Mad respect man. You’re not just a guy that had the cash for a ZR-1, you’re passionate about corvette history and you know your stuff. A have an 87 myself, great video!
Talk about a detailed overview of the ZR1. I was wondering if the changes started in the doors. Now I know this is true. Thank you for making this long and detailed video. Hope that ZR1 gives you many years of smiles.
I've had my 1991 ZR-1 almost 30 years now and thought I knew a lot about the differences between the two cars. Consider me 'schooled'. Well done, Amigo! (subbed). Hawk ^v^
Corvette ZR1 is a supercar of its day..beautiful design as with all Corvettes..there is no other marque thats in its continuous generations is as good looking.from 1953 to 2020...no car comes close..although most cars generations last that long.
I dont care if the new Vettes are a bit faster, these are the ultimate Corvette. Sleek, sexy, curvaceous just like an exotic sports car should. The newer Vettes are too square and upright. The late C4s were the last sexy Corvette.
@@JohnCollins-mm5dq Well, I guess if a late model Z06 runs the 1/4 in 11sec flat, and a typical early C4 runs it in 14sec, thats 21.5% faster. And are you really comparing new $100k cars to 35 year old $10k used cars? If you enjoy hatin on older Vettes, why are you watching older Vette segments?
😂 that radar detector cut out down by the base of the windshield explanation was hilarious! Garage door opener? Yeah, ok. That’s probably what was written in the owner’s manual since at the time GM couldn’t condone a device made for breaking a specific law
Thanks for the informative video. With COVID restrictions in place, I was not able to travel to Corvettes at Carlisle to see you and your wife this year as I live in Canada. I don’t know why these C4 Corvettes (standard and ZR1) are so underrated. Videos like these point out all the great engineering GM and Lotus did. It really makes me appreciate my 93 LT1 6 speed. Best regards and hope to see you next year at Corvettes at Carlisle.
If I'm not mistaken, when Chevrolet designed this car, they had designed it so that a radar detector couldn't detect it until it was within 1500-2000 feet, I could be a little wrong on that number, but pretty sure its in that range. Most vehicles are detectible much sooner than being at a distance of only 1500-2000 feet.
Wow! That was a lot of detailed info. This video should be used for training material for wanna be Vette mechanics/DIYers. Looks like Chevrolet put their best engineers into designing these cars.
REALLY good video man,,i am 60 and Live in Australia,,i spent my entire life wanting a hot 69 camaro of 68 firebird,, forget it no with prices insane. these cars are value for money, and under 35k ,, i can drive left hand drive if the car is 30 years old,, 1990,91 is fine,,next year i will but a 92,93 model,,TURQUISE,,"no red or black cars for me"
I know this is an older vid, but very informative and well done mate. I learned a lot. Can you please let me know more about the wheel and tire combo on your ZR-1? Sizes, models, brands and offsets would be great! Thanks in advance!
Great job explaining! I remember as a kid in 83 …NO NEW CORVETTES ? W t h ?? and then…n 84 WAM they came out with new design almost equivalent 2 a SPACE SHIP /UFO they were so futuristic & BAD ASS hints Chevrolet needed extra year 2 bring them out, my fav vette still 63 split window ZO6 !
Good review. Personally I always hated that the 3rd brake light on the Z was on the roof of the hatch. That makes the car look older and less sleek in my opinion. My first Vette was a 1993 base model. It was a fun car until a drunk driver drove into it head on at 55mph.
Awesome info! knew 1/2 of differences. My 1st C4 ZR1 1991 is on its way this week. (9/17/23) 9k miles on her. I sub’ed because you did a fantastic job on this. Cheers from Maine. Now how about bumpin up HP to 405 like the 92-95?!
Awesome vid, man! Thanks for sharing! The ZR1 is also physically wider too, right? I worked at "Billy Bob's Fast Expensive Cars" (used to be Corvette Country) in Jackson, NJ, on and off for several years... dunno if you've heard of them. Worked on a lot of NCRS cars there... mainly "midyears", though... it was a pretty cool experience! edit: oh yeah, we also had vin#....00001 94 or 95 ZR1 in our showroom for a while! It was yellow... Saw, and worked on, some really unique cars there, thinking back on it. miss that place sometimes!
incredibly helpful video! thank you so much!! I am actually trying to get some info for a 85 Greenwood that I have, I don't know much about it, and the original owner passed away, and his wife sold it to me, so I haven't been able to find much info on it, or if its in fact an original "Greenwood" I also own a 84 c4 manual and also an 85 c4 automatic, and this one feels nothing like it, much more aggressive, it appears to look stock, so I was hoping to know if Greenwood would do performance upgrades or if it was just a body kit? any info would help! I truly appreciate your help!! Definitely a subscriber now!! 🙌🏻
Thanks for this very through video, You mention that the difference between the 375 and 405 hp ZR-1 isn't a big deal. To get to 405 one would need to port out the engine and do some modification on the injectors, correct? Other things? General idea of investment to get this done? .
Very well done! Thank you for such a detailled video. I'm a newbie on C4 and actually never drove one. Can you tell us how much better or different does the ZR1 drives and handles compare to other C4? Is it that much faster too behind the wheel? Thanks
C4 is technically the last real corvette analog stiff steering it’s a car you truly have to drive. C5 is the beginning of corvette catering to the masses men and women alike base model is plenty quick and reliable zr1 is an animal of a car tbh it’s completely unusable in most situations
At 39:16 11 inch wheels also double as a floatation device in rainy conditions on a C4... Lol.. The wider the wheels the more those cars love to hydroplane on wet roads... Speaking as a C4 owner
Never went into production actually. As far as I know there was only one prototype (1989 model year), EX5025. Can share its Build Sheet in case anyone is interested.
I really enjoy your tutorial on the ZR1. I’ve learned a lot about the differences and I have a question. I own a 1990 corvette base model without the FX3 suspension. Is it possible for me to add this option onto my corvette that wasn’t equipped with this option?
FX3 in theory could be added, but not easily or inexpensively. Would need the control switch, complete abs system wiring from an FX3 car, and then the shocks and actuators which can be expensive. In the end while the FX3 system does offer differences in handling when operating the switch between positions, the changes are very subtitle and surely not worth the time, effort, and most important cost, to add the system to a car that did not originally have it.
Mirrock Corvette ok, thank you so much for your info. I’ll just think about it now. You’re the most knowledgeable C4 person on the planet. You should work for GM and educate them. Keep up the good work!
Basically the difference between the ZR1 and basemodel is the engine that's pretty much it except for the 90 you have some body difference but everything went the same in 91 as far as appearance.

Outstanding information, so impressive, never before I heard such vast amount of details presented with such professionalism before.
Thanks for taking the time to explain all the differences. Very helpful to someone who is trying to break into the C4 game.
Your knowledge of C4s always blows me away. Thank you!
I've had my 1991 ZR-1 almost 30 years now and thought I knew a lot about the differences between the two cars. Consider me 'schooled'. Well done, Amigo! (subbed). Hawk ^v^
Great video for a car guy who just got his first Corvette which happens to be a 94 ZR1, thanks for making this 👍👍
As a C4 Owner since early 90s , I leaned a few new stuff .
Thanks for the C4 infotainment 👍😎
I enjoyed your tutorial and I learned some things I didn't know. Thank you for your effort and time, look forward to the next one..
Only thing missing is a cold start. Very nice car and great video!
Thank you! Great video. I just purchased my first ZR1 and this was very helpful. Your company has been highly recommended all over the forum boards.
the best ZR1 review I've ever seen by far.Thank you for your time.
Great information. I bought a 1990 ZR-1 last May, always interested in learning more about these cars. Very nice machine you have. 👍👍🏁🏁
Mark is a class act. Made a few purchases from his business with absolutely no issues.
Corvette ZR1 is a supercar of its day..beautiful design as with all Corvettes..there is no other marque thats in its continuous generations is as good looking.from 1953 to 2020...no car comes close..although most cars generations last that long.
It's just wonderful to listen to such a well informed person.
Wow! I have had my ZR-1 since 2007 and I didn't know half the differences that you mentioned
Thanks.
A brilliant and in-depth video showing the differences between the ZR1 and the base model C4, thoroughly enjoyed this👍
I dont care if the new Vettes are a bit faster, these are the ultimate Corvette. Sleek, sexy, curvaceous just like an exotic sports car should. The newer Vettes are too square and upright. The late C4s were the last sexy Corvette.
It's more than a bit faster than a c4. About 4/5 hundred hp faster lol

They also angled the radiator to make the car harder to detect via radar
My 1991 ZR1 9k miles one owner is being delivered tomorrow to my house. Can’t wait!
Thanks for the informative video. With COVID restrictions in place, I was not able to travel to Corvettes at Carlisle to see you and your wife this year as I live in Canada. It blows my mind GM widened the body on the ZR1....Its not just fender flares..They widened the entire car...Thats unheard of
Love that car....I had a C5,
but that's a wicked machine....styling is incredible.

Great Video!!! I just bought me a 89 Convertable!
What size are the custom rims on the ZR1? Great looking Corvette and informative video.
Very good overview of this ZR1, thank you. I have a 1992 ZR1 also. This was helpful to me thank you.
Wow what a comprehensive wealth of knowledge! Great job!
what a sleek looking car. I see where my c6 Zr1 gets its good looks from
Amazing amount of knowledge on these cars! Very interesting to learn👍
to bad I dont have such an expert in my area :( - Greetings from Germany

Very informative video. Well spoken and extremely knowledgeable presentation. I learned a lot about the C4 ZR1, as well as about my '93 Ruby Coupe.
wow what an outstanding video. Very knowledgeable and well spoken. Thank you!
I know this is an older vid, but very informative and well done mate. I learned a lot.
Can you please let me know more about the wheel and tire combo on your ZR-1? Sizes, models, brands and offsets would be great!

That thing is clean af
I think the car looks great.. I like the way that model looks
Great tutorial the one thing I dont think you clarified was the ZR-1 still using a PROM(chip) instead of the PCM on the base from 1994-1995
The LT5 engine appearance was treading on Ferrari territory with its appearance, those intake runners,it really is a sight to behold.

I need somebody to detail my engine as good as yours is

Beautiful C4

Those wheels are awesome! What are they and size?
Still a mean af looking car! With that stance ❤️❤️❤️
what are the specs of the rims and wheels you have on the vette in the video? looks great
Fantastic video, in 94 I bought a new Z07 6 speed, how about a video on the Z07

My dream car, color N wheels...Sexy ass ride!! Enjoyed the tutorial amigo!!
I actually want it set up for cross country trips but thought it would be nice to have the HP/Tourqe, and suspension as the ZR1.
Awesome details. Great video.

My brother has a 1990 ZR1. IT'S A GREAT CAR!😊
This is fantastic! A great reference! Thank you!
The massive LT5 dual overhead cam 5.7 under the hood is what makes it a ZR-1 lol 😂
i need those wheels for my 96 or at least a gooooood clone!!
Where are those wheels from and are they 17”. I’d love some on my zr1 😎
Smooth presentation 👍 Thanks 😊
So much information. Thanks so much for this.
Great video thank you!!
Beautiful car! Where can I find wheels like your ZR1?
Great video, beautiful car.
AND in black rose??? That things is a gem
Great job! By the way the Zr1 looks shoe room new. My Zr1 looks rough in comparison with 9,000 miles on it.
Hi can you tell me the details on these wheels please! I like them!
At 39:16 11 inch wheels also double as a floatation device in rainy conditions on a C4... Lol.. The wider the wheels the more those cars love to hydroplane on wet roads... Speaking as a C4 owner
Love the tires. What are they?
Wow, great detailed information. You truly know your shit.
Looks better the third brake light on the rear spoiler than the one on the top rear.
Awesome wheels. Where can you get them?
Since that transmission has a longer input shaft like the LS stuff, will it bolt to an Gen 3 LS motor with no problem??
What kind of wheels are those and where can I buy them from?
Those are Shelby Series 1 wheels. I have them on my ZR-1 as well. Hard to find.
Look like Shelby's
Awesome info. Thank you
Was there ever a convertible ZR-1? I have seen a few online but never saw any documentation about them. Or are they just badge added C4s?
Never went into production actually. As far as I know there was only one prototype (1989 model year), EX5025. Can share its Build Sheet in case anyone is interested.
Beautiful ❤️👍
Great video.
how many inch now wheel and pcd size?
Mirrock Corvette is the best Vette Channel ! THX
This was comprehensive as fuck... i dont even have a vette but i watched it lol
this thing looks sick
Nice video.

The C4s are growing on me.
What year C4 would u recommend for the first time buyer?
94-96 with 95 being top choice. 89 if you like the earlier styling.
7:56 lol so depressed explaining that. 😂
Nice car..nice video sir
What are these wheels that are on this ZR1? Can someone tell me please? They look great!
Shelby Series 1
@@zachmiller2862 oh yes right, thank you! 👍
Great Video !!😁
good info, thanks.
No hood liner on a 92 Zr1?
