Make sure you watch my mate Dan’s video on his lactate test at Loughborough here: th-cam.com/video/dE3SgmjeXsc/w-d-xo.html

One pharmacy company I'm familiar with is coming out with a consumer model of a glucose measurement tool that continuously measures blood glucose and displays it on an app.
Consideration is being given to modifying it to continuously measure blood lactic acid and displaying it on the app, giving real-time levels and avoiding end-of-repetition finger pricks.

the H+ ion are not from lactic acid the body does not make lactic acid just lactate the h+ is from an other source in the whole metabolic pathway.

Lactate is produced by the reduction of pyruvate by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) during glycolysis under anaerobic or aerobic conditions. Its not just an anaerobic metabolism.

58 year old getting back into cycling 21.52 for a 10 20 years ago this makes sense from my training over 35 years ago

Great video on lactate testing. Have you done a follow-up video?

Thanks!! I haven’t actually! I’m out of shape right now - so - now would be a great time to redo my lactate test at home and then again in 3 months - great shout Richard - keep your eyes open - I’ll do exactly this!!

    Thanks for sharing your video.
    That's a large jump between 200 and 225. Wouldn't LT1 in your case be closer to 200 than 225?

is there any guide on how to set up zones after I know my LT1 and LT2? All info I found is for running and it's 3-zone models, but most of us use 5-zone model. I got info from a doc after the test, but their zones are not 1-5, it's 4 zones and they are named differently from anything i've seen out there

Does lactate concentration increase directly from not being able to take in enough oxygen for aerobic metabolism?
What is it exactly that makes you run out of breath with increased intensity?

That’s a great (and complex!) question - this is worth a read: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC333329/

    Which lactate devices are best?

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Phwoar - that’s a loaded question - I have the lactate scout but getting strips (especially post Brexit) is nuts - they work out to be around £2 a strip and each test I do uses 10-14 strips… I’m looking at options at the moment - keen to find something accurate and with cheaper strips!

@@1stElement HAHA- I hear you man and thanks for the reply! Brexit has proper put us in the deep end here in the UK! The devices and strips are so cheap in EU but they are not delivering to England! The Edge device seems to be the most affordable but they are not being sold in the UK- If you buy from the US its stupid expensive but I found a Eu website, though getting the delivery means going via someone you know in the EU or Ireland to then repost or bring it over when they go home on holiday...
I see athletes using The Lactate Pro2, Lactate plus and Lactate Scout 4 which are all much more expensive than the Edge. I cant seem to differentiate between those 3 in terms of quality and accuracy but these don't need a basline test solution. Do you have the Lactate Scout 4?
There is a 2015 article which is now old but I found it insightful- its called "Reliability and Accuracy of Six Hand-Held Blood Lactate Analysers". its the only academic article on devices. Check it out if you haven't already. Cheers mate

Sad to admit I’ve read that!! I have the Lactate Scout + it’s proper old now! If you find anything worthwhile please let me know - it just seems impossible to find out much about reliability, price or even being able to get anything over here. I think Lionel Sanders uses the Pro 2? Still need more digging but the strips… dear god..!!

I have THE EDGE lactate kit from Amazon and I'm finding really inconsistent measurements...yesterday I tested lower lactic levels at 30 minutes and an hour into a zone 2 ride than at rest before the ride. @@1stElement therefore it is hard to believe ANY of the results I've gotten.
