’t make everything the day before either!

    So. My ice cream always explodes. What am I doing wrong? When do I turn the pump on? I'm brand new and so confused. Do I not turn the pump on at all and it will turn on in it's own? I was closing the valve and hitting the button to turn the pump on. Should I not do that?

    • @sophossurvival
      @sophossurvival  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You should never have to turn your pump on or off. It plugs into the back of your freeze dryer and always stays in the ON position - the machine will tell the pump when to turn on and off. It should only turn on once everything inside is frozen rock solid. That’s where your problem is, the pump is turning on before everything is super frozen (-20 degrees or so)

    We tried the Fat Boys and cut them into 4 sections. We added 8 extra hours of dry time. They all seemed great but after 12 hours in a vacuumed sealed jar they lost 1/2 their volume and were soft. So disappointing. Don't know what we did wrong. It's raining today could that be an issue? We have it in our house in air conditioning, latest software. Any tips welcome.

      I've got a couple of these for my freeze dryers, they are awesome! Be sure to pick the size deep enough for your machine and wide enough to give you the space you need/want for staging your trays.

    Also, you don't have to put space between them. Just pick up the whole sandwich pieces and place on the tray. Goes much fast and same end result. 🙂

    I’ve only did ice cream sandwiches one time I don’t remember what setting I did. I thought every thing u put in the harvest right had to be custom setting. But anywho. They came out with almost no ice cream in the center. Like almost hollow. Any one know what I did wrong ?

    • @blackberryhillsbakery2241

      They probably didn’t have REAL ice cream in them. Some kind of corn syrup stuff. I tried Eskimo sandwiches and same thing. Gooey chewy stuff. But other ice cream sandwiches were fine. Crunchy!
