A few of our shop employees have used both the emerger and the mid length nets while nymphing with longer rods. It is important to consider the average size of fish in the rivers you spend the most time on. If they are larger, the smaller net will give you less margin for error when going in for the scoop. That being said, I have seen plenty of fish in the 20" range landed in the emerger and the hand net. The mid length net certainly gives you more reach and gives the fish more "wiggle room", but the smaller nets are easier to carry and don't hang up on branches as much if you do a lot of bushwhacking and hiking to get to your spots. I also nymph with a 10ft rod and have used the Nomad Hand Net ( www.avidmax.com/fishpond-nomad-hand-net/ ) for years with no issue. It has a short handle, but I like to get below the fish in the current and work them right into my lap, so that net works well for me. If you want a bit more reach than that, the Emerger ( www.avidmax.com/fishpond-nomad-hand-net/ ) would be a great choice. If you want more reach and a bigger basket then the mid length net is solid, and it makes it easier for netting big fish for your friends since you can get a two handed grip and really hold it smooth and steady if trying to scoop a fish in heavier current or deep water ( www.avidmax.com/fishpond-nomad-mid-length-net/ ). Consider which of these factors are most important to you as well as what fishing scenario you most often find yourself in. That should help determine which net makes the most sense for your needs on the water!

We would recommend a little bit bigger of a net for Steelhead potentially the El Jefe Nomad.
