    Hey, I just want to say I love you guys and the streams. I was wondering if I could get some prayers for my wife. We found out last Thursday that cervical cancer cells were back on her cervix fot the 3rd time. She's scheduled for a total hysterectomy December 1st. It's going to make for a stressful and tight, tight holidays, but if we could get some prayers I would appreciate it. Thank you!

      The late freeze that hurt your wheat in 07 killed most of our apple crop in North Carolina.

    Praying that all continues well for the finishing of your harvest. I distinctively recall that in my youth soybean yields was stuck seemingly forever at 25 bushels per acre. Agronomist type scientist were frantically working around the clock to break the 25 BU barrier. Looking back that top yield would now be a disaster if it were still the case.

    That’s some great soybean yields! I’m hoping to get into cover crops in the next couple years. I was hoping to this year, but here it is middle of November and we haven’t had a measurable rain in well over a month!

    Our double crop soybeans with our dry conditions here in north east Kansas, we harvested 20 acres and got 57 bushels didn't pay for the seed to plant it.

    When the sun goes down, the dew comes up and the stems get tough can you still cut beans OK by slowing down? Of course by then you are ready to quit for the day but is it feasible?

      You slow down til your header starts pushing up, then your done

    • @griggsfarmsllc
      @griggsfarmsllc  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Modern Draper headers can still harvest in damp conditions somewhat effectively

    Matt, I know you said you are sitting at around 56bu/AC for cotton using initial numbers but what is normal? Is that high for your operation?
    Also, it seems that a lot is left in the field. I know the machine is tuned as much as it can be but do you know the loss per acre you see? That would be interesting to see what kind of recovery you would see if you ran through it a 2nd time in your picker. Might be interesting to see a study on that.

      It looks like a lot but that's because the left over cotton is strung out. It's only leaving 2-3% behind at most. These pickers cost $50+ per acre to run across the field so it would take 70-80 lbs per acre just to break even. There's not enough cotton out there to justify it.

      Old ex farmer here. In the early 80s I just had to prove this to myself. We had finished picking our crop and my reasoning was if the cotton re-pick would produce enough to pay custom picking rate we would re-pick. Picked a 8 acre patch(this patch looked to have the most left of any of our farm). It yielded 356 pounds total. This means that the lint yield would be roughly 100-110 pounds. This would be about 60-66 dollars. This was for the entire patch, not per acre. By the way, after the re-pick, the field was clean, no cotton left.

    Do you plant early or late 4s behind wheat or do you plant 5s?
