Well "perfectionism" was my word, not Paul's, and I made the description very quickly. But I think Toth does have a well-deserved reputation for being a perfectionist which results from him being keenly observant. Of course, I agree that seeing that an image was printed upside down is just an observation. But noticing a 5% gray behind halftones suggests the observation of someone who wants things perfect. Nevertheless, "Pope on Toth's Observational Powers" may have been better. :)
There is some of his work in DC's SHAZAM! Archives. Great stuff, and very detailed for the golden era. He put care in his art.

@@GodLovesComics Just quibbling. I wasn't criticizing the title, just trying to add a bit of nuance to Pope's statement, which was positive.
