Montagne Blanche Mauritius has no worries, Sans Soucci is close by.

  • From the bustling heart of the town to the outlying suburbs and beyond into the sugarcane fields with its nineteen forties stopover point, there is a relaxed attitude to things. Maybe because Sans Soucci is so close, or maybe the fresh mountain air has something to do with it, but it feels right.
Starting in town, we explored the main street, with its shops and building, including the old cinema, which is for sale. Turning off into one of the numerous diagonal streets, we found roasting chickens and a new mask. After eating some grilled chicken, we headed back to the parking at the post office.
The post office has free parking and is an easy walk into the main town. It is also the old train station. Well preserved stone walls and long used and worn stains with a piece of platform jutting out of the new building. Behind is some more to explore, the part of the train station, not incorporated into the post office.
Off the Sans Soucci, it means no worries, It was an old sugar mill that stopped operating in 1946, that that is what the place looks like. A real blast from the past. It reminded us of an old pre-1930s depression gas station in the American route 66. Great old building and well-looked after.
A stop at the bridge near the medical school, it was easy to access the wall, and the views from the one side were grand, a real oasis. Then onto the real find. In a spiritual park there is a bridge, that seems out of this world, must be seen to be believed, with the shelves made from old veranda holders.
Quick stop at hotel Janat and on to the polytechnic university but we were denied access, so we had some fun, 'not' showing it. Our last stop was the irrigation channels, made to last in the 1940s and 50s. It was a long and exhausting day, but, no worries, it was great.

Thank you, Bryan and Ricki for showing my hometown. I lived there at the Dragon Snack for 25 years before moving to Canada. My sister still lives there but she retired a few years back or else, you would have tasted her fried noodles. Montagne Blanche has changed since I left. It was nice to see all these new stores. In Sans souci, it used to have a sugarcane factory way back in the 1960, re the chimney, the store and the manager's house. Now it is a dead town. All have moved to another factory in Flacq. Great job, both of you. Good time to be travelling and enjoying your time in Mauritius during Covid.

I confess that I have never been to Montagne Blanche proper. I might have travelled through on a long bus route from Quartier Militaire to Flacq. In my days there was a long way to go from QM to Flacq. You keep educating Mtians about their birthplace. Another fantastic lesson. Keep at it and many thanks.

Thanks for another great tour.I love the name Montagne Blanche. Has an echo of an Alpine connection, almost ! The cinema featured was called Queen's and I have fond memories of seeing many movies there as a teenager, travelling by bus from Quartier Militaire. You gave me such a laugh with your effort not to show the polytechnic complex ! Still that what makes your input so compelling to watch.

Hello, thanks for the memory. I was born in Sans Souci and spent my 20's there. Was a great place to live. My father used to work in the old office and looking at those footage i can clearly remember those scene. You actually do not have the right to go there and there should be a Tresspass sign just after the big bridge. Montagne blanche has change a lot but looking at the video make me wanna come back home :( thanks for that.

Hotel means restaurant or snack in Mauritius . Same like in India or Sri- Lanka . Where as in France, Hôtel can be also a townhall ( Hotel de ville ) hospital ( Hôtel-dieu ) or a manor house in a city ( Hôtel-particulier).
