  • Looking at the 659 engine and whether you can put the later DS style cylinders and heads on the old small block motors.
    Spoiler alert: no.

    thanks for the video , it was your series on this engine that inspired me to do my own valve clearance check on my 796 .. priceless information and help .. 👍

    Hi Brad thanks for the information in this video, very helpful
    Will be using this video and another to attempt a piston / Piston ring replacement along alongside a head gasket replacement.
    Any suggestion like torque specs and special tools ?

    Hi Brad, thanks for sharing your experience and helping many of us out with clear info. Do you have advice or a procedure how to break in the engine after work on the cylinders and their seal rings? I see a lot of info, but nothing rally consistent. Our bike: 996 for track days

      if there has been no plain bearings replaced, you just need to bed the rings in. if it has new pistons, i'd heat cycle it once on the bench, then get it hot again, take it out and use lots of wot to load the rings and bed them in.

    Thanks, great video! Can you tell if the heads can be removed without taking the engine out, for example on a m900?

      all original style monsters and st you can pull the heads in the frame 2v and 4v, also mts1000/1100 and hm1100. m696 onwards you have to drop the engine. can't in ss or sc/gt.

    Thanks for the video -- I have a 900ss, a 796, and a friend has a 695... all good to know. What's in the background? Looks like a pantah engine in a Bimota (based on the swingarm...?)

    Very informative I have Ducati 620ie 2003. I need to change the piston rings and piston. Also replaced some gaskets and head gasket. Is necessary to disassemble the whole engine?

    Great video, do you think the 800 Cylinders, Heads and Pistons would fit on a 620 Engine? Should both be small block.

    Can the Ducati transmission be detached from the engine with relative ease, or do they share the same external casing? TIA.

    Hi,
    i'm rebuilding my M696 engine and i have a question what Pistonring gap do you recommend 😊
    thanks

      let me look in the manual for you. top and second 0.20 - 0.40mm, oil 0.30 - 0.60mm.

    hello! why my ducati monster 1000 ds sie 2005 puts gas in oil. 400ml after ~350km 10x (is it a stuck injector or used piston rings?)

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      the injectors are the only way fuel gets into the engine, so i'd guess one or both are leaking?

    Do the arrows on the piston point towards the exhaust valve?

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they point to the small valve relief, so yes, to the exhaust.

  • @henryware9440

    Sir: What is the quality of the MotoGuzzi engines? Are the cranks and rods forged? Are the cylinders nikasil lined? What is the weight without the transmission? TIA.

      are you inquiring about any particular engines from their 100 years of production?

    • @henryware9440

      @@bradthebikeboy I should have been more precise. I was thinking specifically about the engine in the V85TT series of bikes.

      @@bradthebikeboy How difficult was it to ov erhaul that engine? Did you have an engine manual from Motoguzzi? Were parts (gaskets, etc.) readily available on-line? TIA

    So no upgrade heads for a big block 900 available?

      wondering if machining the lip off the top of the 900 cylinder so it takes a normal head basket would work.

    Maybe the stud pattern was changed to allow for more room for larger ports in the head.

    • @bradthebikeboy
      @bradthebikeboy  ปีที่แล้ว

      there's plenty of room for ports as was. possibly as they were going to a head gasket (steel shim) where previously there wasn't a head gasket they wanted more clamping load surface?

    So, hypothetically speaking I could shove a longer stroke with a different piston to get the power without stroking out my engine.
