Great video as always. Thanks Robin for your time and effort. I am witnessing your channel growing real fast! Congrats and keep up the great work you are doing.
Nice reviews thank you. I recived my potensic atom a week ago and impressions from flight are great. My first drone and the best toy,I ever had. The price was 250$ at Christmas sale. And i also bought yaggi antenas to the controller. It extends the range to up to 3km and could fly farer but had to back due to battery deplition.
Nice review mate. I'm a total newbie when it comes to drones and I just bought the Potensic. It's perfectly fine for me - it flies well, image quality is good and it's relatively cheap compared to DJI - I'm very happy with it. I got it for £320 with the "fly more" package, for a beginner like myself I think it's a steal.
@@RobinDrones Yep, it's great. Having said that - I bought it from Potensic's ebay store as there was a £40 off deal at the time(it's £30 now). For anyone looking to buy this drone - please be aware that Potensic offers an extra 12 month warranty extension if you register the drone with them but it's only if bought directly from them or via Amazon - for whatever reason purchases from their ebay store or any 3rd party is not eligible for warranty extension.
Many thanks for your personal assessment! A good comparison of the two drones at eye level. I own the Atom myself and it's good enough for a start. I would like to see better photo quality and more functions (similar to DJI) in this area. If I expand the hobby further, I probably won't be able to avoid a used drone (DJI Mini 3 Pro). Thank you very much!
Great comparison test mate, it definitely doesn’t look like there is much to choose between the two, both great, I guess at the end of the day it just comes down to how much you want to pay but either way still get an amazing drone 👍
Great review. I got the Atom just based on price. Both are great beginner drones, which I am a beginner. Neither one is pro quality video. If you are going into business you need to spend more money for a better camera. I think Potensic will be adding features in the future with app and firmware updates. Overall I am pleased with the quality, stability and ease of flying the Atom. Thanks for an honest comparison., although I think you short changed the dji in a few categories.
Yes, hopefully, they will bring us some more updates soon. Dji could update the mini 2 se to allow us to have waypoints and tracking, but will they? No as they want us to spend more money 😒
So both have a good signal. I'd say that dji seems twice as strong. But both have a very good signal for vlos flying. No danger, as if you lose signal, they both will come on home if you use the default option of return to home. The other options are to hover or land 👍
Interesting comparison, thanks ! It seems "clones" have improved since the days of the Fimi. They were also solid drones but the picture quality and software were just lacking. Sure they had more features but they weren't very well executed, tracking lost you, quick shots didn't get you centered for instance, panoramas just didn't work and the connection broke quickly with trees/blockage. So in the end they were cheaper but not really good value for money. I sold my Fimi X8 SE and got a used MP1 Platinum ;-)
Yes, it's just as good as the DJi mini 2 se, in my opinion, and better value. Which is good for competition. I noticed that they lowered the price of the mini 2 se to match the Potensic ATOM! So it's good for us buyers
I have the Ruko GIM2 and was looking for another drone to fly while one charged or for a friend to use. My choice was between these two drones or another Ruko, the Veeniix. I ended up getting the Potensic Atom in the end. I haven’t received the drone yet but after watching your review and side by side comparisons I’m confident that I won’t be disappointed. While Ruko has superb customer service. I felt like I wanted something that was just a little higher quality. It never hurts to branch out a little
Yes both are good 👍 I will continue to use both of them. The Atom is a better buy as its very good value 👌 I'm sure you'll be happy with it, plus it's under 250g, so you have less restrictions than your Ruko.
@@RobinDrones yes I am excited to get It. I paid for expedited shipping but i’m not sure it was actually worth it because with the weekend it’s still going to be a normal type of delivery and take five days so I should’ve saved 20 bucks lol. I have been wrestling with the idea of getting into drones for a long time. mainly because I have always done RC cars and trucks so drones were pretty much a new concept for me. I knew that DGI was pretty much number one and while I could afford it I didn’t necessarily want to invest that much into something I wasn’t sure I would like. Now, my car is in trucks are sitting on a shelf and I’m buying more drones 😂. also heavily interested in building an FPV drone in the near future
Hey thanks for the great comparison. Your microphone audio kept going up and down at times and was having hard time hearing your voice, maybe because it was hanging loose on your shirt. Also, you might want keep your notepad on the table, no need to keep it under your desk like a chap cheating during an exam back in the primary school. The school is out, enjoy your drones. Cheers!
Yes, I've been struggling with the audio with the Dji mic. I had a gain of 6 plus, and I increased it while editing the video even more. There was a firmware update for the mic recently due to low audio levels, so hopefully, my audio will be better from now on. Glad you enjoyed the comparison 👍
A couple of points on the app, all that flight data, the when, where, how ect who has access to this, and can it be used against you in the case of a legal issue?, the atom app features can, while obviously not as polished as the dji be updated with features over time I'm thinking, so given dji has been polishing their systems for years potensic are new boys on the block, so maybe a better comparison here would be what was dji like at the same point in their past that would be the equivalent of the potensic offerings if you get my drift 😊
Yes I get your drift 😉 I'm very happy with it. I'm finding myself using it more than the mini 2 se due to it having more features. It's obviously not as good as a mini 4 Pro due to the larger sensor on the dji. However, it's a third of the price when you factor in getting 3 batteries and a case for it!
So you have to charge the battery while it's inside the drone by plugging in a USB c to the drone. This works fine. However, if the battery was to swell or catch fire(very slim chance), the drone would be destroyed. I would never trust any lipo battery 100% So I'd recommend getting the battery hub. And keep an eye on them while charging.
Great video - THANKS! I am a bit concerned about ONE thing after seeing this is a very good value: Security, both my own and my Country's. As with most folks, I check the how much and why of ALL Apps I download (even "FREE" Flashlight apps collect a bagfull of data out of your phone), and see that the user agreement (like DJI's) is allowed to collect a LOT under the banner of public safety and adherence to laws (Whose laws? Chinese?). Perhaps I am being overcautious, realizing there are millions of products that make us agree to this. Should we be cocerned at all - just your unofficial personal opinion?
Yes, I'm concerned, but that's the world we live in now, unfortunately. I'm sure most users say filming their local beach, etc. I won't be giving away strategic Army bases, etc.. One thing about the Dji app is that you have to download the apak file from their website! It's not allowed on Google playstore. That's a warning sign! If you're worried, you could download it on an old phone and remove the sim card and never connect it to WiFi and data 😀
@@RobinDronesYeah, it's too bad. Trajic in a way since they make awesome drones. Thinking about it, anybody can find out anything about anybody or any place these days anyway. Unfortunately, no, if you want follow me mode on a dji drone, you have to jump up to the mini 3 Pro or mini 4 pro, and they are twice the price of the Atom 🤔 👍
I had a major connectivity issue with DJI mini 2 - I didn’t trust it to fly it any farther than 50 feet so it was sent back. I heard the potensic atom has much better connectivity than the DJI.
I, too, have had really bad glitches with the mini 2 se a few flights when I got it. The picture colours went wild in a rainbow like smearing. But from using both, it seems like the signal is stronger from the dji, but both are good enough for vlos flying. It's incredible, really how far the signal will go for both drones.
Question for you Robin. You can only have one of the mini drones which you currently own. Potensic Atom or DJI Mini 2SE. Which one do you keep and why? 😮
Thank you so much! I've been watching (videos) and reading over and over because I didn't find where to do that and thought it wasn't there. Now I can do it! I thought that was really a big miss as the default setting is very abrupt and makes tilting the camera up or down not realistic to make nice videos...

Yes I agree that Dji quality is the best. As for the after sales, I've not had to use it for Potensic, but as for Dji I was missing 3 lenses from my recent Avata goggles refurbished purchase. I sent around 15 to 20 emails to dji about it, and they just kept sending me to different compartments. I got so fed up that I said I would purchase the missing lenses myself. They said no as they were missing from my order. 25 days later after loads more emails, they said we have them in stock and can ship them the next day however we don't supply individual lenses so you'll have to buy the whole set for €60 + €20 for shipping! 😳 I then complained, and they finally shipped them to me. The whole process took over a month! But they got there in the end!
Potensic help has a little of the typical Chinese don't listen to the problem but insist on the solution. Just. Be specific with them and they come around quickly.
I somewhat agree that dji is the best, but the Potensic is just as good as the mini 2 in my opinion and has features similar to the mini 4 Pro for a 3rd of the price. So for the price, it's a great alternative to dji for a beginner or just someone who can't afford the high cost of a dji.
I think the image quality is great for the price of the drone, but in low light its going to struggle due to the small sensor. Check out this video for the quality of the video (this is straight out of the camera i don't enhance any of the footage) th-cam.com/video/tMr9M59Dwqw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1c262GfmvYfy05S8&t=120 Also here is some footage on a really dull day ,it was my first flight with the Atom. And this was before the image enhancement update. th-cam.com/video/R6_uDTekB1o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=poaSizky94oXame9
@RobinDrones when you say it's great for the price , does it mean is worse than the dji , or is it very similar ? I don't know what drone I should get, I wanted a drone with good quality camera and I'm afraid that the potensic won't be good enough ? Thank you
@c0t0netes It's very similar to Dji's cheapest drone, the dji mini 2 se. If you want the best quality, it's all about the sensor size, really. Check out my video comparing drone sensor sizes. th-cam.com/video/pu06LArnDFc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dbR2hvJGp_wUvb_U So the best sub 250g drone is the Dji Mini 4 Pro, but it's £689 with just 1 battery. Add on another 2 batteries, then it's £800 + . Depends on how much you want to spend... 👍
@RobinDrones so, after looking for drones , I've seen a dji mini 2 se fly more combo refurbished by dji technicians for £310 , and the atom fly more for £315 brand new, wich one would you recomend? Thank you again
One big plus on the Atom is it does not have Geofencing like the DJI does and that is a Big plus because I do not like having to get permission to fly every time I want from some really bad app! That in itself puts the Atom above and beyond the worthless DJI.
Yes, it is good to have no geo restrictions. However, not long after buying the Atom Dji, have removed all geo restrictions, even major airports here in the UK! Where are you from?
I don't think they are as they look different 🤔. So apparently, everything Google based is banned in China, and potensic is a Chinese company. But Dji, I'm sure use Google maps. But I could be wrong about both 🤔
Great video mate, I'm glad your liking the Potensic, I think it's a brilliant drone (for the money) I keep thinking about doing a versus video against my mini4pro although bit of a pointless comparison but I'm sure some people may be interested I just hate seeing and hearing myself on camera lol
@@RobinDrones the mini 4 pro video is quite a fair bit better particularly in low light and harsh light but the Potensic is more fun to use I think it's because it's cheaper so don't have to molly coddle it as much as the DJI so less stressful to fly I did a strong wind test video for the atom on Monday it's uploaded but I wouldn't have dreamt of flying the mini 4 pro in those conditions
I don't believe the DJIs bigger low light capable sensor is an advantage in a sub 250 gram drone. Why? The reason being if you want to fly legal in the U.S when the sun goes down, I think you are going to need to attach a strobe to your drone. Now if you do this, you are probably no longer flying a sub 250 gram drone, it depends on the weight of the strobe you attach to it. If the combined weight is over 250 grams I believe you will need to register it with the FAA and also buy and attach a remote ID module to it! It really defeats the purpose of buying a sub 250 drone. I attached my strobe and it put my Atom over 250 grams. I don't fly at night very often anyway. If I do, it is most often with my Phantom. I have LED lights to go along with the strobe on my Phantom. I use the Phantom even though I have a Mavic Pro. Mavic Pro is not that great in low light.
@@RobinDronesI have a Ulani DR 01 and it weighs 14 grams. I doubt I will try another strobe just for this Atom. I don't night fly very often anyway., when I do, I have other larger drones that I prefer to fly at night. However, It is good to know that there is something that is light enough should someone choose to do so. Thanks!
OK so I found your comment rather strange? So in Australia we're not allowed to fly at night.. Ok so if want to fly it at night as I did to record new years eve fireworks.. I taped up the rear light and due to the drone being as quiet as it is then nobody could see the drone not even me.. The the tiny battery lights looked like tiny stars so if you wanted at night the sub drones nobody would know you were using them and there basically undetectable due to there size anyway.. Fly it at night nobody would ever know with lights of...
It's weird that you can't fly at night in Australia. Here in the UK, there are actually no rules to flying at night as long as you still have VLOS. But to have VLOS, you need a powerful strobe, so that's why we use them. 👍
"Service after sale (crash that is)" would have been a good topic. Dji, known commodity with Care Refresh. Potensic, kind of unknown. Have heard different stories about repair / return time.
Yes, it is certainly a hard job picking between all of the Drones! If you want/need the best sub 250g go with the mini 4 Pro. If you don't want to spend as much either of these are still really good drones!
Well you shouldn't give the atom a score at all compared to the 2 Se as I've barely needed to calibrate the mini 2... On the other hand the atom will do a death spin.. Except very often... Not so good as its happened to many times... It's eventually going to end the drone and the biggest put of is the atoms flight logs are inaccesable which is the biggest put of as it's impossible to prove a malfunction yet nobody has mentioned it yet.. And I suspect it's just your dji mini 2 Se that moves around as the mini 2 stays exactly we're you put it.. And if it was the mini 2 not Se then it's totally incomparable..
Like I said in the video, the scores I gave are my opinion. I've had no issues so far with the Atom. Have you contacted Potensic about your issues? You may have a faulty unit. Yes I agree about the flight logs it's annoying we can't access them...
Yes, but I'm finding myself using the Atom more than the mini 2 se due to the tracking features, and also, because it's a little cheaper, I would fly it in more challenging conditions ie stronger wind. So I'm less nervous about flying it 😃
Have Still Got My DJI Spark But Bought Potensic Atom Drone Because I Don't Want To Be Totally Ruled By DJI. Has Quickshots Active Track Great Little Drone. This Drone Might Have Been Designed By Ex DJI Employees.
@@RobinDrones the only problem is they have to compete with newer technology very old technology DJi is so far ahead and so much more of a polished experience with their drones, even they’re cheap drones
Yes, I agree. I'd say drone quality, in my opinion, after using/ watching TH-cam videos. 1. Dji 2. Autel (I've not owned one, though) 3. Potensic 4. Holystone (I've not owned one) But from the price point, Potensic wins 🏆

Potensic help has a little of the typical Chinese don't listen to the problem but insist on the solution. Just. Be specific with them and they come around quickly.
I feel like dji is the only brand I’d recommend anyone for a new drone / beginner
I somewhat agree that dji is the best, but the Potensic is just as good as the mini 2 in my opinion and has features similar to the mini 4 Pro for a 3rd of the price. So for the price, it's a great alternative to dji for a beginner or just someone who can't afford the high cost of a dji.
Hi, I've seen other reviews and some people say the image quality is poor on the potensic , and it's nowhere near 4k , us that true?
I think the image quality is great for the price of the drone, but in low light its going to struggle due to the small sensor.
Check out this video for the quality of the video (this is straight out of the camera i don't enhance any of the footage)

Also here is some footage on a really dull day ,it was my first flight with the Atom.
And this was before the image enhancement update.

So the best sub 250g drone is the Dji Mini 4 Pro, but it's £689 with just 1 battery. Add on another 2 batteries, then it's £800 + .
Depends on how much you want to spend... 👍
@@RobinDrones thank you :)
The majority of geofencing has been removed in the UK
Is the potensic a dji killer in terms of cost??
I believe so...
Won't the maps be Google Earth on both of them?
I don't think they are as they look different 🤔.
So apparently, everything Google based is banned in China, and potensic is a Chinese company.
But Dji, I'm sure use Google maps.
But I could be wrong about both 🤔
Great video mate, I'm glad your liking the Potensic, I think it's a brilliant drone (for the money)
I keep thinking about doing a versus video against my mini4pro although bit of a pointless comparison but I'm sure some people may be interested
I just hate seeing and hearing myself on camera lol
I would love to see the difference in quality video from you. How much better is the video quality from the mini 4 Pro vs the Atom in your opinion?
@@RobinDrones the mini 4 pro video is quite a fair bit better particularly in low light and harsh light but the Potensic is more fun to use
I think it's because it's cheaper so don't have to molly coddle it as much as the DJI so less stressful to fly
I did a strong wind test video for the atom on Monday it's uploaded but I wouldn't have dreamt of flying the mini 4 pro in those conditions
Yes, that's how I feel. The more the drone cost, the more nervous I'd be flying it.
Have you tried the vifly strobe light? It's around 6g, and I have weighed both the Atom and Dji Mini 2 se with it attached, and they are both 249g.
Yes, I should have said about that, I have care refresh for the dji, but I've never had to use it yet... Famous last words ha ha
I'm getting like 30 minutes out of my mini 2 se ?
Really, how? I've never seen anyone get even close to 30 mins!
i guess i just fly efficiantly. if you fly against strong winds it varies. but the max ive gotten was 30 minutes@@RobinDrones
Flight plan was recently added and transmission info :)
Really? It's not showing on mine yet. Where abouts in the world do you live?
So basically a wash. As you say - “It depends on the buyer. … buy both!”
😂
Buy both, and it's still cheaper than a mini 4 Pro 😉
I never owned a drone, damn it's a hard choice I can't make up my mind 😭
Yes, it is certainly a hard job picking between all of the Drones!
If you want/need the best sub 250g go with the mini 4 Pro. If you don't want to spend as much either of these are still really good drones!
@@RobinDrones I can't afford the mini 4 so it's one of both 😅
Have you chosen one yet?
@@RobinDrones yes I bought the mini 2 se because it's on sale for 299 but I'll save up and also buy the potencic for a backup drone
The mini 2 se is the better drone. Compare in practice and you will see.
Yes, but I'm finding myself using the Atom more than the mini 2 se due to the tracking features, and also, because it's a little cheaper, I would fly it in more challenging conditions ie stronger wind. So I'm less nervous about flying it 😃
Dji blows it out of the water. The other is a blatent copy.
Even if it is a copy the Atom is still a good drone with more features than the similar priced Dji so it's a good alternative 😉
Have Still Got My DJI Spark But Bought Potensic Atom Drone Because I Don't Want To Be Totally Ruled By DJI. Has Quickshots Active Track Great Little Drone. This Drone Might Have Been Designed By Ex DJI Employees.
More like copying Holystone
I can't wait to see the next drone potensic release. Its good that we have some proper competition for dji.
@@RobinDrones the only problem is they have to compete with newer technology very old technology DJi is so far ahead and so much more of a polished experience with their drones, even they’re cheap drones
@@michaeldanforth3059not even! Potensic atom is way better than HS (Holy Stone) in terms of camera, quick shots, zoom everything
Yes, I agree. I'd say drone quality, in my opinion, after using/ watching TH-cam videos.
1. Dji
2. Autel (I've not owned one, though)
3. Potensic
4. Holystone (I've not owned one)
But from the price point, Potensic wins 🏆
