You can see the progress with Griffin since starting ABA- he is so much less locked inside himself. His ability to benefit from the physical intensive you just finished would be so much less without ABA. Don't listen to anyone who criticizes you and your husband for this choice. Straight ahead mama! Nice work

As someone who has had the pleasure of ABA therapy, I can say without a doubt that ABA is Abuse. I was forced to do the same repetitive tasks (for example, sweeping the floor)over and over again for weeks, sometimes months at a time, until I "did it right." I was not taught any reading or math skills and lost several grade levels. My every sentence and movement were judged to decide whether it was "autistic" or not to the point were I just stopped speaking. This abuse only stopped when my parents asked to join me for a day to observe. They very quickly pulled me out of that place. I would suggest you do the same.

I grew up undiagnosed with all my friends being diagnosed autistic and this is pretty much what I’ve heard about all special education but ABA especially. It sounded so torturous when I was young but now recently I’m hearing so much about potentially better ABA and I’m confused/concerned. I wonder if ABA is truly good sometimes or if a new generation of parents have simply adopted and rebranded it. I would love an explanation/video of what actually happens there

I think that people don’t realize that ABA has completely evolved. The ABA you experienced is absolutely not the ABA kids are experiencing today. Just like medicine and science, our understanding and treatment of certain conditions evolve with time. While you may have had a bad experience it does not mean that families currently using it are as well and it does not mean that their children are being abused.

Can you explain what goes on in ABA or potentially show us? I have heard almost exclusively negative opinions from the autistic community about ABA, including that it could be abusive and has problematic origins. I understand things may have changed or that your situation may make things different. I’m just curious as I am ND with an ND spouse and may likely have ND children one day as well, so understanding your decision is very helpful to me, just like your channel is very often helpful for me. I’m glad your son is thriving either way, thank you for sharing so much, I hope I don’t offend by asking

There is a lot of negative and positive info out there about ABA. I am a RBT and work in the feild. I really feel it depends on the BCBA yiu get assigned to with the RBT you work with. Because of what you say I personally stand very firmly with my clients and their needs and believing that all kids are allowed to enjoy Autism and all it's amazingness that comes with it and I stand by my clients and family needs to the point I have quit a position because of a bad BCBA.

Aba is teaching based on analysis you’ve done with the client. When you start you do preference assessments and find out what the client likes and what they know. You begin teaching little things mixed into play, each client is looking at different goals. Learning to communicate is the biggest one and honestly my favorite to help with. Watching kids gain their voice and be able to say what they want is incredible. We are trained to handle maladaptive behaviors in safe ways to help the client and keep them safe as well as teaching them ways to seek the need they were requesting. If that’s a sensory need, escape, hunger, etc.
It’s important to know that it is all based on the BCBAs and therapists. I’ve been an rbt for less than a year and I’m blessed to work for people who really care about the children and I’m proud of how far the clients I’ve worked with have come.

Negative comments from autistics are entirely fueled by internet rage-theorists and belief that “to be autistic is okay”. ABA seeks to reinforce socially acceptable responses to stimuli and reduce unacceptable ones and is the ONLY therapy that should be used for young autists until they can function with non disabled peers.

Many autistim advocates and groups have spoken out about how harmful ABA is. It’s essential treating children like animals to ‘train’ them not to appear autistic. Many have called it abusive and a violation of the UN Right of the Disabled Person

    • @ikeohno
      @ikeohno 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@debbiemontgomery8874 autistic people are not ignorant about our own needs. Why should we be forced to fit the mold of an allistic world and mistreated if we don't? So many autistic people leave ABA therapy traumatized and hurt. It teaches autistic people to not be autistic. You are ignorant. Listen to autistic people. Our voices matter.

@@debbiemontgomery8874 There's actually a lot of validity to what the OP said. Have you ever spent a day in an ABA therapy class? If not, you shouldn't judge someone else's opinion who ha because it makes you sound ignorant. ABA training (it's NOT therapy) leaves long lasting trauma.

She had issues really severely with bad balance and again she wasn’t able to speak at all now she just never shuts up so hope it works out for you Does wonders don’t let anyone try to put you down for putting your son through it.

ABA is amazing. I use to work at an ABA “school” and seeing the progress is so amazing. I was there for 6 years and I loved my one on one child. It was never a job for any of us there. We loved our kiddos and seeing one struggle for so long and then one day surprise you meant everything. Unfortunately I had to move and leaving was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Griffin is so amazing and I love watching everything you post. I love seeing all the things you do to make sure he’s included in everything too. It makes me miss all the kids I spent those 6 years with. Thanks for sharing your journey 🫶🏼

I hope ABA works for you. They wanted my son in it for a minimum of something like twenty plus hours a week Then she wanted ot and speech on top of that. I was like when does my kid get to be a kid and play. How does he go to school plus all this therapy. After looking into ABA alot we opred not to do it. It just did not feel right for our child. Nothing made me feel good inside about sending my son there. In the end i think you have to do you but I am just not a fan of ABA. Good luck griffin you will find a good place soon.

Because, it is assumed that children with disabilities such as dyspraxia, dysphagia, and autism don't have the ability to learn. It is seen as a better use of their time to try and learn to fit and follow orders rather than learning things like reading and arithmetic.

      To educate new/newer viewers
To remind repeat viewers (sometimes kids look so similar, it's hard to remember which is which when you're flicking through shorts and seeing tiny clips of 1,000 different families!)
To avoid often repeated questions like 'what's wrong with him?'
I'm sure there are more reasons.
