  • In this video, we show a small glimpse into the process of making the new arbor. For more info on materials, here you go:
~ 4 qty. 8 ft 2x4's - pressure treated wood (we wanted our arbor to be around 6 feet tall, and wanted 2 feet to be below ground, but realistically ours is probably slightly less than 2 feet below ground. Check your local codes to see how deep your posts need to be.)
~ 2 qty. white lattice style trellises from Lowe's that I painted with the "Cafe Blue" I use for my gate.
~ I think 3 qty. 8 ft 1x2's (Pine maybe?) ~ I forget exactly what type of wood this is, but I painted it blue to match the gate and the trellis sides. You may want to do your own research on what best skinny wood to use for the top portion for your climate.
~ A roll of hardware cloth, which is basically a metallic grid similar to cattle panel, but very small squares.
Cost came out to about $90 - $100.
I plan to paint the pressure treated wood once it's dry enough. Might have to wait til next spring, because I plan to grow a vine on this trellis this year as I do here every year.
    Thanks for watching!

Looks great! I think you absolutely made the right move in switching over to this style of arbor since it really seems to add a lot of intent and beauty to the surrounding area - not that the natural one wasn't beautiful in its own regard, but the new arbor helps to establish a theme in your garden.

Aw, I'm sorry, Macey. But I do understand your reasons. The new arbor is lovely and will keep everyone (including the butterflies and chipmunks) safer. Soon it will be covered in all natural vegetation.
