Similar to how my russian grandparents generation, those born before and during ww2, are referred to in russia as ”the fatherless generation”. Very tragic
I was born in Yorkshire in England and every village, town and city has a war memorial to the dead of world war one and two My school the equivalent of a US High School even had a memorial to the boys who died in WW1 and WW2. This is a Motörhead cover and Lemmy wrote this after seeing a programme on television about the Battle of the Somme. That too is an emotional song sung with very little accompaniment. I like reading Golden Age crime fiction which really gets going in the 1920s and 1930s and characters have been affected by WW1. Benjamin Britten in 1962 wrote his War Requiem for the opening of the new Coventry Cathedral. The medieval building having been destroyed by the Luftwaffe in WW2. The Requiem uses the Latin requiem text and poetry from Wilfred Owen who died in France on the front line seven days before the end of the war. Powerful stuff.
The line switch at the end to "and now there's nobody remembers our names" line hits a whole hell of a lot harder once you realize, for all too many of the fallen, that it's true because there was literally no one left to remember them or even to carry on the family name. The last generation for far too many families died scared and alone in the bloody fields of France. The Somme was such a singularly catastrophic scenario due to the "Pals Battalions" that meant several towns lost nearly every single man of fighting age in one fell swoop. It was a travesty that didn't just end bloodlines, it ended entire communities.
This is a cover of Motorhead 1916 the two older gentlemen you see were Micky Dee and Phil Campbell two members of Motorhead the varies soldiers and warriors were references to different Sabaton songs and the person playing the cello in the end was Tina Guo
AMAZING!! I wouldnt have known any of this but it was AWESOME and yes it does resemble past songs I have already reacted too hahaha, Thanks for watching Stick Around. 🤘🤘💯🤘🤘
You wonder "if anyone knows....." YES .... most people in this country. I'm sorry you couldn't be bothered to watch to the end - the music was still playing so to dismiss it is an insult to the original composer, Lemmy Kilmister and to Sabaton who spent a huge amount on this production.
Also at the end as a BI plane (ref to Manfred von Richthofen aka the Red Baron), B-17 and Messerschmitt BF109 *(a ref to Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown) *for Context Franz Stigler a german fighter Ace Pilot escorted the heavily damaged B-17 until it was of Danger. The Book is ,,A Higher Call" where the Story of Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown is memoralzid. Bonus Franz Stigler and Charlie Brown were best Friends in their Final years until both departed with a few months from each others passing on their New journey.
Hi there vet from another vet you will love REIGN OF TERROR from sabaton its a blast total action from the begining to the end with a great solo. Stay safe
The first soldier and Father would be great picks that are new tracks. Good to see you back and kicking ass, also sabaton history would be a fun time 👍
Thank you for returning with the content I will be dropping a video with raven deep diving where v3t Has been HAHAHA ty again 💯💯🤘🤘 I will add the song to my list 💪💪
Yes, both my great-grandfathers were at the somme; one died and the other was wounded, losing his left eye. Both were from Northern towns, but my great-grandfather who lost his eye was from Lancashire. This is another reason now when enlisting relatives are split up because they don't want a repeat of the first world war, when brothers, fathers, and sons were in the same regiment so they weren't all killed.
Good to see you reacting to Sabaton again. They did lot of amazing covers over the years, but the re-arranging if this song for Sabaton was done by Tommy and he really did an amazing job. No surprise, both Tommy and Joakim seem to be unable to make a bad cover. Please check out Father and First Soldier
A pity you skipped the credits. Besides being an excellent instrumental piece, there's actually quite a pointed message in it. One of the last lines in the song is "And no one remembers our names" and then in the credits every soldier is named, is a real soldier from history, many with their own stories from other Sabaton songs. From Leonidas to Sgt. York and all the rest
I was debating letting them run too! I always miss things in the credits lmao. And it is a powerful last line I missed too! Motörhead 1916 coming soon 1st time hearing Motörhead
My Great-Grandfather fought in WW1 at The Somme and Passchendaele, and the only thing he ever said to me about it was: "I never thought I'd see so many young boys lives wasted, why did it have to be them?"
I remember reading about this battle once. There was a platoon who were cut down in less than a minute. It happened so fast that their Lieutenant hadn't even realized. He called to his men "come on now! on your feet you cowards! would you make me go alone?" to which his Sergeant replied "they's plenty brave sir! just all fucking dead!" the only people still alive out of that whole damn platoon were the Sergeant (who was shot) the Lieutenant and two fellows at the wings who were also shot.
great reaction, Sabaton have a good idea of what war is, standing in uniform at a fellow soldiers funeral, hearing trumpet... i get tears in my eyes just thinking of it, not anything I want anyone to experience ever.
Motörheads original was pretty intense but Sabaton just raised the song to pure epicness. As a veteran myself who's been in combat more than once, hearing this song makes me tear up every time. Lost some friends, comrades, brothers back in those days and while listening to this song i see them standing before me smiling. 🥲🫡
2006-2015 Canadian Armoured Vet. Latter half as a Lieutenant. We may not be remembered in Name, but the battles we fought will be for eternity brothers.
You left out the second half of the quote :) "Why is that?" "Who goes to hell?" "Well, sinners go to hell." "Exactly, there are no innocents in hell...war, on the other hand, is full of them."
@@EllenbergW Yes I couldn't remember the lines. I know it was a back-and-forth between Hawkeye and Father Mulcahy. That part is the reasoning behind the statement, but The base "line" tells the tale even without clarification.
@@v3tReactsI love watching reactions to Sabbaton. I love that they take the time to learn and involve the history. I also love the fact that they frequently run Full Movie-like credits. I don't see that in most other videos.
The Comradery and the brotherhood that people in the military can build with their fellow soldiers is one of the many things I like about the military and I genuinely hope that everyone one day can emulate it, even if a tiny bit.
Thank you for the reaction, it's a magnificent cover. I always feel I should add this information to this video because it hits a harder then and it's a subtle thing: The "procession" comes across a beautiful ecru coloured early 20th century coupe standing in the street, apparently abandoned by it's passengers. This is the coupe *Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria* and his wife *Sophie Chotek Duchess of Hohenberg* bled to death in on June 28 1914 on a street corner in Sarajevo, setting of *The July Crisis* and all that followed. In a very real sense it's the pale horse that conquest rode in with war and pestilence and death in it's wake. It's the herald of *The Apocalypse of the Old World* and the first act of *The Seminal Tragedy.* And I feel it's also a magnificent display of the level of historical competence that Sabaton has reached by now that it's in there, uncommented and unexplained, just building on the possibility that people will recognise the impact of this obscure detail. Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
Learned about this 'cause my history teacher way back in the 1990's played the original song by Motörhead in class (shortly after the Gulf War of 1990-91) to show us what blindly believing in your leaders can cause to you, your friends, neigbours and a whole generation. Thanks to you reacting to this! Keep going and stay strong! Greetings from Germany :salute:
The Pals battalions. The English didn't learn from the American civil war about all local regiments. The characters marching are all from Sabaton songs.
I was so into the words of this song that I wasn’t in to instruments as much mention wise but yes the Cello is SINGING in this song! 💯💯 thanks for watching
300k dead for 6miles of groud comes out to 7.5inches per man. If you use the total casualty numbers for the battle it drops to just over 2inches... not that its not mind boggling enough before you break it down.
Check out the original Motörhead song and you will understand why it sounds so different. Compared to the original version this is a headbanger. The original is a funeral march basicly, with Lemmy's mourning voice singing about his fellow englishmen. It hits even harder as the great version that Sabaton did. By the way, in Europe, mostly everyone knows about this battle and other battles of WW1 wich was a man slaughtering machine like no other. Napoleonic tactics against machine guns and modern artillerie. The only tactics they knew was throwing bodies at the target, attack the line in the hope to break through. These guys were simply mowed down by machine guns in "no mans land" between the trenches.
i will have a new camera this week get ready for me and v3t to get workin. good reaction brother
Thanks Brother Weird without you!
This is why this war era was called The Lost Generation. Sabaton did very well to cover this song and give reverence to Lemmy and Motorhead.
Indeed im gonna have to react to the original and the 1st for me

You should do the animated story videos for "the first soldier" and "Lady of the dark". Those are good ones.
I will have to check my inventory of recording to #sabaton and see If I have down them if not we shall get em up quickly 💯💯🤘🤘
Woah, it's like, and there's, like, just... Wow.

React to the soviet song: swallowing dust, i feel like you would enjoy it
So glad to see you back. Looking forward to more Sabaton reactions like before🤘
Oh there will be a lot of everything! 💯💯💯💯
Never heard the song before but it is good and very powerful and emotional.
