This man is good. I studied and taught Ed Parker's Kenpo for many years and this teacher is one of the best I have seen. With much respect. I also worked as a nightclub bouncer for seven years and quickly found out what works and what doesn't.
Excellent demonstration of the ideal phase and " Street combat / fighting phase where distance and timing play a major part in the completion of surviving an attack. Hats off - and a big kenpo salute to you, Thank you for sharing your kenpo with the world and your extended kenpo families.
I've been in Kenpo forever. Yes we do use the hip, but we usually use first our speed and fast hands in striking vital spots. We pick the vital spot we want to give all we have and that's when we torque our hips into it. We can knock guys down with say a fast combination of three or five strikes in a couple of seconds, because we're striking vital spots. If we did not hit vital spots, the fast hand combinations wouldn't work well. Now there are several ways to do five swords, depending on the instructor and how long he's been training. I'm small, 5'2" and so if I went in with the first two blocks, the left would be a block, but the right would be a hammer fist to his biceps, and then right sword strike to the side of the neck. Kenpo can be done many ways, depending on the instructor and how long he has beening doing it. In Kenpo, each person tailors the art to fit him or her. Sifu
I don't see use of all power principles in Kenpo in this clip. Unfortunately it is common to not see Marriage of gravity in Five Swords in many clips. They favor fast hands which in turn will not be as effective as it could be with the use of proper body mechanics. Huk Planas always talks about the big E for effective.
Amazed how kenpo techniques can be analyzed and adjusted into different interpretations and variations. Really no correct way it just has to be affective and work.
Mr Mills has an 8th degree who trains out of Payson Utah. Its evolved even further and we continue to evolve every day. The art is dying but the few still doing it have done great things in recent years
Hes history is a little off with not only the evolution but also the count. Lol ohand before anyone asks me how I know. Ive been training with 1st generation Ed Parker Black belts since I started in 95. The main one being Grandmaster Dennis Tosten who has been around forever. I know many stories of how kenpo evolved that has been told to me and coaborarted by other 1st Gens.
Key word in your comment is "Looks". Paul Mills teaches micro-mechanics and yes, relaxed energy. Kenpoists used relayed, simultaneous, and converged methods of power generation. At this range, the body starts the action followed by the weapons and they converge onto the target. Until you've stood in front of a good kenpoist, you will never be able to appreciate the power they are capable of. I recommend th-cam.com/video/Lk4QGrZYwZA/w-d-xo.html
It's mostly slight upper body torque, not much from hip torque at all. Losing a potential megaton of power generation this way. If I was up against a monster opponent, I would not be slapping him like this. Old school Kenpo with bigger circles and solid power principles would't fail you. Just my opinion.
There is power generation, but at speed it can be difficult to see. The key areas don't take much power at all. Did you notice how many times the artery would be stricken? Only takes one strike to the artery to knock someone out. Same one that is used in techniques like the guillotine choke. Except the choke is slow. An impact to that artery causes an involuntary reaction that causes the arteries muscles to contract at the point of impact, the constriction cuts the flow of blood to the brain. That will put your opponent to sleep very quickly.
Lol if your confident that you would knock him out at that point why continue with the technique sick of Black Belts not knowing what they talking about

Wow thanks for sharing 👍 very nice variations.
Awesome demonstration
Beautiful
Nice revision 👌👍
I love the fight application. A fine point most naysayers miss. I have been hit bt Larry Tatum and trust me...that is no joke!

slap fighting at its best
well applied is not gonna be just slaps, lol😅😅😅
Yea some of those bitch slaps can knock u out
True Ed Parker Kenpo that has evolved from the student

He lost me when he stated of the opening move (the blocks) "This is nothing". OK...
I believe he meant that the block is a wasted move
It's nothing compared to the version where the strike happens first. Also notice he's still blocking with his rear hand
I know right.... Lol

Do these Kenpo guys do any power generation work with using the hips etc? Looks like all arm energy, no weight behind the strikes. Very external.

@@Icehso140 No way was he a 6'4 280lb Army Ranger!!!!He would never be accepted into any ranger battalion at that weight! Call major BS on that.
Google shows your school to be permanently shut down. What gives? Your instruction is excellent. It would suck for you to no longer be teaching.
I go to akk and I'm a jr black belt and I'm 9 yrs old
You go Wavio! Most people will never realize how much hard work and dedication went into your accomplishment.

Nope
Utter bollocks
Yeah, sure, pal. Show up and say that after two hours.
It would only take a few seconds
@@bougeac Big talker. Don't think you could handle a whole class?
