You the man. There is no other reason to fly flight SIM than in VR. VR makes it For Realz. Sir, can you say For Realz going forward when you talk about VR experience we will make it vrial and the new way to talk about VR " For Realz"
I like flying over Los Angeles at night in a helicopter in VR. Or a Grand Caravan over Japan, put it on autopilot, go to the back seat, and stare out the window while I drink my coffee. Its amazing, we came from Pong to this.
Ya everybody says we are niche and it’s because they haven’t tried it or when they’ve seen vr it’s the low quality potato graphics. Nothing like a reasonable setup in msfs vr.
@quistador7 Yeah! It really is a super demanding title and on top of that it isn’t fully optimized or have multithreaded support. The sim really is the Crisis of our generation. Crysis is no longer the standard, it’s MSFS 2020 lol.
what I REALLY want to know is if the game is going to have support for VR controllers. the best thing about VR controls is being able to just jump right in without having to set up the joystick and configure buttons, you just control everything by pressing buttons in the cockpit and holding the yoke with your hands. how practical and natural it feels is what makes me like VtolVR so much.
I second that. VR controller support in MSFS2020 is just ok, and could be tremendously improved by allowing 2 hands actions at the same time, and be more flexible without having to lock-in on a specific button, joystick or trigger.
@@rldivide I didn't test VR controllers very much on MSFS2020, since my brother has a nice HOTAS setup. but he and a lot of people said it's really bad. I also didn't like how limited the controls are in DCS, how not all aircrafts support it. meanwhile VtolVR not just has really good control feedback but also has a fully animated avatar. since we are getting the chance to customize our own pilot, it seems like a great chance to have a VR avatar with a body that can interact with the cockpit.
A few things to note. I did not get to try VR controllers in 2024. Yes I agree, MSFS 2020 controllers are mediocre. They are so hit or miss when working an overhead panel in the B737. XP12 really did them perfectly. VTOL VR is epic and has controls perfect. I would love to see a much better controller implementation soon. This is on my VR request list to follow up on with Microsoft!
@@danilooliveira6580 What you're looking for is called PointCTRL, fingertip pointers that work magnificently in DCS but not MSFS because of the way it handles mouse input. Inventor has been trying for MS support tweaks for years. Maybe in 2024? We'll see....
agreed, i remember very unfondly waiting for VR and any level of controller support, as much as i want to immerse myself with 2024, having good VR controller support like XP will be the make or brake for me, fingers crossed
Yup and as another person had mentioned, FFR should be on launch and then DFR at a later date. I am excited! I will push for this, single image display and proper hand controls!
Thanks for addressing the DFR/Quadviews question it would be good to bottom that out. Remember its native support we need to know about like we have in DCS not some forced implementation on top of MSFS because the former yields the benefits where as the latter does not.
Thanks Jose for your input and the time you have put in to create these videos and answer questions as best as you can. (that is an MD80 tail..lol) - thanks - Kam
Here is a question - have they fixed VR interactions? MSFS VR interaction has been inferior to X-plane as it does not have the ability to interact with elements such as the flight surfaces (side stick, trim wheel, korry push buttons, overhead elements etc). With X plane all elements can be clicked or click and dragged with the controller making it fully immersive.
Good video man. These were the questions I’ve been looking for. I have a Pimax Crystal Light ordered. My G2 has been great over the past couple years. But it’s time for an upgrade. I have a monster PC I built not long ago too so I’m ready for this sim to drop!
Thanks for the positive feedback! I figured I would answer some of the repetitive questions. I will do more content similar to this talking about challenges that I think should be address for the VR community.
12:21 that’s Seneca rocks in West Virginia. I was raised 20 minutes from there I’d recognize it anywhere. Pre ordered msfs 2024 can’t wait till the 19th of November! Would be an honor to fly next to The Vr Pilot! Vr is the future and opens up to so many opportunities!
VR is as VR does. EVERYONE will have different results. There is no way to quantify it for any one person unless you have the EXACT hardware and software config as the person using it. Even then there are other factors you cannot take into account.
Thanks for the feedback, I plan to do more VTOL VR! Check out this video on VTOL if you haven't seen it yet! th-cam.com/video/ReqIWV2ij2A/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4kXmEPdOLpjzlzjK
Great content! I have a quick question. I have a great build coming next week for FS 2024 and currently have a meta-quest 2 Will that be enough or shall I pick up a 3?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the content. the Quest 2 is great, the Quest 3 is better. The immersion the Q3 brings is great but the experience the Pimax Crystal Light delivers is even better. I’d say if you got a pc with a 4070/4080 or better the Pimax Crystal Light, is a better option. I spent today flying around in the pimax Crystal light from Hawaii, to the Bahamas, to Las Vegas, to The Pacific North West, and just stunned at how amazing the PCL is. No battery, display port cable (higher visual data), much higher resolution. By again, before I got the PCL I loved the Q3, which is great for $600 but for $300 more the PCL wins! The experience is just overall more immersive with the higher quality visuals. I’ll have a special video coming next Friday talking about the PCL regarding Microsoft and MSFS 2024!
Sorry I didn't get my question in your previous video so you could talk about it but, I play MSFS20 exclusively in VR and find certain things annoying like accessing the toolbar which is basically useless for me now, it just doesn't work when assigning a button on any controller including Arrow controller. Perhaps it works using the keyboard which is hard to do with a VR headset on.... Have they made any changes to the way the toolbar is accessed? Also how have they used the EFB to support in accessibility, toolbar and other things that broke immersion in MSFS20? For example, can we now access things like ATC, weather and time settings, maps etc from the EFB? Lastly, has anything changed or do they have any plans to further develop use of the controller wands to operate plane functions? Example, easier to turn knobs, flip switches, pull levers etc? Lastly, I haven't heard many people talk about the immersion of the walking feature. I saw a shot of passengers in a cabin of a commercial flight but no one talked about it. Also did anyone look inside airports to see people walking around? Does that feature work in VR as well? For example, can I leave the cockpit to check the cabin? Thanks in advance for any answers provided.
AHh, so many questions lol. I think I did answer your comment directly actually even through it did not make this list. I remember talking about the toolbar and EFB support. and controller use. I did not look in airports, I do not know if we can leave cockpit to check the cabin. There is no 3rd person for walking around only 1st. You can see avatars in the cockpit and in photo mode. EFB and menus, not sure but I think they will make it so devs can create apps for the EFB which is cool. Check the last comment you asked, I think I answered your other questions already.
Great video! I'm glad Asobo is still prioritizing VR. However, I will stick to pancake flying until headsets get significantly smaller in size. I just hate having this huge chunk of hardware strapped to my face!
Thanks for the feedback Oliver! I agree, they need to get smaller and lighter. I’ll let you know when I get prototype VR contact lenses lol. Have you considered the Big Screen Beyond? They are compact!
I have Quest pro with eye tracking and run it in semi open config which is perfect for simming with all thos econtrols around the pit. Headset is amazing. Also got Globular Cluster comfort kit fot it. Quadviews in DCS has transformed my VR experience and performance. I talk from experience I'm a VR early adopter. I just hope that 2024 improves for real on crappy 2020 VR implementation.
Pretty sure the answer on quad views was that it would be looked and and therefore come later. Quad views is not the same as DFR. Out of the box the sim will support FFR.
I think you are right. Actually, I wrote a long comment about Quad views and Dynamic foveated rendering, fixed foveated rendering and the wrong mixing of these terms in the video. But the comment seems to be removed, at least I can not find it anymore 30 minutes after I wrote it. Oh well.. Some might not even know that Quad views works even without a eye tracking headset too if the game supports Quad views. So, one can use a Quest 3, Pico4, Reverb G2 - with Quad Views if the game support Quad views, like DCS for example. But, maybe my other comment was too long or something. As you probably know, and the content creator did not (most likely) know - Quad views is a different rendering technique for Foveated rendering where your PC renders two additional views - so instead of rendering two views which is normal for VR, one for each eye, the PC are now rendering two views per eye = 4 views - Quad... :) This can be used either with or without eye tracking - with meaning it´s dynamic, without meaning fixed. In either case, the game has to support it, like DCS.
I have not deleted any comments, if I make a mistake please feel free to correct me so I don't misinform the community! I will double check and make sure I understand the different between Quad Views, DFR, and FFR though.
@@theVRpilot Hi there, the comment I was refering to - I posted it, went to eat something, came back 30 minutes later, and - it was gone. I could not find it at least. My first reaction was that it was deleted for some reason. But I absolutely believe you when you say don't delete comments. You don't seem to be that guy who does that. So it might have been some techincal stuff going on, or that TH-cam somehow removed it. I posted a link to a website in the comment too, so maybe youtube removed it because of that? Doesn't matter really. I really like your content, and are thankful that people like you keep the rest of us informed! I know there's a lot of work to make good videos, so thank you for that. :) Keep it coming! The last year I mostly have been playing DCS, but seeing how good MSFS2024 is going to be - both graphicly and content wise, I will probably start playing that. About Quad views - that can be both DFR and FFR! I found that out when my Crystals eyetracking stopped working for some days (driver issue or something, corrected itself after a few days) and Quad views was still working. So I checked the page to the guy who programmed it, and it turned out that yes - you can use it without eye tracking (meaning also on Quest 3 and so on). But - with eye tracking, you can be much more aggresive with lowering the quality outside of your eye gaze without noticing it, thus saving even more frames per second :) DFR and FFR can be done in several ways, Quad views is one way, but the game has to support it. For the those other methods I don't think the game itself need to support it, but I also think that they might not be as effectful as Quadview. :)
Since Asobo values your input and review I am hoping you can get answers as to why popout guages stop working when in VR. If you are fully immersed it isn't a big deal but a lot of us are going mixed reality to see our cockpits using reality mixer, openkneeboard, etc. I have found on the MS Forum that the issue has been raised of why they freeze the popout instruments (said another way, they no longer update while in VR). This needs to be addressed and hoping you can find out if they will work in MSFS 2024. Thanks!
New subscriber here; Thanks for the video and answering some of the questions! I have 3 questions still not finding answers: 1) Old was only 2 channel sound only, (Shocking because All games made in the last decade have some kind of surround sound but not 2020 because it was built on an old engine based in 2015-ish, LOL!) and I have an older analog 5.1 system, (Spatial sound only works for USB connected surround systems now on newer ASUS MB's, OUCH, shame on them!) So no surround for 2020 version, can't even fake it with an outside program with a $500+ MB from ASUS!. Did you notice multichannel sound support? 2) You partially answered this but not clearly since you focused on added terrain details which is great know too: Question you did not clearly answer: Do roads going over bridges and overpasses still have it's parallel "shadow" underneath with the traffic driving down there too, or was it fixed? 3) Final question: In VR: In 2020; cockpits always shook around with rapid head movements breaking immersion. DCS finally fixed this so switching between the 2 programs the last few months is getting real annoying, LOL! So are the cockpits firmly anchored in front of you now? Thanks again for your great details sir!
Thanks for the support and welcome! 1. No, I did not experience any sense of multichannel or surround. They did provide headphones when I was in 2D but sounded like normal stereo. 2. Specially I did not see any roads passing under bridges, but I also wasn’t looking for them. I know they have worked on the algorithm to get those things and I think they did remove those weird gray ghostish roads that marked what was a road. I hated those lol. There might be areas that are improved and some still broken I suspect. We’ll have to wait and see. Flightsim.to had a bunch of coast and bridge fixes for Florida, it was so nice! 3. So my VR never shook around even with fast head movements. Not sure if this is due to a software setting , maybe a lower refresh rate or , lower fps not allowing for a smoother head movements, but overall I had a very smooth flight with no jerking or head shaking as mentioned. I did have some stutters, but as mentioned I didn’t have time to tweak. Hope that helps! Cheers !
@@theVRpilot Yes very helpful, thanks. Yes the cockpit shake could still be my locked-in 30 FPS with MR active. I only have a 3080Ti on my newer 7800X3D, (waiting on 50 series!) in DCS I can now get 60FPS with no MR and many weird blurry and shaking anomalies went away when multi-threading support came out at the beginning of the year. (Might happen with 2024 too hopefully???) Thanks again sir!
Many thanks for the video, trying to get all the strands working together is a mammoth task. Hopefully with time . Getting permission to use the various data from so many countries is always going to be problematic. The UN would struggle . Looks like a fast internet connection is going to be essential. 😂😂😂
Yup! I am surprised people get so upset that every last feature isn't implement over night. This is a huge ask and project. It is getting better daily!
Many thanks for your videos on VR these past few days they're very much appreicated, we need people like you to push MS/Asobo on VR as they've neglected the whole area massively since it's inception in December 2020. We got mediocre controller support and World Scaling bolted on months later and that's it. I still suffer from visual bugs from SU5, controller issues to do with the Mouse (when it's over toolbar screens) since SU7, performance decrease in SU14, they've been very ignorant of VR even though they repeatedly say in every Q&A "we use VR, we see VR as another platform like Xbox" - no they don't! If they did they'd fix the obvious bugs, Martials response to the Shutdown Bug in one Q&A was appalling. The very fact the simple addition of a single viewpoint on the monitor hasn't been added (something another dev for a racing simulation coded whilst he was having a coffee....) speaks volumes, the very fact they "had" a VR Team but disbanded that into the main dev team speaks volumes as well. Remeber they were never going to add VR in the first place until the community spoke up, they then said WMR Reverb G2 only which was a load of rubbish and that SteamVR "would come later", then they released it as one, they were and are still a mess when it comes to VR support. It's all well and good that VR runs in MSFS2020, but the lackluster support since 2020 is there for all to see. I hope & pray this is vastly improved for MSFS24, that bugs when reported are fixed in a timely manner not left to rot for years, that new features are added swiftly and not "yeah we'll take a note and think about". The fact that one guy on his own created OpenXR Toolkit with all it's brilliant features shows that a team at Asobo can do it as well, it'd be good if they really took VR seriously this time around. Personally I'm not holding my breath due to their past ignorance, but we'll see what happens over the next couple of years, fingers crossed they've woken up.
Thanks so much for the support and for sharing your detailed thoughts! I completely agree-while MS/Asobo made some strides with VR, the lack of consistent attention to the platform since 2020 has been frustrating. Issues like the visual bugs from SU5, controller bugs, and the overall performance drops have definitely been tough to deal with, especially when you hear the repeated claims about VR being important to them. You're absolutely right-there's so much potential for VR in Microsoft Flight Simulator, and seeing independent developers like those behind OpenXR Toolkit create such great solutions shows that Asobo has room to step up their game. Like you, I’m hoping for major improvements in MSFS 2024, and I’ll continue pushing for VR to get the attention it deserves. It’s this kind of feedback from the community that can really help drive those changes, so let’s keep the pressure on, and fingers crossed for a more immersive and "bug-free" VR experience in the future. Thanks again for watching and for being part of the conversation!
@theVRpilot I just keep thinking... "If currently in MSFS 2020 it is already necessary to have a latest generation graphics card to run VR as smoothly as possible and it is still a big challenge, external programs are needed, technologies like DLSS for example, what will it be like in MSFS 2024? Since the ideal requirements are already a 4080 which I believe is for 2D screen in 4K perhaps (they didn't specify)... In MSFS 2020 the ideal graphics card was a 2080. That's why I think there may not yet be a graphics card capable of running the new MSFS 2024 in VR on Ultra/High since there isn't one yet for MSFS 2020. Not to mention the Processor.
Would you do a setting video for the quest 3? I’ve been messing around a bunch now I have upgraded my PC and can never get a good mix of clarity and FPS, Thank you!
Great vid👍I would love to hear that MSFS 2024 has native FFB. Lots of ffb sticks and Yokes appearing now, but both for XPlane and MSFS 2020, they need proprietary «plugin» software to produce FFB which is not ideal. MSFS needs native DirectX FFB like DCS and Il2 has.
What about hand tracking, now it's supported in a lot of OpenXR implementations? I would love to be able to switch buttons and turn knobs with my hand. Having said that, I would like to also REMOVE or DISABLE certain controls that I have physical versions of so as not to accidentally touch them. Also, it would be great to hand some kind of mixed reality support, or at least better support for integrating VR panels for passthrough and being able to render to them from an external executable.
Great Question, I did not ask but I will add this on the list of things to be addressed. Mixed Reality Support might be down to the HMD / software we run but yes, if they did have a native support for VR and hand tracking this would solve many issues. I think part of the issue is how small (relatively) VR is, as time passes, as it becomes more of a training tool, I think we can see the push for that to increase from the commercial side and then for us. My opinion. Hopefully it doesn't take that long, but regardless I will inquire on it!
@@theVRpilot Appreciate that, thank you. Some developers are doing good things with passthrough and the custom panels, but there's a bug where they won't retain their position and size, and I'm not sure you can render to them from outside code. Would be great if they could fix that and allow developers more wiggle room to do cool stuff with mixed reality.
Here’s a question! Will there be a commercial version available for REAL training? A big feature is an “instructor control centre/ instructor station”, where you have the sim where the student sits and trains in and an instructor station which is another computer or iPad where the instructor can input failures or manipulate the weather.
GREAT Question. I wonder and have to believe that MS is already ahead of us and working on that. Imagine if they created a license student / school version that could be implemented in schools and for CFIs. The foundation is here. Alternatively nothing is stopping a 3rd party developer from creating this as a feature and selling it but native integration would be best.
@@theVRpilot X-Plane has always had it since X Plane 9. It would be so cool if Microsoft did it from the ground up. Could you imagine the potential? I would love to use it with my instructor whenever I do my IPCs since simulator costs where I live are getting insane. Thanks for getting back to me :)
Thanks for that. I think you are the only one talking about VR in FS2024. I expected there would be more interest in VR for such a visually stunning sim. I'm ready for it - I have one computer with FS2020 and my Reverb G2 and another waiting for FS 2024 with my Valve Index
My question would be about the shutdown bug. Will fs2024 still interrupt our plane shutdown with the logbook popup, even when we’ve checked all appropriate boxes in settings? As it is now, even though the log usually doesn’t appear, we are thrown around the cockpit, all tool panels are reset, doors and windows are closed - and yes, sometimes the log shows up for a brief instant, all while trying to power down your aircraft. The only workaround is to just close your eyes while it happens. It’s that bad. The devs, while responding to the issue, had trouble replicating it (probably because they didn’t do a flight startup to shutdown) and even claimed it was a fps issue, but DUDE, IT HAPPENS NEARLY EVERY TIME. It totally breaks immersion! 😢 It’s been going on for over two years now! We just want to have a successful flight from startup to shutdown without being interrupted! Great video btw.
That was a heck of a bug, I would say this.... since they have fixed it... Something might be going on your end. In this time, have you done a full reinstall of MSFS 2020? Unless you can bare with it for 2 more months, I would just copy your community folder. Uninstall MSFS 2020. reboot. Reinstall it over night so you don't have to watch it and see if a fresh install fixes it. But yes, it shouldn't require that but maybe that can help. Thanks for watching! Excited to get more content out there!
@@theVRpilot yeah it’s not just me though and yes, I’ve done a total re-install of msfs since they *said* they fixed it. Look up ‘engine shutdown breaks immersion in vr and non-vr’. In the FS forums - it’s very easy to replicate, and persistent . All we do is check the box in settings, for not having the logbook pop at the end of a flight. Because Asobo never really fixed it, VR users are stuck being thrown around the cockpit at shutdown. Tool panels are shut. Doors and windows are all reset - many times the logbook DOES try to pop. And then slowly everything goes back to normal. I’m sorry you aren’t knowledgeable about the bug, only because it’d be nice to have an advocate for VR users to show up at events like this and ask some hard questions. Thanks for your response though!
Is it ok for me to be running a i9 12900K w/Z690 DDR5 mobo w/32 GB 6000MHz RAM with an HP G2 on the current MSFS-2020 ? What tweaks would be documented for this exact setup? in other words, would there be some folks who have put down the recommended settings in a spreadsheet as far as the Open-VR, MSFS-2020, nVidia Control Panel, BIOS settings, Windows Settings recommendations? It would be so helpful if it was written down somewhere, it's very hard to try to follow along on a video because everyone's setups are so very very different and there's no way to be sure of settings and it takes forever to try this, that , and the other and struggle with the right settings. Probably nothing out there to what I'm speaking of, but if someone has already done the tweaking on this, it would help, otherwise I can start some matrices on things like this.
Harpoon Bakery 162, lol cool name. Also, I think your best bet is to start with a clean slate. Keep it simple. You did not mention the GPU, but I think you will be in good shape with the other specs. When the sim comes, before going down a rabbit hole of best settings, try the sim DEFAULT 2D and then VR before changing settings. Get a base for the performance and then and only then, adjust things, and consider one change at a time. Do not go crazy tweaking. Overall performance has been improved and it should be better across the board. We will have to wait for it to come out to see exactly how it uses cores and ram and what settings to really tweak for max performance.
I like it very much, I think its a great headset for the price range it falls into. I will have a video in the next few weeks on it showing my full review and tutorial on it.
@@theVRpilot Oculus Quest 2. tryed some software ( cr*d ) for changing FOV and so on, but... LOL the FOV was on 100% MAX ! changing it was only worst ( the plane become a toy :D )
Sorry Daniels, I failed to test the walking feature. I was genuinely so excited to try other stuff, I did try 2D walking around but not in VR. Time was limited not by MS but because we had so many activities. I woke up at 4AM due to the time change, went to the lobby at 630 am, and the Official MS event didn't end until 930 PM. Also I didn't go back to my hotel room until 1AM after socializing and chatting up with other content creators. It was a great event, I am planning on doing a vlog of it to share with the community.
I use a meta quest 3 with physical instrument panels, eg Saitek. Will MSFS24 offer passthrough natively (without wifi-only VirtualDesktop)? Will I be able to display the gps on an external display (eg RealSimGear) while in VR mode?
Is Q3 really your daily driver for FS2020? Why not a DP-based HMD with higher res like Aero, Crystal, BB etc? My Aero broke and I'm currently forced to use a Q3, it's a good value headset but is absolutely not ideal for sims imo.
GREAT question man, so I just put away my G2 this month. I have had the Aero, Pimax 8kX and others on loan from the companies but had to return them. Once I got the Quest 3 to run so smooth and look so clear on wifi 6, it out performed my G2 and is the best headset I have. While I have had those other headsets, I have upgraded my PC for better performance and haven't pulled the trigger on a new one. I sort of had multiple headsets to test throughout different times. My top 5 headsets would be the Somnium VR1, Pimax Crystal Light, Big Screen Beyond, Varjo Aero if I can get one sub $400 used, and then Quest 3.
@@theVRpilot Cool. Q3 is too grainy and too much compression for me for long term use, even when supersampled super high on a 4090. It's too easy to see the physical pixels too IMO, at lest when coming from an Aero. Aero was great but the VFOV is really substandard. I vowed I'd never get a Pimax, but have a Crystal Light coming now as a stopgap to the Somnium. It's such an ugly device though, I may well return it. Need some high res VR back in my life though!
Hi there @theVRpilot - any idea if the PSVR2 can work natively on pc without being a Steam version of MFS 2020? If it does, I'd assume MFS 2024 should be the same? If anyone else can assist with that question, I'm all ears! 👍
@@theVRpilot Awesome, there's surprisingly little information out there even though you expect Reddit and other places to be full of details. But I shall go so that, and thank you for noticing this message and the reply, always appreciated!
You were the only one that test a Virtual reality session I guess ? 😎 great content Jose . I have a question do we need to download the new world updates or or the ready when finished by MS and we can stream them from the cloud ?
Its streamed from the cloud, I believe the only thing stored on your hard disk is the game client itself, as well as mods from 3rd party websites. You can still download planes and parts of the world to your hard drive so you can play offline. But everything else is in the cloud, including anything you might get from the in game store. Supposedly install size is only 30gb or so, less then half the size of the initial msfs2020 release
Others did too, but I focused on it and recorded it. The world updates now just stay on the cloud lol, so when you fly over the new country, you see the custom castle and scenery and viola! no specific download. How cool is that!
@@LodewijkVrije So a big unanswered question is if you set your rolling cache to let’s say 1TB, how well will the sim perform since the data may not be written as efficiently to your SSD compared to 2020. They have not been asked any questions on what kind of stress testing has performed on 2024 for both software, network and server side.
@@JDVVV378 they have specifically mentioned increasing rolling cache size. so my assumption is they worked on improving it, otherwise they would not specifically mention it. as for the network and server side, im not sure, i do feel like i have watched a youtuber interview the devs and talk about some server side stuff. but i do not remember which youtuber it was. also yesterday there was a developer live stream for MSFS24, i have not personally watched it yet, as i just got home. but maybe some of your network questions will be answered in that.
I've spent hours trying to get DCS to run well on my Quest 3 (i7-13700K, RTX 3080), but it's always a horrendous slideshow, regardless of all the tips and tricks that others have advised. FS 2020 runs *okay* on that same setup (WAY better than DCS), but not great. Here's hoping I get better performance out of FS 2024, but it sounds like I will.
@@theVRpilot - Wired, no Virtual Desktop. I've tried both SteamVR and OculusXR as my OpenXR runtimes. To be fair, it has been almost 2 months since the last time I tried it, so I don't know if any updates have come out that would have any positive effect.
Do you think we will have to upgrade from 32GB to 64GB Ram if you're already running a high end cpu and GPU (like 4090/4080 with 14900k) to get good performance in VR?
Tim, I do NOT think so, but I think you SHOULD! I have a 12900k/ 4090 / 32gb DDR5. I don't think I need more ram for the best performance, but you bet I WANT the best performance and if that means to double my ram for a few extra FPS and better overhead, you bet I will lol. Especially if you have a top tier PC. Why not?
I play FS on the Xbox series X and I'm thinking about buying the Meta Quest 3. Do you know if it works with both FS 2020 and 2024 (in combination with the xbox) Thanks Mate!
First we now have full EFB and ATC will now better handle our Flight Plans and sequence and AI traffic has been modeled and improved. they said 90% of all major aircraft and about 25% of the major liveries. Again, 25% IS A LOT! When I asked about ATC they said they have improved on it but we don't have a perfect solution. When I mentioned Say Intentions and Beyond ATC they said they have seen them and even spoken to them but those software are roughly 80-85% of the way there, and to implement something that isn't 100% doesn't make sense, but they are keeping there eyes and ears open to what is happening with ATC and AI. (They being Jorg Head of MSFS, during my interview. I'll have that video out later this week.)
@@theVRpilot Funny... I would say FS2020 is still only 80-85% of the way there and they didn't have any problems releasing it... and no doubt 2024 won't be 100% (weather radar, where art thou?) The 100% is a red herring....
Its so funny that MSFS doesn’t get as good VR as Condor Soaring does since years. Yeah, Condor Soaring doesn’t have that great terrain quality, but they know how to get great performance. My GPU is that silent with Condor VR, everything is smooth and just great. The flying physics are far better than at MSFS. I believe Microsoft never had a look at Condor Soaring. Otherwise they would habe be ashamed with their MSFS 2020 VR. Looking forward to the improvements - but I guess its still just a huge compromise.
I just looked up Condor VR. It looks fun! But I think MSFS is trying to do way more than Condor and it works the CPU/GPU significantly more, so of course Condor can run better, visually is a lighter game but as you said with great physics. I think we are in for a treat with 2020 and most folks will hopefully have that FINALLY moment lol.
Yeah! I think that’s a great setup to start with. Powerful CPU with a decently strong GPU. Remember VR requires to render to identical images to give us the stereoscopic 3D to have depth to have that creates the immersive experience.
I really enjoyed MSFS at night but I can see how it wasn't perfect. I did not have any OLED headset to try it on either. I did get to fly at night/dusk and it was a beautiful XP but this only 2D not VR. I trust VR will look good too? I wish I had thought of flying at night lol. I was genuinely overwhelmed lol
Sorry, wrong comment earlier. Hey Bud! So, PC is very expensive. I don’t think it will be on the quest store. A few options might be to buy a used Xbox one X for under $300 or buy Xbox ultimate game pass which is $16 a month I think, and you can play on a browser with a an xbox controller.
Reading these comments on VR performance ... I can see the huge amount of mental trauma ppl have had trying to tweak through settings to get it to run smoother.. lol geeze .. really hope they fix it in 2024
100% lol, you aren't lying. We want Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, not Microsoft VR Settings Simulator 2024 right? haha. I am excited. The challenge with VR is two high resolution displays that require high refresh rate and drawing complex open worlds. I hope the DX12 + Multithreaded support, optimization and a bit light tweaking is the answer we are looking for.
The VR footage looks horribly choppy and laggy though, even though you say the performance is good ? is this because of the recording or something then?
@@fredspekvet5875 Hey Fred! Recording VR is not like recording 2D games. Is much more challenging as far as software and representing what I see in VR. My experience, while not perfect was really good in VR. I also had no experience with pimax software and did not tweak any settings. I have since used the pilled crystal light at home ABs had the sim run much smoother with a few setting changes.
@@theVRpilot Thank you for the reply, that's somewhat reassuring , as I plan to run the game in VR on my Quest 3 (in combination with a 7700x , 32 gb ram and a 4080 super, plan to use dlss + framegen) , I hope it turns out okay.
Not sure, MP was not enabled. But also, that could be an easy fix but the issue is model matching. They should have a generic default help but there are so many aircraft they software would need to be coded as it doesn’t know what to show for what your flying whether it’s a harrier, a cabri g2 or a Blackhawk
@@theVRpilot Certainly! Here's the revised text: I think having a Generac helicopter model available for rendering to another online players would be a great attempt at fishing this clearing hole in their development. The idea of an application like MSFS2020 rendering helicopters as planes in 2024 seems unusually shortsighted. It's noteworthy that FSX addressed this issue a long time ago. The fact that the current versions of MSFS have not tackled this issue is concerning.
the drop of WMR support in near feature rendering the Reverb G2 headset bricked is simply the reason for me never ever buy any HP product in future. Enough is enough.
I hear your frustration. Varjo sort of did the same with the Aero. VR is evolving fast, tech doesn't stay on the top for more than a few months. With that being said, consumers should be able to use hardware for a MINIMUM for two years (should be WAY LONGER) but if they so choose to dump it, open source the software and let us use it, or I think often hackers will find a way.
@@theVRpilot thats exactly my idea, open source it, or if MS does not feel any obligation, as a HW maker (HP) either develop some API or open source the HW. The G2 is still very relevant headset, while yes there are better headsets on the market, those are not day and night better, it is a shame that I cant keep on using the tech I payed a lot money for and is still working at my needs. I was one of the pre-order guys, waiting for the G2 from June to late December (missed Christmas) while it was promised on September. German buyers got 100€ cashback for the delay, I got nothing despite the fact I bought the headset at very same German e-tailer, but my address was outside Germany. Then it was not working properly since I had a AMD mainboard and CPU, I had to wait for the V2 cable, now they drop the software support. What a disappointing company, never HP products again for me.
I like it, that's now my 3rd time with it in demo scenarios, so out out in Vegas several months back at FS Expo and now again. I should be getting one in week, so I will have a setup / tutorial for it for 2024!
@@theVRpilot hi thanks for the repky, I think that is one of the much needed improvements, turbulent air in the clouds and the turbulent buffeting when flying in bad/poor weather. Let's hope they have managed to simulate it.
Well you better open your wallet lol. They absolutely have. IS it perfect? NOOO, but your gonna be happy with these load times. That alone makes it worth it imo.
Lol, sorry. I played a bit of my VR broll I screen captured and then actuall footage. Also Davinci resolve set the FPS to 24, while I meant for 60fps like my last video. So 24FPS with screen tearing has to be gross, sorry lol.
You know, I thought it flew pretty good. It was a bit weird as far as the joystick I was using, something by thrust master, or maybe it did fly like a KITE lol. I am no real pilot, but I thought it flew good after I got the hang of it and reminded me of DCS more than the F-18.
@@d.b.1176 Ah ok. I hoped you watched the video. 1. I explained that VR stutters are in part due to how this was recorded, I had no clue what software this was, and STUTTERS you see from the recording are not seen in VR. 2. Yes, there are stutters. I said I did not have an FPS counter and that while the performance was good, it wasn't perfect and left room for improvement. 3. Have you ever recorded VR content? It ain't easy and you have to damn near be a magician if the software does not have native support for exporting a single HD display which I got to personally ask for on behalf of the VR flight sim community. I have mentioned poor textures, water over bridges, cars going the wrong way, the fact it took 30 minutes to set up my VR, the stutters, the CTD I had. I have been making content and am consistent with my content, if you like it stick around otherwise thanks for commenting.
Honestly answering questions on performance I think the readers need to know it's a bit rediculous. Folks know full well that the last part of development is bug fixing, optimisation and polish, so examining performance in detail in a beta state is pointless. I think your approach was perfect because you alluded to it being promising and that's good enough - it suggests that we can get better performance for the same level of detail and I'll take that! 👍
Yeah Jones, that's it. The problem is sometimes a few people want something to complain about, others have a hard time understand the software is still 2 months out from being published and that yes, we have room for improvement. It's difficult responding to all the silly comments but sometimes I do it because others are thinking the same thing, and education seems to be the best way to handle those issues.
You really kind of miss the boat. I understand that you had little exposure time. But the biggest drawback of VR is it's use limitations. Lot's of stuff doesn't work in 2020. They need to get serious about interfacing it into the sim properly and professionally. For example the hand controllers in drone mode should work like Google Earth VR. They don't. Drone usage is dismally interfaced. Many other things are not interfaced at all or do not work at all. VR does not work with most of the main menu items. And the mode changes are buggy. That is what I want to know if got fixed. With Martial at the helm I doubt it is. He does not seem to care much about VR as a priority. I get the impression he wishes it were gone.
How did I miss the boat? I was literally replying to induvial comments posted. I think it appears I dod not address some of your concerns but lets talk... Lots of stuff does work with MSFS 2020, but yes you are correct not everything. I don't think they are worried about a professional setup here, the audience while looking for realism, isn't majority commercial or professional folks so no they aren't pushing for a commercial or professional or CFI sim style here. With that being said, they are driving and pushing for realism, yes and MSFS is improving this all. Hand controllers should be better, I agree. Drone usage is ok, I use and Xbox controller and its decent enough. Could be better sure. Interface issues? Do you mean VR controls on the aircraft? Sure, that could be better. XP12 is amazing at that. VR works all the time for me with the main menu, but I trust our experiences are different. Yes, VR is buggy. I don't know who Martial is? Is that with Xbox? Again, I don't think I missed the boat, I covered a lot and had limited time and focused on a lot of VR issues. Clearly I cant cover them all.
@@theVRpilot I agreed that you time was limited. But all you talk about is quality of image. The VR interface just plain stinks in 2020 and even they have admitted that several times. Most the stuff doesn't even work and is clunky. And they have vowed to do something about it but never do. Then they all admit VR is about all they personally use. And in the Developer blog, that is ALL one of them said was going to happen but did not address. He said and I quote, "you VR people will be very happy with all the changes we made". So getting it right is the very first thing I personally would have been checking out. Quality of image has more to do with the VR headset than anything else. And that subject has already been beaten to death no end. I use a Pimax Crystal and have zero complaints with image quality. But drone mode control ? Oh how horrible. The speed doesn't even work correctly and is jumpy and locks up all the time near the ground. It is a total pain in the ass and I have it yoke programmed for ease of use. My fingers get sore unjamming it to where I have to quite using it and let them rest. That is what I want to know about. Oh yes, it is so bad I finally voice programmed it. That helped.
@@mesillahills Fair enough! Lots of great points made, I have noted a few of them down. I do hope as well they take VR more seriously, what they need is someone like us to sit there with them and point it out lol. They likely check the basics and keep rolling.
Again, is lidar data, satellite imagery and azure AI. Unless it’s modeled and touched up by hand like airports and special scenery, I think some will look more generic while others look better. I wish I had more time to fly. Most of the content you see here was broll provided by MS to me. I’ll be sharing my actually screen recording with commentary coming up!
Thanks for the first look. I think we’ll have to wait and see how tweaks work with headsets to gauge VR performance. I was somewhat surprised that known VR content creators weren’t greeted with elaborate VR setups at the ready. It was almost like an afterthought which doesn’t say native VR was a priority for 2024. Hopefully, dynamic foveated rendering is a reality. I’ll be excited to see what you’re able to do with the Quest 3 in another couple of months. Looking forward to it. Thanks again!
@8:50 As an actual ATP rated pilot @ilynx2008 sure sounds like a teen aged flight school dropout with that grammar and tone. At best he probably flies for Mesa.
lol, leave him alone. NY is still ugly! lol, but seriously he made some comments that I wanted to address as he isn't the only one who doesn't understand exactly how this all works and wants it to be 100000% flawless representation of his city.
@@theVRpilot I'll admit I noticed the same things he noticed and it does irk me as well. However, I at least understand it's just the nature of the beast. It doesn't seem as egregious as 2020 at least. The one thing that drove me absolutely nuts about 2020 is how all the runway lights in every single airport were always on 24/7. Can't believe they've never patched this in over 4 years. It looks like that's finally fixed in 2024. Can you confirm?
@@aerialbugsmasher I was only busting his chops. He is right some areas are bad! I also have the winwing fcu and use it for practicing real world procedures as well and like your friend you mentioned in that other video I'll be using it to brush up in recurrent as well here soon. I actually had the mini FCU but ended up getting rid of it, I thought it was extremely flimsy and I had no good way of securing it on my desk, so every button pull or push it was moving all over the place. I strongly favor the Fenix too and at the time it wasn't fully supported. For Reeeealz bro! I agree! VR is the way to go!

Ya everybody says we are niche and it’s because they haven’t tried it or when they’ve seen vr it’s the low quality potato graphics. Nothing like a reasonable setup in msfs vr.
MSFS 2024 in VR with good performance, my life will be complete.
I agree. Now if you add VR + FFB or Motion, its a wholllle other experience. I got a review on FFB Moza Base coming out soon.
@@blastofo same dude. I've been so disappointed when msfs2020. I have a 4080 super and it's still choppy

Thank you for all your hard work in delivering the community these updates. 🙏🏾
My pleasure!!!
Thanks for addressing the DFR/Quadviews question it would be good to bottom that out. Remember its native support we need to know about like we have in DCS not some forced implementation on top of MSFS because the former yields the benefits where as the latter does not.
Great point! I think it’ll be native plus with having the Multi Threaded support we should just have a better smoother experience. I’m really excited!

I see it now! Lol I’m a terrible ATC haha.
I did not get to test the cockpit interactions. I agree, XP12 is Damn near perfect!
I can add this to my list to follow up with.
Yep! This is a very important question!👍🏻
@@theVRpilot Yes please I'd really like to know as well !
side stick is implemented only in X-plane ( or maybe DCS ?), in simulators.
FS2020 or 2024 are GAMES with simulations, NOT simulators.

Heck’s yes! How cool is that!
VR is as VR does. EVERYONE will have different results. There is no way to quantify it for any one person unless you have the EXACT hardware and software config as the person using it. Even then there are other factors you cannot take into account.
1000% Agreed. So many factors and variables between software, hardware, cycle of moon. Lol

Defi itley need DFR integrated natively, ideally via quad views. That would be HUGE. Keep pushing them!
I agree, I will!

@@theVRpilot awesome! Thanks man. 👍
Thanks!
Interesting! I wasn’t aware of that
New subscriber here; Thanks for the video and answering some of the questions!
@bakzetary3145 wait for MS 2024 , multithreaded support is going to great!
I saw the requirements posted, I might do a video talking about this.
Howdy... any info on hand tracking? Like touching controls with fingers?
Do you have a video on tuning/tweaking the settings for the quest 3? My VR performance has gotten very bad. Almost unusable
Would you do a setting video for the quest 3? I’ve been messing around a bunch now I have upgraded my PC and can never get a good mix of clarity and FPS, Thank you!
I have this in my to do list! Yes
@@theVRpilot awesome!!!! Will be eagerly waiting 😊
Man so true! I completely forgot to ask this, but I am going to follow up with them.
@@theVRpilot Great😃👍Ive made my own FFB stick(Laserwing miniffb). It is DirectX compatible, but that needs native ffb support…
@@strikkflypilot927 awesome!
Would be great if they could fix that and allow developers more wiggle room to do cool stuff with mixed reality.
how the walking felt in VR? i am very excited for a new functionality which is walking around the plane, but curious how they did it in VR
I forgot to check that lol. I only walked in Vr 2D. :( fail lol

LOL, hopefully I didn't wake you up Murphy!
I love the sound of the A-10!
@@47guitartom Yeah, I def. don't get to see all the bugs. I might try to recreate this though. Gonna boot up MSFS in a bit!

Proper lighting is often helpful, but also are you resetting the headset positions once you are on your chair ready to fly? what headset is that?
Looks great mate! Do we still need to use OpenXR toolkit in msfs2024?
Not sure.... I hope to get my hands on alpha and have a tutorial video for launch.
Thanks for all the VR info about MSFS 2024. How does VR on foot work, are you still able to do the walk around?
Sorry Daniels, I failed to test the walking feature. I was genuinely so excited to try other stuff, I did try 2D walking around but not in VR. Time was limited not by MS but because we had so many activities.
I woke up at 4AM due to the time change, went to the lobby at 630 am, and the Official MS event didn't end until 930 PM. Also I didn't go back to my hotel room until 1AM after socializing and chatting up with other content creators.
It was a great event, I am planning on doing a vlog of it to share with the community.
@@theVRpilot It's all good! Thanks for being transparent, I am really looking forward to November!
I use a meta quest 3 with physical instrument panels, eg Saitek. Will MSFS24 offer passthrough natively (without wifi-only VirtualDesktop)? Will I be able to display the gps on an external display (eg RealSimGear) while in VR mode?
I do not know, but this would be epic. Something to add to my questions list!
Even in MSFS 2020 the A-10 is the best way to get some sightseeing done - not too fast not too slow!
A10 is a classic .

You were the only one that test a Virtual reality session I guess ? 😎 great content Jose . I have a question do we need to download the new world updates or or the ready when finished by MS and we can stream them from the cloud ?
Its streamed from the cloud,
I believe the only thing stored on your hard disk is the game client itself, as well as mods from 3rd party websites.
Install size will be 60gb as per Asobo. DL size might be 30gb but unpacked into 60gb. But yes, most of this will be on the cloud!
@@LodewijkVrije So a big unanswered question is if you set your rolling cache to let’s say 1TB, how well will the sim perform since the data may not be written as efficiently to your SSD compared to 2020. Do you think we will have to upgrade from 32GB to 64GB Ram if you're already running a high end cpu and GPU (like 4090/4080 with 14900k) to get good performance in VR?
Tim, I do NOT think so, but I think you SHOULD!

Has MSFS2024 fixed the issue where my helicopter looks to other online players like a plane?
Not sure, MP was not enabled. But also, that could be an easy fix but the issue is model matching.

the drop of WMR support in near feature rendering the Reverb G2 headset bricked is simply the reason for me never ever buy any HP product in future.

I like it, that's now my 3rd time with it in demo scenarios, so out out in Vegas several months back at FS Expo and now again. I should be getting one in week, so I will have a setup / tutorial for it for 2024!
Is there turbulent air in clouds now?
I flew VFR only lol. I should have tried. I think weather and wind dynamics are improved, but we will have to wait and see!
@@theVRpilot hi thanks for the repky, I think that is one of the much needed improvements, turbulent air in the clouds and the turbulent buffeting when flying in bad/poor weather. Let's hope they have managed to simulate it.
I cant watch a guy fly around outside of his plane like a video game, lol.
I agree man!
This was BROLL footage Microsoft provided me with in 4k of MSFS2024. Lol, watch all my videos, they are cockpit VR flights. Lol
@@theVRpilot This makes me feel better, lol.
Nah but I get you. I can’t fly or drive outside in sims.
If they don't fix performance , I aant buying the crap
Despite high end PC , it stutters and doing countless tweaks
Well you better open your wallet lol. They absolutely have.
IS it perfect? NOOO, but your gonna be happy with these load times. That alone makes it worth it imo.
For someone who can't stand even a little bit of screen tearing this video is really hard to watch😱
Lol, sorry. I played a bit of my VR broll I screen captured and then actuall footage. Also Davinci resolve set the FPS to 24, while I meant for 60fps like my last video.
So 24FPS with screen tearing has to be gross, sorry lol.
@@theVRpilot No problem mate, sh*t happens
That A10 flight model looks really bad, it flies like a kite.
You know, I thought it flew pretty good. It was a bit weird as far as the joystick I was using, something by thrust master, or maybe it did fly like a KITE lol. I am no real pilot, but I thought it flew good after I got the hang of it and reminded me of DCS more than the F-18.
Someone want to be invited back…
Mr. Cooper! I finally found you.
I am always open to criticism and suggestions as opposed to half baked comment implying.... what? Expand please!
@@theVRpilot looks like you’re reluctant to criticize how bad the game is stuttering because you want to be invited back next time.
@@theVRpilot cool deal…
Dynamic forveated rendering ist not quad views.
True yes. So we will should have FFR on launch, with DFR later on, and the hope is to push for quad view support as well.
I thought the shaking in the chase camera was because you placed the camera behind the engines? I never noticed it otherwise.
Possible!! Idk, I don't fly outside. Just go outside for an occasional screen shot when I land lol.
High end comp.. over generic terrain with no buildings.. pretty much no clouds and it looks like a stutter fest. Way to go microsloft!
Horrible!
@@Heli_Junkie lol, ok. Tell me what looks better?
Terrain is one thing but what about cityscapes and statics? Are they still 2D pasted cardboard cutouts or do they represent 3D at least somewhatt?
I can not confirm that, but as an ATC I have been known to forget to turn off airport lights LOL and the county yells at us to shut them down.
Also when a storm passes through we turn them on so I wonder if the sim has runway / airport lighting time with metar of low vis and rain.
@@theVRpilot yeah I've seen you guys do that for sure lol. At any rate nice channel man just bumped into it. I drive the bus, haven't been to TPA in a while but I'll see if I recognize your voice and give you a shout out next time I go there.
But the winwing is much more solid and the actual scale accuracy helps with muscle memory and it doesn't flop around like the mini.
@@aerialbugsmasher I have been here 2 years, still haven't made it to the tower lol. Training is slow.
Ill be on 119.9/135.5 (east airspace hi/low) and south (SRQ) 119.65/134.25 hi/lo as well.
Nice! I will have a video on the EFIS....SOON lol. I am no pro airbus pilot, but I will give them a look!
