I'd always fancied a Rapier. A friend of a friend of my parents had one for sale. My parent's friend refused to give me any details of the seller because she thought the Rapier was too fast for this then eighteen year old! Rapiers were attractive cars in their day - with styling inspired by Raymond Loewy's Studebaker Silver Hawk.
Love that when the starter turning the engine sounds like it is happening in the next county! This Humber Super Snipe does not drive down the road - it 'proceeds' at a stately pace.
I passed my test in a Hillman Super Minx. I loved to drive it. Smooth and reliable. I never cared much for the Hillman Hunter it was prone to engine problems. I also had a Hillman Imp which I liked, however it was prone to engine and gearbox problems also.
I suppose whilst my interest is these old cars, the people featured interest me too. Nice people with good manners and class and like the cars probably the last time we will see this type. Reminds me of my late grandfather.... RWP
If all else fails climb into the engine bay to service your car. You could only get away with that in a Humber Super Snipe. You could build a small ship out of the steel that went into one of those.
Grew up in the 1970s, surrounded by cars from the 1960s and always felt that Rootes cars seemed a bit fuddy duddy compared to Fords, Vauxhalls and even BL/BMC cars.
Hi Cardiff333UK - do you have the first episode of this, Home James? It featured Daimlers, Armstrong Siddeleys and Bentleys I think. You've also uploaded some The Car's The Star - have you the Volvo estate or Jeep episodes? I'm looking for these episodes and having trouble.
John Peel had an unbearably flat, off key, monotone to his voice. Absolutey tuneless to listen to. Also his reading from a script was horrible...very stilted and unnatural..Crackinng bloke though apparently.
The image of the super snipe on the beach with the Victorian looking lady smiling is extremely evocative.

Never heard of the cars before but they are true British classics - sort of thing my Grandad drove in the 50s. Well done & thanks.

Luckily enough the Morris marinas all came with a complimentary bus timetable,
Just a fun video to see this thank you :). Cheers !!!!
