    The new Ruger SFAR is an interesting AR10. The SFAR is a short frame autoloading rifle that's based on the AR10 but has a number of impressive changes. The Ruger SFAR is extremely affordable compared to competitive products but few have the same features.

      I've got 250 or so through mine. Only malfunction was when I was messing with gas settings. The last 75 rounds have been suppressed. Accuracy is around 1.5 MOA with most hunting loads I've tried, but that's 3 shot groups. A few loads were under 1" at 100yds. I haven't tried any match loads as I just intend to use it for hunting.

    So, I bought a POF Revolution in 2018. Could not get through a 20 round mag w/o FTF. Two trips to POF (they're local) and they still could not get it to run. Accuracy was so so. So, I sold it for a huge loss. I've read enough people having similar issues to stay away from them.
    In contrast, my SFAR runs right out of the box both supressed and unsupressed. I'm generally not a Ruger fan but I do not regret getting the SFAR especially since they come with an adjustable gas block and 2 stage trigger.

    its amazing that they were able to shrink the AR10 action like that. I guess its a testament to modern metallurgy, engineering and manufacturing. Very cool.

    • @stevenlewis6781
      @stevenlewis6781 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes it is. This rifle is a spin-off of the POF Revolution but that's not a bad thing. Many of the comments are about how these things won't be reliable or durable because the bolt is the same size as a 5.56 bolt. It's pretty safe to assume that metallurgy has advanced a great deal in 60 years. Almost all the bolt failures people read about are when they milled out a mil-spec bolt for something like a 6.5 Grendel.

    Got an SFAR recently and put 80 rounds through it on the first range trip. The charging handle was suuuper gritty when I picked it up from my LGS, after a cleaning and those first 80 rounds it smoothed out a lot. Expecting it to only get better. I put 74 rounds of PMC X-tac 147g rounds through it and got about 2 moa with no issues, and then did 6 rounds of Federal match rounds (sierra something, 175g, good stuff) and was shooting about .7moa. Very happy! Had a couple feed issues with the match rounds but I'm certain is was mag related. This thing shoots as soft as my AK chambered in 7.62x39. I love it. Gonna use it in a multi gun match this month.

    I would like to see a comparison to the DPMS G2. I have the recon model. I ditched the heavy factory rail for a Midwest Ind. and turned down the thick barrel to .750". Those 2 mods took off 1.5 lbs. It weighs around 7 lbs. shoots sub MOA with 4 types of factory ammo. Only problem is it's not reliable with a suppressor. Bugs me since it they came with ACC suppressor adapters. BTW fun fact, it worked perfect with a RDIAS.

    • @That_Guy5575
      @That_Guy5575 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes and no, I’d say. If it takes standard AR-15 components for everything but the lower, bcg and barrel, then everything else could be swapped with standard AR-15 components, which are far far more plentiful and standardized than AR-10 components. The one minor caveat to that might be needing to drill those vent holes in the upper receiver, but other than that I don’t see why other components couldn’t be switched. Something like a carbon fiber hand guard could help lighten it even more, and throwing an A5 buffer system would help further smoothen and soften recoil, just as a couple examples.

      @@jasonlednum9856 - the ambi bolt assist levers that cross inside the triggerguard are not the ideal solution. I have them and use them but it's just not a good idea to have anything inside the trigger guard except a trigger. The PDQ is a better option but doesn't fit all rifles and requires permanent modification to the lower receiver.
      Manufacturers need to get with the damn program and provide FULL ambi controls. LWRCI, LMT, ADM, Daniel Defense on the DD5, Adam's Arms and a few others have it right. POF almost has it with their hybrid system and Knights Armanent and others atleast have an ambidextrous bolt release.
      But FULL ambi bolt controls, separate from other controls and on the side of the receiver or well forward and integral with the trigger guard are the way to do it.
      Malfunction clearance and rapid reloads are much faster and safer with full ambi bolt control.
