I got my 06 530xi in 2013 at 121k, now its got 255k. Love this n52 255hp. just love driving it. Watching is a pleasure, Following all I can learn. I do my own work, except tires. I did plugs, coils, water pump, thermostat, belt & tensioner broken bolt, (had to drill) coolant temp sensor o-ring. 2 batteries, a oil filter/cooler gaskets, 3 sets of tires and half that many brakes.
Man I'm still convinced you should have like a class room full of students learning this new generation to look at the whole picture instead of what they think they know!!!!!! You are the best.
you rock doc. 4th year owning my N52. Your videos & Nathan's have showed me so much when I could only do basic maintenance on my old K20. This engine is almost as reliable at 70,000km now
Great video Dean and this explains whal happened with my N52 silver one here in Canada. I first brought it to the shop as I had leaking from the valve cover itself the tech said he literally frond a tiny hole in the back of the valve cover. Once the valve cover was removed he noticed one of the gears looking like it was coming loose. He found it so strange. Everything was re torqued correctly and new valve cover installed and no issues all but the tech just could not make sense of it. Thank you again for the informatove content
Called the dealership here in Tampa as of just the other day according to there service advisor they don't have the parts in yet nor have they mailed out service notices. In addition they haven't figured out how there gonna fix the issue and they told me to standby until further notice.
i don't understand why driving it wit a failing ESS, vanos solenoid or missfire would cause the Vanos cam gear bolts to sheer off? why would they be under any more stress?
Doc, I have n52 2011 328ix and it has misfiring on all cylinders. replaced spark plugs/ignition coil/ CKP/CSP/new battery and fuel pump. I can crank but no start. My last option is to check the cam sprocket before I salvage the car. I know BMW has a recall on this but not sur if I should take it to them.
Hi mate I've got the N43 120i 2011 I have a problem with a missfire, start fine in the morning if I pull straight off then get to a junction the revs drop to about 500 then go back to normal then I normal get a engine light pop up code p13b6 , if I turn it of and on it clears then happens a couple of days later...
Hi.. I am running into the 2A98, I replace both selenoids Oem, then clear the filters and then swap the camshaft sensor and the 2A98 is stills there. Any idea ?
The black Top valve covers are considered 2nd Generations N52 which are plastic and the PVC is incorporated or built into the cover as aposed to the grey valve covers which are Magnesium.
Hi, i a friend who own a 2011 BMW Diesel, the engine is making a loud noise as if the engine need to be replaced. I personally told him no is probably the lifter not lubricated enough but he does not believe me, what do you think might cause this sudden loud engine noise?

Is there much difference in components with the oem parts .certain components are named diff and different parts numbers .I'm looking to replace vanos moter gasket ,eccentric sensor seal ,and the alarm sensor or actuator that fits on left cabin air filter for a 2008 e60 525i n52b25. Japanese assembled . Even more of a issue is I'm in Newzealand. Any info would be helpfull . Cheers Jamie.
Bolts on the timing cover can also shear off because they're over torqued from factory in the early n52. Ask me how i know. Unreliable shit heaps but they drive good 😂
i have an e70 and this car is a nightmare. even the torque converter went it on plus i have the issues on this video. never buying a bmw again and i have all the earlier ones.
Hey Dean, very informative video, I didn’t know the N52K is the one with the black cover. The original N52 if I’m not mistaken has the silver cover? & BTW does the N52 engine with the silver cover have the Vanos Gear like You mentioned in the video?

It was the recall for those bolts, all you have to do, is send your vehicle to BMW dealer for repairs, it's absolutely free of any charges.
Except that the $1 replacement bolts are not avaiable anywhere.
They even do your oil pan gasket on bolt recall

Yup seen that before on an N52 F10 523i in the shop. BMW haven’t fixed it by the last run of N52s

What is the different between the grey and the black top N52,beside the broken bolts?

My N52 is making a squealing noise from time to time but when i turn off the engine it goes away. Any ideas?
While it's making the noice try to remove the engine oil cap. If the sound goes off then it's the valve cover
