I would recomment getting the "what mod is this from?" mod and also the recipe browser mod. In combination you can just type in the mod into the recipe browser and it will show everything craftable from the mod since the mod name is now in the item description because of "what mod is this from?". That way you can easily find out what a mod added for you to craft. Unless the confusion and trial and error is a wanted element of comedy. If that's the case, keep doing what you're doing.
