@@bighands69 Perfectly straight probably makes it weaker to be honest. Wood is compressible and bendable. So, not perfectly straight = higher frictional forces = stronger tensile strength for the joint.
Great tip ! ! I will try that . Just remember that your drill holes, should be between 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch deeper than the length of your dowels. This small space is to allow for some glue at the end of your dowels.
I'm making a large picture frame and need to reinforce the corners. This is the fifth video I've watched and with my limited tool range, I'll use this method. Thanks for sharing!
I needed to see this video. I've been afraid to attempt drilling holes to attach 2x4's on either side of a dining table that's not wide enough for a metal base I have. watching this made it make more sense... Thank you 🤗
Excellent video - I want to make a cabinet from some spare wood & your video showed me how to connect them. All I need to do is find a dowel jig plus these dowel centering devices & I will be all set to go. By using spare wood I guess I will save about $100 in lumber cost.
I just bought a set of indexing plugs for marking the location of the opposite holes. They cost only a few bucks, and I don't have to predrill holes for nails. Just make sure to use them BEFORE putting the dowels in the first set of holes. I learned that the hard way. :P
Great. I only wish I had seen this video ten minutes earlier when I messed up a dowel joint despite using a dowel jig. Well, at least I'm now ready for .tomorrow. Thanks.
Same. Except its more like 10 weeks haha. Id have the job done by now and could have saved 18 quid on a useless jig. Who'd have thought that on the quest for a better joint than simply using nails - you'd have to use nails!
Finally a quick, concise, no bullshit video! thank you for this, needed to do exactly this for a project.
Wrap some tape around the end of the drill bit leaving half a length of the dowel exposed and you'll get the right depth every time. Awesome video btw
Great tip! Thanks
Thank you......easiest way I ever seen.....thank you No introduction of a million steps and tools......my goodness.......love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love it when the thing im looking for on TH-cam is there ♡♡♡
Wow, so simple yet I've been stumped on a simple way to save me from a trip to Home Depot. Thanks, man! This was extremely helpful
Man, if you can drill holes straight while holding the stock in one hand and the drill in the other, that's seriously impressive!
Wood Tools Workshop haha. Its not that hard. Give it a try. Also its only a shallow hole which makes it easier.
It is a myth that the holes have to be perfect for dowel joints or any joint for that matter.
I was thinking the same......those straight holes are the keys for decent dowel joints.
Use a press!!

I was trying to find a video without using doubles but this little tip is making me confident that I can do this. My thanks

I don't own big end cutters so I use smaller nails, put them in the drilled holes head side down. Great tutorial, thanks.
straight up and speedy - well done mate!
I love the way you do it. Thank you
Good video! Helpful without being overly long. Thanks!
Howdy, Brother! Great solution and much appreciate your time. Drive-On, Cowboy!! 🤠

Obviously the jig would be the better choice but this is absolutely genius and super helpful in a pinch. Thanks!!

Wow, thank you so much for this well-explained vid!
Awesome video. You don't have to spend a ton of money at it looks great. Thank you.
Thanks. Much better than the over elaborate methods out there. I was going to try a shortened pencil in the dowel hole but this is easier.
Or a bigger nail, filed to a point, reusable.
Super effort. An inspiring one for a novice too.
Good simple Job. Thanks for sharing. ;-)
