    I think these trickle-dischargers are really intended for after-flight use, to take the last little bit out of the pack for storage, not for discharging an unused full pack! I use a pair of car headlamp bulbs in series or parallel, as needed, for heavy(er) discharging.They pull about 25 watts out.

    The first xt30 charge connector looks like its installed upside down

      It sure is, thats not exactly a good statement for qc from HGLRC.

      Good spot! I've just had to check mine and thankfully it's in the correct orientation.
      Lee's must be the "Reviewers Curse" version :)

      I have had many HGLRC quality issues.

      I recently bought the HGLRC charge board and with the first battery I plugged in... Smoke! I opened up the back and found a sloppy solder job that had shorted the pos/neg. After separating the solder bridge, all's well. Quality control definitely is questionable.

    The parallel charger looks really nice

    We could do with a storage discharger that does so by outputting power to a USB socket - charge up your phone etc. from the remaining energy above storage voltage.
    Maybe include a USB plug with a resistor+heatsink for if you don't have any USB thing to charge.

    Here's a tip on a less wasteful way to discharge lipos. Many modern lipo chargers have a Power Supply mode. So what I do if I have a lot of unused packs, is use them as the power input to the charger, then connect the charger output to my work laptop, and set if off in power supply mode. As a precaution I have a battery alarm on the balance tap. I find this rips through my packs quickly, and it's not just throwing away the energy as heat.

    Awesome stuff, Lee! 😃
    I won the Thor Pro the other day from Gal Kramer, in a giveaway... It's already on the way! 😂
    Well... What I can say? If you don't participate in giveaways you're never going to win anything. So... It's worth the risk. 😊
    Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    I own the good Lumineer parallel board and the new JB parallel board. This seems to have many of the best features of both (both xt30 and xt60, fuses, top plug-in). It seems to be missing some features: with only a few ports and no board chaining port. So far, my Lumineer is my favorite. I would buy this over the JB board, as much as I wanted to love the JB board.

    I just put my quad into position hold and let it hover till the battery drops to storage voltage (well a little below as it recovers to roughly 3.8v after the battery rests) but I only take out 2 or 3 packs out to fly

    I prefer to discharge my batteries also using the balance connector so that every cell is at the correct storage voltage. You can see whether a pack has a bad cell before charge it again prior to the next flying day.

      Me too - I'm still looking for a heavyweight discharger that does that.. If you know of one - please let me know..

    • @conradtaggart9959
      @conradtaggart9959 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Painless360 Whats the difference between this and your usual way of discharging a battery via using it - it is never left balance discharged ! Plus the balancing bit would make it slow !!

    Judging by the price of the Thor, I wonder if it's intended to be left on your batteries when you aren't using them. Ex: you plug it in after flying and leave it on until you charge again. I don't know if it draws current when it is done discharging though.

    This looks a lot like a parallel charching board, but in fact it is a balance charger? So the lipo’s you plug in can have different voltages, and the individual cells dont have to have almost the same voltage?

    • @ThunderBoy0750
      @ThunderBoy0750 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, its a parallel charging board with some fuses to stop things blowing up if plugged in wrong. Basically a Lumenier ParaGuard or Joshua Bardwell Parallel Charging Board but with crap HGLRC quality control.
      Look at the first xt30 charge connector, its installed upside down. If you had that unit in particular, used it without paying attention and the fuses didn't work for whatever reason, you would probably have dead batteries and maybe a firework show

    Review on that high power discharger would be useful, or have I mnissed it ? Stay safe Lee :-)

      Use a resistance setting on a Multimeter to check its not blown... Best of luck

    Mmm I discharge my batteries on a resistive load which is cooled and a timer. ( 20 minutes give or take a few mins)
    If cells become unbalanced it's time to think about new batteries.
