  • In this video I show how to remove the door lock actuator in the passenger door of a 2003 Honda Civic EX coupe. This same process will work on other Honda models as they are very similar.

Thanks, this is the most comprehensive removal video I have seen. That said, I replaced one of these before, and now, after many years I can't for the life of me figure out how I did it with no video. I just know it was a bitc#... to do. I read one site which said that 2001 didn't have factory auto door locks, and that they were aftermarket. Uhhh, no, my 2001 Civic EX 2 dr came loaded with factory power door locks (purchased new in June of 2001). Thank you, have the door apart, but for the life of me couldn't figure out how to remove the darn thing, this will help! Your efforts in documenting this are appreciated! (be careful about breaking the plastic tabs holding the rods in, already broke one in being so careful, they are brittle. Now in the middle of a job I have to order a new one!) 😁

I'm not sure why the 2 thumbs down. This is by far the best video on this replacement. I replaced the driver's side actuator about a year ago using another video. It was ok but yours is much clearer and you aren't in a hurry like the other one I used. You kept a good pace. I need to replace the passenger side now and have bookmarked your site to use as a reference. You pause the right amount at each step so I can also pause the video to check and make sure I have things right. You get a thumbs up from me.

Thank you for the comment. As far as the power windows go, try to lube the window tracks with a spray silicone lubricant. WD-40 makes it and it's easy to apply. If that doesn't help, then the window motors might just be worn out.

For anyone having problems with the three large screws on the outside of the door, I tried:
    - Using a large fitted phillips (as suggested) and twisting like hell.
    - PB Blaster that sat for 24 hours
    - Banging the shit out of them with an impact driver (by the way, don't do this. I dented the door up a bit. Luckily you can't see it from the outside)
None of those worked. I had to drill into them, tap a screw extractor in, and twist them off by hand.

    • @Corysdiyauto

Fernando Soria-Molina - There's a small plastic clip on the end of the rod that needs to be detached first and then the rod will lift up and out of the hole that it's in. Loosen it up with some WD-40. Take a large (~1 foot) flathead screwdriver and wedge it in between the rod and latch, and pry it open. As long as you are prying the latch and rod away from each other, it will pop out without breaking.
