I rarely have many positive things to say about the yt algorithm but recently it's (finally) been recommending creators with less than a bazillion subscribes and I'm so glad! Your presentation is so polished, you've got great vocal presence, your editing is fun and your illustrations are awesome!!! I can't wait to maybe see some more essay-ey videos in the future ^^

I really love how different this game was compare to the happy go lucky vibe of most Mario games. It really is a product of its time when Nintendo was really into experimenting this time around(Toadsworth, the karts in Double Dash, the more aggressive approach in Mario Strikers, and etc.). The sequels play it a lot more safer and are much more closer to the Mario brand.

    • @redcapillustrations
      @redcapillustrations  หลายเดือนก่อน +7

The Gamecube era itself was such a fun time with experimentation. I think it's why (past nostalgia) the Gamecube is so memorable to us. Though the current era of Nintendo is still amazing, they're not as risky and daring to try something new as often.

Luigi mansion is such a unique series in the Mario branding and honestly the whole horror genre as well. It’s not meant to scare you obviously but it’s just really cool and fun. A lot of games during the 2000s had lots of charm like that and even the early 2010s as well.

Boos are commonly agreed upon to be one of the biggest missed opportunities in the entire series. As far as anyone is concerned, replacing their collectable role with something else would honestly be far more interesting, maybe as individual secret bosses inside of Secret Areas or something like that. You can also see them directing and controlling the other ghost characters far more directly than King Boo, which would make them absolutely necessary to capture in order to restore an entire room and clean off any more combat from it and make cleaning up all of the treasure/collectables an incredibly easier task now that the Boos no longer block your way at the most inconvienient moment.
Make them into a collective version of Stalker Enemies, like Nemesis, Pyramid Head, or Mr. X from Resident Evil. Except instead of making your life difficult through direct combat, they instead do things to the various rooms, methods of travel, and even individual ghosts that make traversing through the mansions much harder.
Also, your character is honestly incredibly good looking.

Honestly Luigi's Mansion 1 is my favorite because its the perfect "halloween-y" game if that makes sense. It's the fun type of spooky you get from a lighthearted story or setup without taking itself too seriously.
It's similar to the original Scooby Doo, Where Are You from the 80s, where the environments and art depicting them looked dark, creepy, and had lots of the "haunted house" vibe. But the actual mystery and stakes were lighthearted, cartoony, there was no over the top danger, or nightmare inducing horror.
It's the "fun" kind of scary, not the "oh my god im going to have a heart attack" type of scary.

I've never been able to articulate my issue with Luigi's Mansion 2+3 quite like your explanation of the loss of the unexplained. The devs of LM1 were confident enough in the experience to not need go force lore and explanation and gimmick and ~aesthetic~ down our throats. The Luigi's Mansion series is a perfect example of "less is more"

I'm not going to lie, as soon as 37:16 hit, I could already feel the tears welling up. Luigi's Mansion was one of the first games I ever got to play growing up, and I was absolutely captivated by the atmosphere and Luigi's personality throughout the adventure. It took me years to beat it (partially because I didn't always know what to do and got lost easily since I was so young), but once I finally got to see that heartwarming ending cutscene, I knew this game would be one of my all-time favorites. Even as I've opened up more to horror games in general, my heart still has a place for that silly green plumber and his ghost-catching antics.
This was an amazing analysis, you perfectly captured just about every amazing trait about this game in a way that kept me engaged and entertained all the way through (something that some essays don't always do). Have a sub, you earned it.

I always assumed that the ghosts in 3 were dead people that stay at the hotel (like the hotel is an hotel for ghosts)
And luigis mansion 2 actually has... Something similar up portrait ghosts. The haunted Towers, the second mansion, is inhabited by the three sisters and interestingly enough, if you look through the haunted Towers, you can fine their three chairs, three beds, three sinks and lastly, three pictures of them when they were still alive. So not only do we get to meet three actually dead people but we even get to know what thes looked like as humans and the fact that thes used to own- and probably still do own- the haunted Towers. And considering the fact that the tree sisters look somewhat like the regular ghosts kinda hints at the regular ghosts being dead people too

I'm a huge fan of the Luigi's Mansion series. I actually watched this video while playing some LM2 solo scarescraper. But I gotta say that the quality of this video is amazing, for I assume a new youtuber/content creator. The humour, the information, the background music choices, the footage. I have a feeling you'll make it big pretty fast if you keep up like this.
I gotta admit, LM2 is without a doubt my favourite of the series, so I can't wait until it's out on Switch. The differences in each game are what makes them unique, in my opinion. The first entry is the lowest on my list, but it's very good nonetheless. As you described very well, the atmosphere / vibe is so well done, aswell as the ghost variants. I guess I'm just not a huge fan of replay ability, especially in the 3DS version (remake) where u have to play the game like 4-5 times or even more for all the achievements.
But anyway. I wonder what more content you will bring to the surface for us. I'd love to see your takes on the other games of Luigi's Mansion!

I remember being a fan of Luigi's Mansion 1 an' 2 myself, when I didn't even understand English and thought this game could be played safely on a CD ROM. I loved watching walkthroughs of these games, I literally loved everything about them (even though at first I didn't understand why the graphics were different, because my naive head saw it all as one game). The first part had a great soundtrack and active gameplay that tempted my ADHD. The second part was the same, but with more colourful and dark locations (it even became a part of my life in a way, because every time it gets really cold in winter, I start to unconsciously hear the Secret Mines OST). I'm still a fan of the series (but admittedly, the third part didn't impress me, not even a catchy soundtrack, except for the Virtual Boy call), I'm mesmerised by this mystery Beta version of Luigi's Mansion, which differs many times from the original. Thanks for the video! This series is sadly unpopular with fans and would love any content on this game!

Dark Moon actually does have some Portrait Ghost adjacent Ghosts. Such as the three sisters you fight in the second mansion, which are basically a one to one, and the ancient poltergeist in the third one. The three chained super ghosts in the mines are also similar, though they aren't as unique in character or story, but they are unique in design and how you find them.

I even go that same charm from the sequal dark moon. 2:13 Yeah honestly I agree about the "unsettling atmosphere" in Luigi's Mansion. Its little things like reading about the Ghost Family's problems and realizing that the final boss of Act 1 is literally a baby that died in its crib but the goofy nature of the game kinda smooths over things like that so you don't really pay attention to it unless you really think about it.
26:53 Oh yeah the later Boos in the game fucking suck.

I've never touched this game but Im really hoping it comes to the switch since dark moon got a shot at it. I completely get it how the other games don't really hit the same. No hate to the other 2 but number 1 hits so well because I used to watch people play it and it was so scary but satisfying how they would suck up the ghosts. The first ghosts are way scarier. I was so scared of the ceiling ghosts and I was scared to go into the halls. Also please don't get me started on potrait ghosts.
    Problem child Chauncey
    Lydia
    Twinsies
Shivers (ESPECIALLY. Another reason I didn't wanna go in the halls)
    Sue pea
    Biff atlas
Melody (Only because she gets mad at you and slams her piano when you get answer wrong. She pretty tho)
If I had to pick one, That baby freaked me the FUCK out as a kid.
Forgot to add ghost luigi from the beta made me cry as a kid. Although its not in the game but just for fun for the beta trailer.

The entire Luigi's Mansion series is more or less designed to be a homage to old horror cartoons and movies.

Coulda fooled me, Wind Waker seems very well-liked aside from the Triforce shard quest which is at the END of the game. Other than that, people praise the heck outta that game and it's easy to see why. Heck, it became my favorite Zelda game lol

I’ve never played the first Luigi’s mansion, but I remember playing Dark Moon on the 3ds and it’s one of my favorite games.
I also like the third one quite a bit, but I still prefer dark moon, as the individual mansions are far more memorable than some of the floors in the third game. More than half of the floors feel like padding that don’t contribute much story or gameplay wise besides being fun fights. For example the disco floor feels rather pointless in my opinion as the floor is mostly just the fight, and several of the floors feel like that. The best floors are ones like the movie studio, or unfortunately enough the sewer floor as there’s at least plenty to do there minus the mostly straight line nature of that floor. More than half of the floors are just hallways to boss fights unfortunately.
However each of Dark moons mansions are unique and interesting, with them each presenting a different view on what each of the mansions used to be like in its time. Additionally the final dark moon mansion truly feels like the final stage being more grand and impressive than the other ones, it’s at the very least more interesting than the final floor of 3, which is another glorified hallway.
Additionally all the common ghosts in 3 feel like reskins of the Dark moon ghosts, unless the dark moon ones are reskins of the original games ones.
Though I do prefer the idea of the character ghosts over dark moon’s possessor ghosts or whatever they’re called.

Luigis Mansion 1 for GameCube is the best in the trilogy and after seeing 2 and 3 I kinda wish they’d just left 1 as a standalone game Nintendo either know they can’t recapture the magic of the original or like always theyre afraid of pushing the norm so they haven’t bothered to try and make a faithful sequel so they pawned that job off on another studio
2s Mission structure takes you out of the action to soon and makes things extra tedious and multiple “mansions” and it honestly felt like they where trying to make an original game and they just slapped the Luigis Mansion ip on plus the removal of the portrait ghosts and no equivalent drags it down further
3 while having good graphics is boring and has to meany gimmicks and I’ve never been able to finish the game plus it’s a Hotel not a mansion
If they ever decide to make a 4th game they need to return to what made the original game great
    1. ONE MANSION
    2. Portrait Ghosts or an equivalent with a dark backstory even if it’s just hinted like in the original
    3. Dark and creepy music like the original
    4. No gimmicks like Gooigi , Polterpup or that cat from 3
    5. Short and replay-able like the original
Also the 3DS remake shouldn’t of been a HD remake for the switch with the graphics of 3

I love Luigi's Mansion. My first GameCube game that came with my Silver GameCube. I love replaying and getting the Gold Portraits of the Ghosts and the whole atmosphere. I even hum and whistle the theme from the game it's so catchy!
I played LM2 and LM3... and I didn't like this. LM3 was closer to what I liked in 1, but to me LM1 is STILL the best Luigi's Mansion game. 2 was so disjointed and I hated how it made the Ghosts so... generic? For LM1 the normal ghosts weren't the most unique designed, but they had a charming simple design for them that fit. 2 changed them so much they seem boring which 3 continued.
OK, maybe that's a little mean they still sort of followed the same design theme. But, the original Ghosts from LM1 were gone and there were my favorites.
The Boss Ghosts in 2 were awful too and I can't remember what they look like anymore. LM3 had better Boss Ghosts, but I missed the Portrait Challenge.
One thing I love LM1 over 2 and 3 is how short it is. It's not this massive expansion world, but a small Mansion with 4 zones to explore and complete. 2 with the different Mansion felt so... boring and disconnected with each other. 3 had something cool with the Hotel rooms, but it was Hotel not a Mansion in a sense and it DRAGGED on too long.
Like after I got the Gardener Ghost I got so tired and drained at this point and wanted the game to be over.
So to me 1 > 3 > 2 is the order of LM games I like. And the Ranking System of 1 was amazing that you wanted to do your best. I had a guide and everything and I got high, but not perfect after a few more runs that I got the best rank and all Gold Portraits.
PS: Also, I love Wind Waker. It was such a great Zelda game and I love the cartoony style.
PSS: Also, very nice for Luigi to get a proper first game as him as the Protagonist. Many do not consider "Mario is Missing" as a good first outing for Luigi in a staring role.

Omg finally someone talks about how boolussus is one of if not the ABSOLUTE WORST BOSS IVE FACED IN MY ENTIRE GOD DAMN LIFE like you said before the first fight is simple but the second half makes me wanna pull my damn hair out and go bald from it seriously I love the hell outta luigi mansion and always will but this boss will always give me nightmares (and just from the intro cutscene alone as well) but lemme tell ya the second half is always the worst when you have ONE DAMN BOO ALIVE becuz for some damn reason the lil bastard just wants to keep running away every single tome I get close to em I swaer to god this boss takes pure luck to beat cuz its a 50/50 split on where this boss wanna give ya a hard time or it can be pretty easy but like I said its pure chance this happens. This damn fight took me hours to beat as a kid btw ALL MY HOMIES HATE BOOLUSSUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
