If you've any sort of a social life whatsoever, chances are you've been in the back of a taxi Octavia. For many others, it's been their car of choice for lugging the family, dog and everything else a household needs around.
Now, the Octavia is back in a new model and for me, it's the leap forward for the model that the Superb was some years ago. Forget what you know about the predecessors, this is an Octavia that will surprise even the most sceptical of Skoda badge snobs.

I don’t even understand why people in Europe choose Golf over an Octavia.
Cordial Greetings, it is true what you say, however the Skoda Octavia in Europe is a very sold saloon, in fact it is always within the first 5 positions of the best-selling sedans in Europe, in recent years it has occupied the first place within in its C-class segment and second or third when they mix all the sedan segments in Europe.
The Vw Golf is in the compact sports segment, the Skoda Octavia in that case competes with the Mercedes C-class, and with the Vw Passat, among others.
In most European countries, Octavia safely outsells Golf by now. But some Europeans still keep on buying VW cars because they come with an extra photograph of the founder the company, Adolf Hitler.
Have you watched the video? it is about space. a golf is a better looker I think, but value and square centimers per euro the skoda would be the better car. underneath it is the same tech, so that is no reason not to.
Here in europe, it's bigger class than golf
Golf is a VW and therefore is better to drive, made, more comfortable and has more modern equipment. It also has more cachet. The Octavia is only known as a Taxi in Bradford.
Great review. You did your home work on the car. Haven't seen any one else mention USB port on mirror casing. Great sound, video, editing. Well done.
A "Simply Clever" review Mark! Even the colour has a touch of Skoda to it. The spec is unbelievable and there's life in the diesel.
I bought a vrs Octavia a few weeks ago. First ever skoda I’ve owned & certainly won’t be the last. Great cars. Keep up the good work, from a fellow Irishman living down under. 👍
Keep an eye on your water pump they love to break
Change at 160 000km when you change a chain and its not problem!
The alternator went last week. 131,000km on the clock. Oil leaked into it. Previous Sloppy mechanic, didn’t tighten a bolt correctly! Cost me 400 pound for alternator and 150 pound to fix. European cars are expensive to maintain down under! I’m the 3rd owner, service history is 100%. Bad luck!
@@friendduck we had 3 go by 90k
@@dowdsy that's the mechanic's fault.
The best car Skoda ever made i would say
will be even better when they fix the SW bugs. But after all, I forgive them, it's a great car, I got mine since december 🥰
What about superb?
@@diuco17 No
@@aristotelisvenieratos6109 What do you mean?
@@diuco17 It's not the best car Skoda ever made.
Just bought one today and I'm grinning watching this, brilliant review, very watchable, ta
Best of luck with the new car
@@NobbyOnCars Loving it :)
Great review! I bought this exact model one year ago and I can honestly say that it has been a complete pleasure to drive. I mostly use it about town but on the occasions when I've being using it long distance I don't feel tired at the end of a long trip like I had done with previous cars. This is now my third Skoda and I have never had any problems with them, I have always found them to be very reliable. My last Skoda was an earlier Octavia model but this was just such a huge advance in driving pleasure even though there was only three years between them
I saw one at the Škoda dealership when I was getting my Citigo serviced, it looked awesome.
Great look, remind me a lot on Volvo similar lines at the back. Great job Octavia
Gorgeous car. I took one for a test drive 2 weeks ago and came back into the salesman and ordered one
Excellent. Sign me up - love that!
Can you please tell me how you did come INTO the SALESMAN?
@@destroyedsoul1791 if you need me to explain that you are badly lost 😂
The real question is, do you have it today? :)
The USB port for the dashcam just sums up Skoda's customer driven mindset, I don't see any other carmaker thinking this way. Even the last Golf didn't have struts. Great review Nobby, sound and editing spot on and understated 👍👍 This is all the car you need
Thanks dude
Great review Nobby, the reason the new octavia is soft over ramps and poor roads is the lack of a rear multi link suspension fitted even on the 150bhp versions, same with the new Leon and for that matter the new Audi A3 30 TDI
Looks amazing! And you go into good detail mate great job
Not gonna lie, seriously considering getting Octavia over a Mercedes A Class Sedan.
Let's see, as I plan one next year.
Go for a test drive. Engine choice is a bit tricky.. But even the base one is great.
I don't understand the A class Sedan, the hatchback is better looking and more useful, I get some people still see hatchbacks as less executive but that is such an old fashioned view.
@@tmsr for me it's about the aesthetics. I would never buy a hatchback or stationwagon over a sedan, regardless of the practicality. I can't bring myself to like them
What did you choose im in a similar sitiuation too
Thanks for the concise, honest review! very well presented :)
You're absolutely spot on about this hidden gem of a car.
Great down to earth review!👍👍
A truly spacious, beautifully designed vehicle with exceptional craftsmanship to be proud of. Just wish Skoda was available in South Africa. Well done on an thorough review.
Thanks for watching. Great to reach so far down from Ireland!
Definitely the honest review. Great going bro❤️
Great job done!! I enjoyed listening to this review, fairplay!!👏👍😊
What a lovely review. You've got yourself a subscriber Sir!.
Just found you by accident Nobby. Love your review style. No film flam, just how it is from the perspective of the average car buyer and their needs. This is refreshing. We don't need special effects and a "boys and their toys" style presentation, we just need clear info and that it what you provide. Great work.
Really appreciate that Clive thanks!
Great Review tell it as it is very informative.I have an automatic Vrs and really like the new look. Considering a new Vrs but this review has helped open my mind a little. 150bph 2 litre diesel sounds nice
Put this chap at Carwow. Excellent review. He has a sensible, adult attitude to what he does. Also witty, in an adult way. Not like unfunny Mat. Is he for real?
Thanks 😊
"But it is just Skoda".. those guys with these remarks reminds me those girls who are buying everpriced handbags just for the brand.. you know nothing about actual art behind all that, you are just brand buyer
im sold, these guys think of everything!
Real life honest review. Thanks for that. Just ordered this Car and cant wait to get it.
I chose the hatcback with DSG 1,5 TSI with the dynamic sportspack and Black alloy rims.
Fan from Denmark
Love the spec choice !
Hello Nobby, Just discovered your vlogs, great review, I have had 7 Skoda's in various models as i have company cars, i can't fault a single one, and their after market service is excellent also. subscribed to your channel keep them coming.
Welcome aboard!
Brilliant review love your style and congratulations on hitting 10k subscribers
Thank you so much 😀
great video, i ve seen plenty but some details i ve seen in this video never seen before!!! great work
Thank you Tasos!
Beautiful review for beautiful car ❤️❤️
Great review, thanks! You're putting a really good sales case here :)
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant review. Currently driving a 2016 Skoda Octavia. Hopefully will be getting one of these in the future. Keep up with the excellent reviews 👍👍👍
I have a 2016 estate, and my wife has just bought a 2021 Mk4. The infotainment in my car is great, but the new one is taking a lot of getting used to. They’ve removed nearly all the buttons and it’s all on the screen. Unfortunately, it’s not logical like the older ones. I think they are trying to do too much; novelty for the sake of it. The manual, as usual, is so badly written that it is little help. The Mk4 is a nice car, for sure, but I have no plans to upgrade my Mk3. I prefer it in almost every way.
YOU ARE A GENUINE PERSON THAT'S ALL I CAN SAY.
Cracking review! ''Burn the arse off ya''.... nearly choked on my tea laughing so much! Skoda are on it! Stay Safe. And Thank you.
Skoda cars a sooo underrated. Especially the last ones since 2-3 years....
Really really good car. I’ve got a mate coming to end of his finance of a Rapid saloon and the family has grown so will be pushing this onto him. Having bought a Kodiaq recently I’m jealous of all the tech but needed the 3XL size versus XL of the Octavia. Nice review 👍
I really like your reviews.
Loved your review style! Good work.
Thank you
Great review. Everyone who says “their just a VW with a Skoda badge on” don’t know what their talking about. Yes Skoda is owned by VW but they are different cars in every way. Not denying there’s some VW tech and parts non Skoda’s but they simply now a rebadged VW. My mate is a German car technician and he said they do have lots of differences under skin.
Great review, proper review, no arsing around 👍.
I've had a 131, 161 and a 191 Octavia doing 70000km a year, never have any trouble. The 191 is due to be replaced soon. Looking forward to picking up my mk4
Thanks Brian!
I'm convinced I'm getting one based on this review. Cheers bud.
Great review thump-up... you earned new subscriber keep on the good reviews...
Thank you
Superb review. Fair, accurate and clearly explained.
Thank you kindly!
Great review Mark. Great car too.
Thanks 👍🏻
spot on review, well made video, thanks
Thanks for watching!
I am going to get an Octavia. Fantastic video. I’ve just subscribed
Welcome aboard!
Nice review. Love that car!
Thanks for watching!
You got as excited as I do when I find out a car has a spare wheel. Sold me on that alone.
Mark great review..the gap between Skoda and VW/Audi has narrowed even more, if you bought an A3 all you’d hear is people saying you were mad vs. the Octavia....you’d be better off looking small premium saloons from Merc or BMW.
great video
Nice review 👍🏻
Getting 2 ltr demo model next week, can't wait. Great review
Best of luck with it
I can't wait to see the new Fabia 💕
It's the best skoda ever. Thanks dude for such amazing review I will surely purchase this car❤
Thanks for checking it out
Love your accent !!
Great video thanks super car we nearly brought one few years back . Very nice well made car .
Thanks for checking it out
Great video as always. Impressive car
Thanks! 👍
good review nobby. great car with a fantastic legacy.
Thanks! 👍
USB-C is the future so it's good they equip it with that. Most if not all phones will connect to USB-C in the other end of the cable from now on (including iPhones). Very good review though!
I wish I hadn't bought my new Astra. As soon as I've paid for it I will have a look at the Octavia 👍 great review
Fab review , (they have slightly restyled Ford Mondeo) will be looking at this for my next car.
Thanks Nobby, great and honest review, great car from Skoda would happily take over a Passat or similar ilk even though its rated in the class below. Cheers
Thanks for checking it out Bernard!
Very nice review! I can testify your findings as I actually own this new model for 3 weeks now. Ordered remotely , not test driven due to the pandemic here in Belgium. The estate version, 150ps tdi dsg in first edition trim with some extras. For daily traffic driving, family stuff and travel, this car is actually all you possibly need. It really really gives a solid, classy impression on the inside and outside. And consumption is very low as you mentioned even for a brand new engine.
A few things to notice after seeing your video: the home and menu button are on the left side of the screen, for right hand driven cars... not good.
Visibility around isn't great but I'm coming from a Renault Scenic so I guess it's getting used to it.
Standard soundsystem isn't bad actually compared to the Bose system in the Renault.
There are lots of small things that really surprised me positively on the car.
Sounds like you are happy with your choice, estate version boot 😍
@@NobbyOnCars yes, absolutely for now, can't say much on this few weeks. But in the race blue and the aero wheels it's as nice to watch as to drive 😉
Very nice review. Lovely
Thank you
Very sharp/classy looking car.
Great review too.
I’m glad of the mpg stat too. That will always mean more to me than lt/100km. I still use mpg on the Roadtrip app.
Who knew such a small bit of info would generate so many comments in favour of it! Thanks for watching
Well lt/100 km is for Europe and the rest of the world really MPG is just UK and US. And even then the gallon size is different from each other. So lt/100km is actually universally more clear.
@@CyAn-S I never said it wasn’t. I just said that mpg means more to me.
I am driving a Mk 3.5 1.4tsi DSG Octy. I must say that the car performs beyond my initial expectation over my previous Benz C180K. Punchy and good amount of tech, it is such a joy to drive.
I have this colour, only its combi. Amazing car with lots of space! I'm lovin every second of it driving it!
Which color is this, if I may ask?
Excellent review. It’s the small things that you point out that fascinates. Why doesn’t the Golf VIII get a gas bonnet strut ? It costs a lot more than the Skoda ?
Great review and love your enthusiasm. Might buy the estate.
Thanks for watching
Great review
I'm late to get to this review, as ever great and honest. Love that usb in the rear view, great idea. Another 600 and you'll be at the 10k :)
Great video! Love my 2019 Octavia and really considering the new model, but miss my Yeti :(
Do it!
Hi Nobby. That's a fine looking car and so well kitted out. I have an a6 that cost €63 grand new and has no blind spot, heads up or active cruise control, yet this does.🤔 Keep up the good work.
A lot of car for the money eh!?
lovely review! wonderful car
Thank you
I would love to watch your review of the new 1.0 Etec dsg versions of this car. Excellent review.
I own a 2017 superb estate, brilliant car, I'll be changing it for a new Octavia estate soon. Great review, I've liked and subscribed
Thanks Steven - much appreciated
How many miles did you run it too as on our fleet we have had nothing but problems with water pumps shocks gearbox on one went handles fell off etc
@@MrTangolizard I’ve had it almost 6 weeks now and over 1,000kms. Hasn’t missed a beat.
@@NobbyOnCars good to hear but 1000km you shouldn’t have any problems lol hope it gives you many more miles trouble free
@@MrTangolizard it’s a review car, not mine but 1,000kms covered from a review perspective is a lot of distance covered
Great review the only car you will even need and then some hav the mrk 2 and it feel as if it will go forever

Great review Mark, ordered Octavia last week, mechanical rear seat release 100 plus €, heated seats over €250, ambient lighting 200 plus €, none of which were standard on the Octavia Style, a lot of safety features optional also, I guess it’s VRT killing the spec on Irish cars. Still though it has what we need in a car so we went ahead and ordered.
at least they're in the hundreds in a lot of cases but yeah, you can go mad even on an Octavia right up to 40k +!!
@@NobbyOnCars absolutely Mark totally agree, for me once a car has LED headlights , Climate Control and cruise control I’m happy, we do a lot of urban and rural driving so LED Headlight are a must, especially this time of year, great to have them standard on this model had to pay for them on the previous facelift model.
Nice review 💛
Thanks for watching
Very good review
Thanks!
Great review, keep up the good work!
Been following your reviews for a while pal. Brilliant as always. Seriously considering one of these for 2022. Wad that colour the Lava Blue colour can you remember?
