Solid video. I could say a lot about AI, I think the core of it is this; AI is ultimately a tool for capital to deskill and cut labor cost. It’s development and deployment is entirely in service to that goal.
In context of the music industry, it’s easy to imagine how the big kids might leverage this technology.
Perhaps streaming platforms like Spotify start to saturate playlists with AI generated music to reduce royalty cost.
Major labels bringing artists back from the dead, leveraging their catalogs to create “Frankenstein” style material.

"based off our database use a 808 bass with trap keys to make a beat at 120 tempo in my style .. it will go through your database of all the beats u made and say "this guy uses these sounds to make this style of beat .. instead of u sitting there doing it"
now u can say "make 100 beatswith my style" while producing a new sound from scratch in real life without ai ..to feed it the new sound you want to innovate .. this is an innovation tool not a "deskiller" ive only increased my skills working with ai

We are just not advanced enough as a society to keep up with the technology we are making. They didn't jump on streaming just because they wanted the money, they did it because they couldn't stop what Napster started. With AI the cat is out of the bag, just like Napster they not gonna stop it, we just don't know where it's going. I think it will lead to a more radical/thinking art movement and not just artists chasing the bag.

The new philosophy is that the artist’s voice is now an instrument. People who are actually lyrical and or are good at identifying artists lyrical patterns can eventually make songs possibly better (based on consensus) than the artist. What’s next (because no one can stop someone from posting things on TH-cam and other places) is that artists need to simply license their voices out or there need to be new laws on propriety over one’s voice. I don’t see it disappearing I just see two possibly three crowds forming, those who are completely against it, those who love it and everyone else between.

The music industry is going to have the same problem as the artist community. Boomin beats did not make any beats without the influence of listening to and disecting other copyrighter beats. This is exactly what AI is doing. Same exact thing. This was the argument artists tried to make. Unless artists, and or musicians, producers, wiped their brains went into a cave and only then opened their eyes and ears in a dark cave with no previous experience or influence from preexisting visuals and or audios and created then they too have been trained from all previous works they have been exposed to.. That is what they are complaining about AI. It is no different. There is nothing new under the sun. Everything is a remix in one way or another because everyone creating is influenced by copyrighted material. This is the same for AI.

I think the labels will win in the end, because if they can generate their own beats, use AI songwriting tools, and generate a voice from scratch that they could own, then they could essentially own entirely AI-generated artists. Now technically anyone would be able to do this too in their bedrooms, but of course the labels with their connections and marketing budget would mean they'd be dominating that space more than anyone. I think it'll no longer be enough to just be a "producer" or an "artist", each person would have to do both, essentially just putting out full songs, and those who master branding and marketing would rise to the top, which is arguably how it's always been, given how many talented people never make it in the industry.

It created a lower barrier for entry, royalty payouts decreased, and splits became a headache so labels were less willing to take a chance on unknown producers unless it was a collab with a known producer. I feel like at some point, it'll be easier for labels and mass copyright holders to leverage their ownership to generate new music. Why deal with tracking down the 10 producers on a loop when you have a ton of music to train against and then provide your artists with those beats?
With the slew of artists selling their catalogues, I can see these giant bodies getting more and more in position to monopolize the modern sound of music (assuming in these catalogue deals, they end up wholly owning the copyrights or master recordings. Maybe this is unlikely 🤔)

I wouldn't be surprised if an app like Spotify has a special feature or button in 5 to 10 years that generates an entire song tailor-made from the ground up for each individual user depending on their tastes. A 4 on the Floor would narrow that down exponentially and when you add a clap on the downbeat, again you'd narrow it down. You don't even need AI to figure out it's near impossible to come up with something unique. With millions of people making beats worldwide, It's extremely likely a copyrighted beat has been done before in some basement by a kid with no name and no network. I bet the industry will eventually use it to generate a new Michael Jackson, Bowie, Prince, Elvis or Queen album.

Honestly, I don't think it's that big of a deal (in terms of beats). I think it will flood the market in terms of selection but when a beat hits right for an artist, it hits right. Sure people will resonate with AI beats as the software improves but I think if you're a talented beatmaker then you'll know what you want to hear and that should translate into something that's still marketable.
I think the only people who aren't really safe are the people who are maybe just getting into producing, because of the learning curve. I just hope that musicianship doesn't suffer in the long term because those people opt for AI instead of taking the time to experiment themselves. Who knows though? The thing about AI is it's only able to work with what you tell it, and there's a big difference in someone who doesn't know musical terminology and someone who does. I think it'll still take a musical ear to actually shape the AI beats into something worth listening to.

If this ever went to court the labels would lose as it would be impossible to copyright a human voice. Copyright is ultimately about composition. Something has to be composed. It’s why you can’t copyright a synth sound etc.. it’s the same with a voice. The labels will try to put pressure on any main player just so none of this ever gets to court. If AI stuff gets tested in court the music business is pretty much over.

Always appreciate your content DJPain1! Also Soundful works a bit differently than you explained though, it’s much different than splice. Splice gives you recycled samples. Soundful generates unused, brand new samples and full tracks based on what it thinks that genre should sound like. You can also purchase exclusive licenses. It’s a true job killer. Or an enhancer if producers use it to increase quality and quantity. A lot to unpack.

@DJ Pain 1 and @Sontwisted for one this is what we get for allowing hiphop production to be so stale. Everyone sounding the same or similar. Now we know it's not everyone but it's way too many. So we just made the AI's job easier to find the patterns. 2. The only way they could keep track of each loop that is created with the aoundful and to also give everyone their own separate loops even when asked for the very se thing. Is to save every loop that it creates into a database and tag it as unique. Then every time a new beat or loop is generated it would have to first be cross referenced to that database. If loop = loop from database, Then slightly change loop.

They literally couldn't stop people sharing (pirate) tapes of albums, couldn't stop people from downloading music with Napster, and couldn't stop Spotify and TH-cam from offering free streams. All they could do was negotiate for a small royalty/revenue share. How are they going to stop people making fake Taylor Swift, Drake, or Weeknd tracks when we'll all have the technology to make mash-ups from the stuff that already exists? We aren't gonna pay for music when we can create it with an AI chatbot.

I think we are in danger of mixing up two situations here - one the one had we have clones/parodies etc that are huge news at the moment, and I think will ultimately be regarded as novelties, on the other hand we have songwriters (like myself) who use AI generated "backing tracks" as inspiration to produce a finished song using the AI input as a starting point. The finished product in this instance is not attempting to sound like anyone else, with the 60-70% of the song being overdubs of vocals and instruments created solely by the living artist. My latest album includes no less than 8 songs that include AI elements.

The major labels in the industry are very very brutal the reason why is because I don't use samples I make all my melodies and all my cords myself. And it's the crazy part if they even put in a lawsuit claiming that you used any part even if you made it yourself fresh chords fresh Melody never been heard they will go as far to steal your beat by going in and using software to match up your kicks and your snares to certain elements of different songs. Just to put up a copyright claim on your great beat has happened to me and has happened to other producers. You guys need to talk about that too that we need to be a collective Union.

It sounds like legislation needs to be passed that actually allows ones likeness sound timbre to be copyrighted currently People are entitled to intellectual property rights that protect against another's misappropriation of their name, image, and likeness for profit. This is known as the right of publicity. The right of publicity is not protected by federal law but rather at the state level, and state laws vary...This needs to change).
As it stands one can not Copyright or trademarking ones own face or likeness, the intellectual rights process is only valid for man-made creative ventures. The creative work must be a product of deliberate effort through creativity and conscious choices. Again all this needs to change in preparation for the new inevitable approaching paradigm.

I love the concept of AI in the arts because as a tool, it can help people climb over technical hurdles. I do audio and graphics production and in both cases I think AI is fantastic for generating custom "stock" images in incorporate and manipulate, much in the same way AI can produce audio samples to incorporate and manipulate..
its obvious problem is that it never stops at just being a tool, and will inevitably become what people rely on to do all the work... which just means the hackies jerks with the most are going to thrive, while actual creative people get buried in a super-saturated market.
At this point Record Labels should just disappear. They are pointless.

I really enjoyed your video and breakdown of what’s going on in the industry. I have started viewing AI like people used to view Wikipedia. Wikipedia can be a great resource if you learn how to fact check it and verify original sources, but you wouldn’t want to use Wikipedia, a summary, as the actual resource because it’s a “middle man.” AI like ChatGPT will eventually be viewed that way I think.
When it comes to art, I’m really not sure how I view it. Instinct has me wanting to defend it as a technology. I don’t like the idea of preventing a new tech from developing but we have to find a way to protect artists. I think artists in general should be paid better and better taken care of by the system, but I don’t know if it’s AI that’s in the wrong. I’m still developing my understanding and opinions on AI Art.

I think AI for music is amazing for the fact that it "can" bring artists back to life. If for example everyone involved agrees that Michael Jackson posthumously can be used (legally) we could see people today and in the future, allow new producers to keep artists spirits alive. I think that's a great thing

There will also be increasing *incorrect* “right of publicity” claims because once this gets established as a way for holders of the status quo to crush even legitimate competition, absolutely it will be used to push bogus legal actions to suppress up-and-comers without major label clout. For example, against a singer who just happens to sound a bit like Taylor Swift or Drake. This right of publicity stuff could be a huge mess in 10-15 years.

As with all things, in the end it's like this... either you're honest in what you do and how, or you hide things and possibly deceive your fans.
In my opinion, artists (whether rappers or producers) will have to increasingly determine which target group quality they want to address. Depending on the motivation, new strategies will emerge to bring music into circulation. Maybe music will become more exclusive again and will not only take place online.
These are turbulent times in any case.

I feel you...but thats how it go's. Gas engines came. Steam engine guys were pissed. I studied website design and right after I got out of school...Square Space was launched instantly making the majority of what I learned redundant. I welcome AI generated music. I have herd some pretty fire tracks made by AI. Once we as regular people get these tools then we will also be able to make cool things. Photoshop made it so that people that couldn't draw could draw expertly and no longer required an artist. Fruityloops made it so that people that could not play an instrument at all can now expertly play any instrument they desire without requiring a producer or engineer.
How cool would it be to open up a DAW and you start singing or rapping and then have the AI generate random beats for that and you edit that to your liking or if you make a beat and then the AI generate lyrics and you edit that to your liking. I think that would be interesting. Music that was generated but then crafted to your liking. Cause the AI is gonna have ideas that you would have never thought of on your own.
I can see companies using this to eliminate needing to pay a producer. I mean...I personally would rather AI generate a song and save the money rather than pay a real ass musician to sit down and compose music and write lyrics for the Power Rangers Theme Song I need for my TV Show. And to be honest I think an AI would have did a better job on the Power Rangers song if they had it back then. It was a terrible song. They repeated the same words over and over again. Lazy. And I only think that because getting Hans Zimmer to produce your track is expensive AF so they got whatever nobody they could fit in the budget. Us old heads are used to the old way. Some of us won't like this. Like those steam engine guys. I can't wait to get my hands on some of these tools.
