Here are some applications of the 6 Stroke Roll to create fills and some groove variations! I hope this lesson also gives you some ideas to use other rudiments in a creative way.

Awesome. The 6 stroke roll as triplets is my go to especially with blues.

Some rudiments have different interpretations and applications in different subdivisions, sometimes it gets confusing. I'm happy to hear that something got clearer for you with this lesson! 🤘🥁
To much math in drumming . My aptitude for mathematics was always horrible . Science aptitude was extremely high but no chance of a career in science with poor understanding of mathematics. I’m a visual oriented person but musically talented . I know 1+1 =2 : 1+2 = 3 : 2+2 =4 : 3+2 =5 :
So what does it take to master drums 🤷🏻♂️🤷♀️Most of you Drum instructors are MATH heads but not necessarily musical . If you gave me private face to face lessons not virtual but in reality I might be a difficult student . Some of the best drummers play by ear. Many legendary drummers have great ears but also read music and are mathematically gifted . Buddy Rich was so talented he never had to bother with reading music . Also i would like to state it seems there are endless ways the six stroke roll is taught and written . Is it not also called a double stroke paradiddle. 🤔

That was a really good lesson. I only recently memorized the 6 stroke roll that you just demonstrated. I am still working on mastering it on the practice pad and was wondering how I could use it in a drum fill in real life. That is when I came across your video. I really appreciate the way you broke it down and slowed it down and gave several examples of how to incorporate it into a usable fill on the drum set. I am a schooled musician from taking some lessons from professional drummers like yourself but I myself am still at a very intermediate level at best. I am always in awe of people who have truly mastered this instrument. I am a senior student and do not have the flexibility and advantage of youth. My brain, however, is still fairly sharp. Drumming keeps me occupied and will hopefully keep me out of the nursing home for many more years. Thanks again for this great lesson. I really appreciate it.

I'd always wondered why sometimes the 6 stroke roll sounded as equal notes while other times the accented single stroke were separate.

Hi Sylvester! I’m from Brazil, but you know what, I lived for 6 months in Victoria BC and some people would always ask if I was from Québec, you’re not the first one to say something like that about my accent! 😜 All the “rolls” can be played in different ways, assuming different subdivisions for the notes, but there are always the “traditional” way of playing them. I’m glad you liked the lesson! 🤘🥁
I notice at 9:00 when you were playing the groove on both HH and snare, you shifted your right arm forward and left hand back, both just a bit, so that you were no longer crossing sticks. This gives you the same benefit as "open" style players. I find myself doing this a lot when I want to get complicated two-handed HH accents into a groove. I've moved my snare position a little left, and keep the HH as far right as possible, to facilitate this. The only drawback is that every now and then I whack my right hand with my left stick - and have nail blood blisters to show for it.

I know i can use a metronome and practice it as slow as i like, but it's fun to play along to the video and learn on my pratice pad as i watch, would be coolif you did a 40 and 60 bpm part to play along too.
I play it.. RR LL RL. It rolls much better. But I like your way to. RR Tom LL Tom. RL snare.
I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention Motown. You might have, this licks on a good number of songs by the label. I don't need to hear most of the lesson just what you play. I don't mean that negatively. I'm just not learning anything new from this just per say refreshing an idea. Good video.
That’s a great reference, and you’re right, I could have mentioned Motown. I tried to keep it more “generic” to make it suitable to different styles, but it’s definitely a great musical reference. And if you already know the rudiment and tried to apply it to your playing, I can understand you not learning anything new here, but I’m trying to show some ideas beyond the basics for people who didn’t master that yet.
