  • In this video, I am attacking a common issue of Gorilla tape Residue.
One of the worst (and most common) examples of this is when people use it as a "ghetto-hack" for tubeless tires. The residue left is insane. How do you get it off metal that has been heating under the sun?
This is also applicable to industries like sound reinforcement where techs might use the tape for cables or microphone rigs...or in the realm of photo/video to rig up custom light rigs...
I am looking at how effective it is to use Mineral Spirits to remove this tape residue, and using one of the worst examples I can think of to test it...a tubeless bike wheel...

Thank you very much for this video. The Gorilla tape that I had on my 29+ carbon wheels was about 4 years old and it was a real bear to remove. I used your method of strips of an old towel, mineral spirits and waiting about 10 min and it worked amazingly!

Thank you for this! I used rag strips cut from an old sheet so there was less material to soak through and Goo Gone. This method worked like a charm and saved me hours of work.

I take a fresh piece of tape and blot the old adhesive off the rim with the new tape. It pulls the old stuff right off.

Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I aways use Mac-Off or Stan's tape when sealing my rims but ran out and a local bike shop used Gorilla tape. Gorilla tape was a disaster for a number of reasons. Firstly it does a poor job of sealing tubeless tires, you have to pump them up much more that you would using Muc-Off or Stan's rim tape. Secondly, as you demonstrated, it's difficult to remove the residue left when re-taping. Again, Muc-Off and Stans tape are much easier when it comes to removing any residue left behind. Both of the purpose made rim tapes are not expensive so I'm at a loss why anyone would knowingly use Gorilla tape as rim sealant.

Yes why would they… unless their local bike store was out of proper rim tape and told them gorilla tape works great 🤦🏻‍♂️
